Ok - I take back what I said earlier about Lean Abs being to easy. I did that one again yesterday, and I realized I did it the first time with all the 'easy' modifiers. This time I tried to follow the intermediate moves, and I found it pretty challenging. Although there's this one move where you're jumping (or maybe more like bouncing) while bringing your knee up sideways to meet your elbow, that I am just way to uncoordinated to do! Lol! I can't jump while doing it or it totally falls apart - I can jump OR I can bring my knees to my elbow, but not both! haha! I haven't hit my intermediate workouts yet. Cardio Sculpt is a 90-day program - but I was looking at the other workouts in the program that I haven't gotten to yet, and one of them requires a pull-up bar  I don't know what I'm gonna do about that one...

The tactical cardio day for Total Cardio has a pull up bar mentioned, but they give you an alternate of semi-bent over row with weights and it's only for the challenge exercise. I just used barbells and did that alternative. I did buy myself a 6 lb medicine ball as that's used as well.

When I saw that there was some pull ups in one of the FitStar routines, I looked into pull up bars. On Amazon, they are roughly 20-30 bucks and they wedge in a doorway. Supposedly some of them support up to 300 pounds but I just don't know about trusting it to stay attached to the door jamb without damaging anything. Thankfully, DB had that alternative with the dumbbells. I know it wasn't as tough as doing a normal pull up but yeah, that's a perplexing workout accessory. Usually I go without something for a while until it's obvious that I need to purchase it so that's my take on the pull up bar. My wife already had a 6 lb medicine ball so I was good to go there.

I hear ya Kristine about coordination! I get lost in some of these exercises that I've never seen before. The DB recover workout with all the different movements "frighten and confuse me" (to quote the Saturday Night Live Caveman Lawyer character). We will get it if we keep at it so let's do this!

For today's DB workout, it was the 5 challenges where you do as many pushups, situps, pullups/bent over rows, squats, and plank in one minute. It wasn't a tough workout since I opted for the easiest modifiers since it was my first time for this workout, but I was able to do 40 "girlie" pushups in one minute and 60 squats. I'm not that far along with my leg lifts and I can't do that many "real" pushups so I got a lot of work to do to get thru our challenge. Next time I do this, I'll go for the harder version. I also need to get some heavier dumbbells. The heaviest I have are 10 pounders which was pretty easy for me when I used them for the bent over rows.

Tomorrow is the 14 round heavyweight workout that Rudy conquered last week... so wish me luck!

Yesterday, I powered thru the 14 round gauntlet DB workout that Rudy described last week. It was a short but very sweaty workout and I felt real good afterwards. Today, my gluteus maximus is rather sore, which hasn't happened in quite some time, so that was one heck of a workout!

Well I tried Yoga but I was even more lost than the dancing workout! So I fired up a couple recovery ones... the 15 minute mobility one with Cody and then the lower body release foam roller. Between those two, I'm feeling so much better! I think I'll do some more foam rolling on my own before I turn in.

I've got 3 new DB workouts in my program this week :) Cardio Ball, Hydraulic Lower Body, and UpperBody RollerCoaster. They're bringing in steps and medicine balls, so lookout! These are considered 'Intermediate' workouts and are a little longer than the ones I've been doing. I'll post again when I've done them if you guys are interested in what they're like...

I've been doing Jillian Michaels' "Meltdown Yoga Level 1" once a week - it's really great. Try again Scott - you'll get it! ;)

Hmmmmm..... maybe I'll give some Jillian yoga a try, or maybe some other DB ones. Maybe the one I tried out was more of an advanced one. This morning, my feet at the base of my toes was extremely sore from the Yoga Squat. It's where you are kneeling and sitting back on your feet but your toes are curled under so that they are touching the mat. It took a few hours with lots of flexing before they stopped letting me know they were still angry from yesterday!

Cool! New workouts! I like it when that happens. Go Kristine go with those medicine balls!

I didn't feel like doing the dance workout where all it does is show that I cannot hang with those fly moves, so I went off program and ended up doing that Lean Abs workout Kristine was talking about. Some of it was pretty easy but the part that got me, was all the hold and pulse crunches and other mat work. The half hour flew by so that was good. That one guy in that workout is incredibly tall (or at least much taller than the two ladies) yet he was moving pretty good. I'm on the taller side but I can't move like that!

