I count it all. My carbs are only from vegetables.0

I haven't been subtracting fiber, but then, I'm new at this, too.0
-
I find that if I'm not eating veggies, I count total carbs. If I'm eating high fiber veggies, I count net.0
-
I subtract the fiber number from the carb number.0
-
I don't 'cos I'm in the UK and I just use the Carbohydrates value which excludes Fibre. I can't see an argument for adding them together.0

Not in the UK, but that's large part of why I don't count fiber - the rest of the world doesn't. We do because of things that don't actually have nearly as much to do with nutrition as politics.0 -
In my head I deduct the fiber but really I go by total carbs -- as long as I'm somewhere under 50g total carbs I seem to be fine. I don't log my spices so the 10ish grams of fiber carbs I could deduct probably cancel out the spices I don't log.
My advice is to just pick a number (total or net) and see how you make out. You can always adjust your goal up or down from there depending on how you feel.0 -
I count them together, though if I go high on carbs and most of them were fiber I cut myself some slack.0
-
I do net carbs.0
-
net carbs (from atkins)0
-
If it goes in I count it.
I could get caught up in the calories it takes to process fiber or sugar alcohols or fiber, but I don't.
Maybe it covers for when I forget to add for that splash of olive oil when I cook?

Let me see if I remember this right: in the U.K. etc. Your carbohydrate number on a package is already "net"? It already has the fiber deducted?
Is that correct?0 -
Yes here it says 'carbohydrate: xxx g' and then 'of which sugars xxx g'. So I think the sugars is the fibre deducted number. I think.
Wow I didn't know about this. Does that mean I can eat more carbs than I thought I could?!0 -

I googled and found this:

"However, in the UK and EU, fibre is actually shown separately so you don’t deduct it (or anything!) from the Carbohydrate total. So, for an example, if a label says:
Carbohydrates – 5g
Of which sugars – 2g
Fibre – 1g
Then you’d count a total of 5g carbohydrates for this food."
Where do the other 2g of carbs go?0 -
I count net carbs. If you live in europe they are automatically deduced from the carb count. I use this script.
https://github.com/Surye/mfp-keto-userscript
It's adds a net carbs column to my MFP nutrition and deducts the fiber from the carbs(only on the computer, doesn't work in the app for tablet or phone). The only drawback is if I use a food that a european entersd, you sometimes get a red entry, which means the fiber and carbs don't add up. I just make a custom entry, add the fiber back in and let the script deduct it.

I've been counting net carbs (i.e. subtracting the fiber) as that has been working for me. If it stops working, I'll modify what I'm doing, but until then, I'm doing what works for me0

Not exactly. We measure carbohydrates and report them, the same for fibre. Separately.
US labels don't measure what they call "Total Carbohydrate", it's done by difference. So to be pedantic our labels don't report net carbs because net carbs are entirely a US construct of "Total carbohydrate" minus "Fiber".

The other THREE grams of Carbohydrate would be starch.
The Fibre is not part of Carbohydrates. No "of which".
Takes a while to get to the bottom of the differences.

I look at both, I put my fiber column next to my carb column, I'm not hard set on being below a certain amount though currently, well..... below 80 probably. But not doing keto currently so it's not as big a concern0

Ahh, okay, thanks. That's a good reminder!0 -
I count total carbs. .0

I count total
But I make decisions on net.
If it has lots of fiber I see it as a more healthy carb, less sugary.
So yes for decision to eat, no on calorie count for the day
And I have enjoyed having steady weight loss for months so it works for me.
I probably cheat in some other ways so it balances out?

This, exactly. I have just been counting total carbs, but i may be occasionally swayed on a food choice if the net carbs are a lot lower than the total, but not often. Like professionalhobbyist i feel like counting total carbs gives me a little more leeway incase of the odd miscalculation.

I usually delete fiber if I make the food. If it's processed I don't. I don't delete sugar alcohols either. But I try very hard to never eat processed food. My daily goal is 50 carbs total and 25 fiber (leaving me a goal of 25 net carbs a day). I usually hit it but I eventually want to get my fiber higher. Very few ppl get the RDA. I think it's 32g? I eat a lot of seeds to help, and make Flax Crax (my version of flax crackers). They have around five carbs each but four of those are fiber. Plus they are crunchy. I'm a huge crunchy fan.0

Can I ask how you were able to get your Net Carbs to display in your macro breakdown? I don't see that as an option.

She uses a script, I couldn't get it to work last night. The script is right above her screen shot.0

Boo. I have Internet Explorer and it says it no longer works.0

Fiber RDA does not apply the same way on low carb diet. That number is based on SAD diet. Fiber can actually cause constipation in low carb people. Fat takes the place of fiber in digestion as far as lubrication and smooth passage.0
