Day one of OMAD. I thought I'd suffer throughout my work day as I have a terribly boring desk job but it really wasn't that bad. Now I'm home and am eating as I type and I have a terrrrrrrrrrrible headache. Is that normal? I thought I'd have a headache while I was hungry not in the middle of eating.

Two hour update lol: it took me over an hour to eat, hell, I haven't even finished my juice I'm so stuffed. Headache subsided as I ate more but like I said t took me over an hour so I suffered through that headache for that long. I'm a habitual scale stepper and I was the exact same weight this evening as I was this morning. Usually I weigh about 4 pounds more at the end of the day and lose it back overnight. Will post tomorrow if I happen to lose in one day...not expecting miracles overnight...just wanna kinda monitor what works for me and what doesn't, especially since I ate more carbs today than when I tried the lchf lifestyle.0

When starting out, headaches are totally normal. They'll probably be around until day 5, as will occasional dizziness, cramps, and "the runs." But all of this depends on the individual.
Be weary of scale-stepping and of expecting results every day. You will keep losing, rest assured, but a week may occasionally pass without a loss. At first, you will jettison all of your water-weight and then the losses will step down a bit. But you will probably lose faster on OMAD than if you did any other plan (in fact, I'd bet you so). I was 2.5 to 3.5-lb losses consistently. This, again, depends on the individual.0 -

I know I need to stay off the scale!!! It's a terrible habit. I also realize weight isn't linear so I will try not to be discouraged if it goes up as long as I don't continue to lose and regain the same amount of weight which is what was happening before. Outside of losing weight I love the extra ten minutes of sleep I get now that I don't have to wake up and cook breakfast and I don't take a lunch at work so I'm able to leave an hour earlier. Wins for me!0 -
So I'm just gonna use this as my personal journal and talk to myself lol. Today was hell. I was hungry all freaking day but I made it. Didn't even eat the apple I took with me to work however I did eat that apple, string cheese and guac while waiting for my chicken thighs to cook....I couldn't help it so my food was eaten within two hours today as opposed to the one. Hopefully it won't affect me too much. A friend of mine said she would consider being my buddy on this journey after she does some research and another friend of mine was on the warrior diet last year and decided to jump back on it today when I told her what I was doing. No headaches today and no going to the bathroom a million times either (tmi I know but yesterday I lived in there0

Sounds like you are doing great, but just like with eating out of bags and containers being a no-no, no starting eating until everything is ready and right in front of you. Make it a no-flex rule to not eat until ALL of your food is prepared and right smack-dab there...salt, pepper, napkins...everything. It's a good rule to have for your less devoted days, believe me!
And there is no TMI here--if not here, where can these sorts of things be shared? Body adjustments to a new eating routine are taxing, and it's only natural to see reactions from the change.0 -
Uggggggghhhh lol. Okay. I think I'm going to have to cook my food a day ahead then because I'm ready to eat as soon as I walk in the door! Having to prep my meal, then have it cook after not eating for 24 hours is tough!!!!!! But I will try. I'm in it for the long run0

It will get easier. If it's hard, then you're making the necessary sacrifice, which means you're going to dash right through that finish line.0

I don't know if I'm catching a cold because I live in the desert and our swamp cooler sucks so I have a fan blowing on me all night or if my body is readjusting to the way I'm eating??? But it sucks. I also don't know if me feeling light headed and kinda fuzzy earlier today was because of the cold or the fasting.
From 10-2 I felt like the world was going to end but I also forgot my tea today. 40 more minutes here at work and then I'm going home to have a delicious meal. Really proud of myself for not snacking at all during the day. I usually have apples and cheesesticks on standby just in case but today I left it at home. Today would have been the day I caved in though lol so I'm glad I left them.
Oh and I know I'm not supposed to get on the scale everyday but yea....I did...down .4. Figure once I get to day 7 I will post (and weigh myself) weekly so you're not getting pinged over nothing.0 -
You may be getting sick, but that would be unrelated to OMAD. On the other hand, re-adjustment DOES involve light-headedness and fuzzy, foggy thinking. Your body has not accepted this yet. Totally to be expected (in fact, it means you are actually taking the plunge, as opposed to lots of people who just moderately dip their proverbial toe in the water). Sometimes feelings of faux sickness can just be your body protesting. Through day-4 is going to be tough--I'm not trying to sugarcoat that. :-|
You really never get sick on OMAD. And what illnesses you get are light and flee in less than a day's time. I went home from work early maybe one day in all of 2014 if memory serves. And I was well from a flu-like cold by 2 am that night. I have found it to be one of a number of OMADian perks.

