I'm Kristin, I am in Columbus OH and I was recently diagnosed hypothyroid. I started on 50mcg of Synthroid daily. I am also being tested for cyclical Cushing's. I truly feek that Cushing's is to blame for my other issues and I'm tired of treating the symptoms and not the cause. Anyhow I am very very new to this hypothyroid thing, so I was wondering, about how soon can I start to feel "better"? I really just want to get out of the exhaustion, brain fog, and depression. I can handle most everything else. TIA

-Kristin

It will probably depend on how much meds you ultimately need and whether you respond well to Synthroid. For me, I'm on the natural stuff and started slowly building at 16.25 mg per week. By the time I got up to 65, I started to notice certain symptoms getting better, but the vast majority didn't go away completely until I hit my current level of 146.25 -- which took 2 months to get to.

I agree with lindsey. The answer is probably individual. A thyroid which is not functioning well sets up issues in many of our internal systems which can include cortisol. Please when you have time and the energy take a look at the US thyroid support site. (there are others, Canada, UK and Australia, probably more) The site will help you understand thyroid function. You should be able to relate information to your own symptoms, there may be things you can do which may help. Brain fog and memory problems are a real pain. There are many of us who would love to have body systems which behave as they should and are working towards this, some have better help from their physicians, I hope you are one. The more you know the better able you are to be active in your health and work towards recovery rather than passive.

    All the best.

Best wishes. It will get better with the proper meds/dosages. Be proactive!! I know it's hard with the brain fog but that is the biggest thing you can do right now. Educate yourself as fuzzi mentioned and be proactive. Stay in touch here!

Thank you all very much. I haven't noticed any changes yet and it's been two weeks so... We'll see how it goes. I am hopeful.

Two weeks? It took me way longer than that to see any reduction in my symptoms. YMMV, but please be patient!
