Pain and not getting any sleep

I am hoping I can get some help here from you wonderful ladies. I have been doing 5X5 for about 2 months now. I have dealt with soreness and all but lately it has been joint pain and my legs feel restless when I am trying to sleep at night. I end up tossing and turning all night and waking up at crazy early times. This morning I woke up at 3 a.m. and can't back to sleep. I feel like I just can't get comfortable and the pain in my joints is what I feel the most. My arms will start to tingle if I lay on one side too long which is not the norm for me. I can usually sleep like a log. My husband says I don't stay still for too long and will often turn from one side and immediately turn again thrashing my legs around (and on him). I have taken advil but it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

How is your stretching? What about foam rolling? If you do both of those pretty consistently, I would say go visit a doctor. Sounds similar to some of the symptoms of restless leg syndrome.

Did you up your caffeine intake or start adding some supplements in your diet, by any chance? Even if it's first thing in the morning, it can have effects on your sleep cycle, for once thing.

Second, how's your vegetable/fruit intake? Have you started eating more grains/breads/processed carbs? Some foods will cause high inflammatory responses in certain people, so maybe it's got to do with somehting you eat (perhaps more than you did before because you justify it with lifting heavy).

Also, making sure you stay hydrated and don't drink *too much* water helps. A potassium/sodium/magnesium supplement might do you some good (heck drink some gatorade during/after your workouts to start? And maybe a little before bed). Perhaps try out ZMAs, even. If you're deficient in zinc or magnesium, sleep can be affected to a degree as well.

What xcalygrl linked to is also worth looking into, especially if adding in the electrolytes and addressing your diet doesn't change anything. Here's hoping you get this figured out quickly!

Warm Epsom salt soaks/bath help to relax and soothe soreness. The magnesium in the salts is absorbed by your body and helps in relaxation also. I like naproxen for inflammation. You didn't mention night sweats if you had I would say to see a doctor to have you tested for hyperthyroid because the night waking, restlessness and tingling can be symptoms of an overactive thyroid but do try these other remedies first! I'm hypothyroid but when I first started 5x5 I had your symptoms. It was weird. I saw my doc and changed to a different medication and it's fine now. Best wishes!!!

Thank you all very much for the advise. I had a full work up last year and there weren't any issues with my thyroid at that time. I could have them recheck to be sure though. I will keep looking for a solution and your suggestions will help. Luckily it's not every single night and seems to come in spurts of 3-4 nights at a time. Maybe that too will change. You all gave me lots to think about. Thanks!

You will need more than just the standard TSH test. See stopthethyroidmadenss.com.