Starting OMAD today!! Like most, been a yo-yo dieter most of my adult life. I've been interested in Intermittent Fasting for some time and am excited about the things I've been reading here and other places around the interwebs. fwiw - I've been eating zero carb for a couple months and although I FEEL FANTASTIC: tons of energy, sleeping like a rock, no acid reflux, etc, I've had no appreciable weight loss. A fellow ZCer (zero carb) suggested I try IF. I learned a lot from Bob at http://www.buttermakesyourpantsfalloff.com/ He is a huge proponent of this woe.0

Hey there,
I had next to no weight loss on low-carb, but I was miserable most of the time. I'd advise against combining low-carb with IF, but it is your call.

Shay: Yes, that's my plan. I just do not do well with carbs in my diet. I'm pretty insulin resistant and feel so good eating this way. If you're interested I'd recommend the website I referred to above. He's not zero carb, but very low carb and high fat, and along with IF has lost over 100 lbs0 -
So yesterday was day 4: no unusual feels aside from being hungry around 1....actually didn't eat dinner until much later last night too. Experimenting on what I can and cannot eat while losing weight on IF and look at God! I can eat carbs again!!!!!!! When I went the lchf route I couldn't even look at a French fry without gaining weight! I think the benefit of having gone lchf route is that i don't need a lot to begin with, it's just nice to be able to eat them while losing. My meals have been much carbbier due to going out but I've still been going down. I've always struggled with going out to eat and making great decisions. At home I cook perfectly but if you take me to a restaurant, I want what I want lol. My trick at the restaurants for IF has been to eat my veggies first, then the protein and then the carbs. By the time I got to my rice at the Japanese restaurant I was feeling full and ate about 1/3 of the bowl. Today is day 5 but it's the weekend. My family knows i have a eating schedule but I think it'll be hard seeing them eat lunch. Any who, great weekend to the two ppl that read this lol!!!0

Coming up on 23 hrs of day one. I feel awesome! Still not feeling super hungry. At 2 yesterday I ate a 1lb burger w 2 eggs. This morning I had 3 cups of coffee, 2 black one w hwc. Plus lots of water, herbal tea throughout Heading to a friends place for cookout; doubt I'll be low carb today ... Looking forward to seeing how that affects my hunger this time tomorrow0

Broke my fast earlier today (230). I was starving. I also worked out for the first time today in my fasted state. I think that contributed toy hunger. It's even harder to meet my calorie goals in one meal after working out.
On another note, no stupid side effects!0 -
I started OMAD today. I was very hungry and for some reason I couldn't keep my eyes opened and wanted to lay my head on the desk and go to sleep. It lasted for several hours. Drank water and iced tea. Also, had some watermelon. Tomorrow I'm trying to go all day without fruit. I'm hoping to get a cell phone soon so I can take pictures and post the food I eat .

Well expect to be pretty hungry as you are just starting out but know it'll get better. I've noticed that if I eat crap the day before I'm hungrier the next day but if I eat sensibly I'm good. Everyone's different though.0 -
Thanks for your input. I have been on the program before but stopped. I got past the hunger stage and it wasn't bad at all. In fact, I had more energy, slept better, and seemed to concentrate easier. Good luck to you too. I accepted your friend request.0

Today I drank a coke in the afternoon. I know that probably isn't a great idea but I had a headache and that nipped it in the bud. Eating great tonight!
Fish, baked potato with butter and cheese, green beans with onions and tri colored peppers, bread, apple butter, and an apple.0 -
Mkay so this week has been hard for me. Like extremely hard! Typically I don't turn into a raging *kitten* until about 4 but this week it's been 2 so I've been eating an apple and cheese stick around that time to hold me over until I get home. I'm trying my best to stick to OMAD but I can't be on *kitten* mode with 2 more hours of work left and then a little one to pick up right after before eating. Cheer camp also started this week and that has me pushing back my meal time so I can take my daughter. Today I have the apple and cheese stick on standby but I'm gonna try to hold off as long as possible (it's currently 1 here in Cali).
Um what else, I know you don't agree with weighing yourself often but I'm addicted. Can't help it. My weight has been so stupid lately. I got down to 208 my first week on OMAD and then it was up to 214 just two days ago but today I get on the scale and it's 209. I ate nothing but carbs yesterday so I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out what I can eat and what I can't while on the OMAD journey. Some days I feel like maintaining a low carb diet while on this journey is beneficial then days like yesterday happen where I eat pizza and lose three pounds (I was 212 the day before). The only thing keeping me sane is the happyscale app which kinda gives you an average based on the numbers you plug in daily and it helps me set realistic goals.
Food lasts longer in the house now that I'm not taking lunch, I love not having to meal prep anymore and I love really large meals lol. One thing that bothers me is that my husband says this is creating bad habits. He uses the word binge often but I honestly don't eat more than I did before (most days). I have to show him my food diary at least once a week so he gets it. I'm simply eating everything I would have eaten throughout the day in one sitting. It's actually hard some days to eat the amount of calories I need for the day, especially if it's healthier food since the protein tends to make me fuller faster.
Taking the little one to Disneyland this weekend for her birthday - OMAD is going to be a huge struggle for me as I love amusement park crap (dippin dots, funnel cake etc.).0 -
You lost weight! That's great. You should only weigh once a week because it can drive you nuts. I use to weigh every day and then my scale broke and I didn't replace it. Now I go by how my clothes fit. The next time I go to the doctor I will get weighed and I'll see my results in pounds. You can use a scale, a measuring tape, clothing or a belt as a measuring tool as well.
I'm don't know for sure, but your body can hold fluid because you ate salt and didn't drink enough fluid or you could be adjusting to your new way of eating. Joe will know more about this than me.
If you need something to eat before your meal, have a piece of fruit... As your stomach shrinks your cravings should go away some. Read the article Joe posted about that military guy and the positive and healthy things he has to say about OMAD. Have your husband read it too. You can do it, just hang in there!0 -

