Thinking about blowing keto for mexican tonight

I'm very torn about whether I want to just go for it, or make good choices keeping with under 40 g of carbs. I've been doing very well for a couple weeks now, and I really don't want to go through keto flu again.

I guess I don't know if I'm looking for advice or if I just need to decide what my ultimate goal is. I'm not dead set on keto, its mostly an experiment for me to see how my body reacts.

Does anyone know if I will feel really sick if I consume more carbs, will I undo all my hard work so far?

You'll probably gain water weight, but you won't undo any keto-adaptation. You won't feel sick unless you eat something really nasty, which I usually do when I go to Mexico. :)

You'll start making ketones again within a couple of days after going back on the diet. Eat a pickle if you feel the keto-flu coming on.

You likely won't have to go through adaptation all over again and/or it would be much milder this time. You probably will feel horrible eating all those carbs if you are adapted. I would be more concerned about this derailing you entirely. I know plenty of people who decided on one cheat meal or one cheat day, "just this once," who never got back to low carb and are right back where they started or worse.

Personally, there's really no food that is good enough for me to "cheat" with it. Every time I've gone for it, I've been disappointed in the food and then I feel miserable afterwards. It's just not worth it for me. But, some people need to learn this lesson on their own.

I've done a couple Mexican cheats. A local restaurant makes a killer salmon quesadilla that comes with a killer avocado salad. I get it if the family insists on eating there.

I won't cheat on pizza for the reason Goat gives above -- I fear it would be the cheat of no return....

We ended up ordering take out from one of our favorite Mexican places. It made it easier to avoid chips and salsa and no margarita. I got steak chicken and shrimp fajitas, I have to figure out how to log that now. No tortillas or rice, I did sneak two bites of beans though :)

I know I'm probably a little higher on carbs than I usually am because of the peppers and onions, but I'm ok with that.

In the past I would've eaten a whole basket of chips possibly two margaritas and enchiladas with beans and rice. I could've ordered my usual but mentally I just couldn't, I kept gravitating back to the items that I could cut the carbs out on.

    Thanks for listening

It sounds like you made a compromise that felt right, and I am glad you are happy with your choices! (And also that you got to have tasty Mexican! Yum!)

I had one of the best steaks I've ever had out at our local Mexican restaurant recently. Gave my son the rice and beans and didn't miss the chips as my son sat there and ate them. This woe has affected me in so many positive ways that just don't want to take a chance on feeling bad again. Besides, I've learned that I feel so much better after success than how I would feel by allowing myself to make poor choices.

We had tacos tonight. Well, the rest of the family had tacos. I had taco meat with lettuce, salsa, and guacamole. Pretty good! Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Yum, I really wanted to make tacos, but too tired after a long day so take out was easier. I had a bacon cheeseburger wrapped in a lettuce leaf last night and it was delicious, I want to try that with tacos too. You taste the flavors so much more without the bun.

You will get the results after the fact. In my case it was BAD BAD experience which was Good Good because it broke me from playing with carbs that seem poisonous in my case. :)

You did great!! When I make taco at home not, even though I am craving a corn tortilla, I make Divalicious low carb flatbread, and make them smaller *the recipe says 4 servings, I make 8 out of the same recipe(, just about taco size. they taste pretty good and I get to have "tacos"

One of my first "cheats" was at a Mexican place. I DID have a margarita (it was so good) but you can also ask for a skinny Margarita (if you live in the states, I can't get one here) which is fresh lime juice the cointreau or triple sec and tequila, cuts down some of the carbs from the sugary mix they often use. I limited myself to 10 chips, but I had some enchiladas, but over all, I didn't feel too bad. I DID feel i knocked me out of Keto, but it bounced back in after a couple of days. You don't need to be in ketosis to lose weight.

I am going there again on my birthday in June. I just try to plan my "bad" times and limit them to special occasions.

Last time I tried tortilla chips they tasted like sawdust and paste - and the sauce at most restaurants taste like vinegar now! I like Hertez brand (still tastes like veggies!) for my taco salads... And at Mexican, I get either a taco salad or fajitas (lose the tortillas, beans, and rice - though I eat as much beans as it takes to rescue the cheese there!), smothered in sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. BLISS. I'm not a huge onion fan, so I eat the peppers usually and might have an onion or two if the flavor is good...

And to me, that is right on plan, so not a cheat at all!! We make taco meat up to do taco salads - ALL THE TIME in my house. A 4 pound batch of meat lasts several meals, and I can do tacos, burritos, or salads for my guy! I've gotten to the point where adding avocado to the mix, I don't want lettuce...