Yeah - of the Cardio Sculpt workouts I've done so far, I'd say Lean Abs is probably the easiest one - but I still feel a 'burn' when doing (most of) it. Today I did Cardio Ball and I loved it! I'm thinking you men would like it too - it incorporates a medicine ball as suggested by the title. You're basically doing squats, lunges, jacks and other jumps all while holding/moving the medicine ball. There are some soccer taps, football quick feet, basketball figure eights passing the ball between your legs while squatting, wood chop squats, twist lunges, and more. It's low impact strength, but it's definitely cardio. I took my pulse several times after intervals throughout the workout and I was averaging between 165-175 bpm which is cardio-burn level for my gender/age/weight/height. Surprisingly, I checked out a few 'heart rate calorie burn calculators' online, and when entering the information from this workout - or as close as I can estimate from taking my pulse several times since I don't have a heart rate monitor - the calculators closely agreed with the total calorie burn reported by DailyBurn! The calculators said I burned 490 gross/465 net calories while DB said 499. In any case, I really liked Cardio Ball - it was different and challenging for me - almost, dare I say, fun?!

I'm actually sore this morning! I haven't been sore in a while, so that Cardio Ball routine really appears to have made an impact.

Cool Debbie! I couldn't hang with even the more simplier dance workout in my program. Hopefully you'll like doing DB but if you don't like the dance ones, there are some great programs to go with. I saw on the other thread that you're leaving the BL program. I won't be renewing, as I think I've probably already mentioned. I check out the forumns over there from time to time and it's pretty dead, other than those team threads that I never really got into.

Kristine... that Cardio Ball workout sounds really cool! I have a small 6lb medicine ball that I have no idea how to work out with so I'll be trying that soon. I would also love to be able to work out with one of those big balance balls one of these days. Maybe there's a DB program that has that as a workout item. That's an interesting tidbit about your experience with determining your calorie burn! I am tempted to get a heart monitor to see how it works, especially with that Inferno HR workout program, not that I can actually do workouts.

On both Friday and today, I did a new (to me) Cardio Sclupt workout called Lower Body Hydraulics. Wow! It kicks my butt (no pun intended! Lol!)! It's a great workout and it's definitely a challenge for me. I make it the whole way through, but I often can't get as many reps as they do in the same amount of time and I follow the modifier quite often. Balance is the name of the game with many of the exercises in this workout. There are One Leg Dead Lifts, One Leg Burpees, remember Box Jumps from our BLBC days? - well there are Box HOPS in this one! I am not strong enough in my core, I think, to balance enough to cause intentional direction in my hopping in order to make the 'box', so I just hop in place during that one. One leg hip bridges, mountain climbers, one leg squats, elevated lunges (front leg on an aerobic step), elevated 'plie' squats and more! Many, if not most, of these are while holding a medicine ball, by the way. There are a quite few exercises that are done from the plank position - so even though it's called Lower Body Hydraulics, I still find it works my upper body (ie. shoulders and back) as well. It's a great workout!

Today was hip hop in the 90s. Well a lot of hopping. I tried some of the moves but at least I am moving.

Woohoo go Debbie go! Soon you'll be rocking the dance moves like it's second nature!

I will have to try that Lower Body Hydraulics Kristine sometime. One Leg Burpees??? Seriously? Whoa! I don't think I've done a box jump since the BLBC.

Actually, I changed my program over to Cardio Sculpt yesterday from Total Cardio and did the BHT (Butt, Hips, and Thighs) and it was a pretty mellow way to get back into the swing of things. It's amazing how if you don't do a particular exercise in a while (lunges this time), how harder it is than when you were doing it all the time!

Next up for me is Cardio Sculpt. From the preview, I may be doing some of the moves without the weights if it puts too much stress on my shoulder. This program looks like you need more stuff to work out with, like an actual step. One of these days, I'm going to supplement what I have. I just need to figure out what that would be where I would use it quite a bit going forward and that it doesn't take up a lot of room.
