What if any activity trackers do you use? right now I'm using an up24 but I am considering changing and I am currently trying to figure out what my options are. Why did i join this group/want to be able to run a 5K? A couple of years ago I had to go through learning to walk again after a serious health issue. I was on a walker for a long while then I graduated from there and currently I am on a 17,000 steps a day walking plan. However I still can not RUN very far or much at all. This is a personal goal of mine, I don't expect to win any races or even do very many per year.

wow, 17,000 steps/day! that's amazing.
I've been using 2 apps on my phone.... the RunDouble app and the Mapmyrun app. there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
I like the mapmyrun app because it syncs to the calorie count on the MFP app and I like the route suggestions. The app is free but if you want the training plans, you have a upgrade to a monthly fee which I wasn't willing to do. That's where the RunDouble app comes in. It's a one-time fee for all the training plans (<$5) and it syncs with my music and prompts me when to run/walk
good luck!0 -

Thanks for the app suggestions, I was thinking more of activity tracker hardware like fitbit versus up versus nike. I will look into the apps though, any help is welcome is my motto when it comes to better ways to get stronger, healthier.0 -
OP, I think what JSC was meaning is that his hardware is his phone. I'm in the same boat. I use RunDouble for GPS tracking of my runs (even though I have graduated from C25K . . . I just use it on open runs) and I use the Samsung Health app to track my steps. So, you see, my hardware IS my phone.
I have ordered a Fitbit Surge that will arrive on Monday, and Iam excited. Honestly, though, it doesn't do much that my phone doesn't already do for me. But my wife uses a Fitbit Flex and loves it, and I really like the Fitbit software and want to make more use of it. I also use a Fitbit Aria Scale . . . Makes weigh-ins very easy.0 -
I have the fitbit charge and love it. Welcome to the group! You have already overcome huge challenges- C25K will definitely help you learn to be a runner. I haven't had to deal with anything compared to you, but have not run since high school, and gained over 50 lbs. a few years ago after a bad fall from a horse trashed my knee. I've been amazed at how the program works to develop not only the ability but also a desire to run. I've personally struggled with sticking with any exercise or weight loss program, but am about to start my last week of C25K and feel like a runner now!
Best of luck! Keep posting here- I have only recently found the group myself, but have found it to be a wonderful group of super supportive people.0 -
i have a fitbit charge too and also love it! i have learned that i'm much more active than i thought, and don't drink enough water. i also use endomondo on my phone to track my runs and walks.
17,000 steps a day?! wow!