What in the world are you talking about? Again, you want to think less about food, not more. If you are hungry on a given day for eggs and sausage or whatnot, then go for it. But don't do it because it's low carb. The big benefit of OMAD is that not only is it simple to arrange, but you can have whatever you want. I chose this plan because it means I can have noodles and pizza for my meal if I so choose. I'm going to do an update in my feed on this topic. It seems that many are messaging me with getting mentally lost in bits and pieces of different eating plans, when in fact doing so only brings you closer to failure. You are not taking advantage of OMAD as you should be (see last response paragraph).

Creating "bad habits"? Hah! The uninitiated will say anything! Any habit that brings control to a person by regulating the amount of food they consume is a good habit! But you shouldn't be debating OMAD. Don't feel the need to justify it to anyone. When I was still 300+ lbs, my uncle lost $200 thinking I'd jump ship and eventually go back to my old eating ways. But I never debated it with him. I just said: "You'll be around and you'll see when I drop clothes sizes." And that's what happened.
But the term "binge" doesn't fit anyway since that implies uncontrolled eating. Have fun at Disneyland. But as stated above, you aren't taking full advantage of OMAD because OMAD means you are making a deal with your body that you will be able to eat what you want. Your meal needs to meet you halfway every day. Your taste buds and mind get what they want and "fat sanitation services" must come and pick up the "fat trash" on your body. And in return, you have to give up some mental satisfaction. It's tough, but it's a win-win.
I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't modify my OMAD plan to fit your needs. And a cheese stick or apple won't put you over the calorie marker, I don't think (others have lost weight adding in a small 100-cal snack in the day). I'm saying you shouldn't be uneasy with the adjustment. You went in being warned of the sacrifice and you should appreciate the return on the difficulty, knowing that you "ordered" something--it's just a matter of time before "delivery." You've got to keep things in perspective and make peace with the process now. When you accept something, you learn to live with it--in this case, hunger. It won't be forever. You have to remind yourself of that.0 -
I chose that time of the day to eat with my family. Having dinner with them is important to me.
It doesn't surprise me that my weight fluctuates only by how much. I've already stated more than once that I enjoy getting on the scale daily. I also stated that the app I have puts things in perspective for me so that I don't go insane.
I can't speak for other people but I can say I'm coming from a low carb eating plan (about 6 months) and I'm only three weeks into OMAD. So, it's still hard for me to wrap my mind around eating pizza and beer and losing three pounds. I don't know why that seemed to irritate you so much when we're all trying to break habits no matter what eating plan we choose to take on. My downfall is the scale and the continuous thought that if I eat fries I'm going to gain another 50 pounds. I've spent the last two years worrying about what I eat and how much I weigh so changing that in three weeks just isn't gonna happen. I'm working on it by experimenting.
As far as my husband, he calls this bingeing which I'm definitely not doing then notices how much smaller my waist is getting. When I broke down and had that Apple the other day my coworker acted as though she had won a bet herself as she also thinks this way of eating is strange. It pissed me off that she was so satisfied by what she thinks is me quitting when really it was just a minor setback. Like I said, this week for some reason has felt like day one all over again but I have no plans to change it.0 -
That's cool. Oh, please don't read that as me being irritated in the least. I was far, far from it. But I don't want you to come unglued.
As far as everyone else is concerned, you are just someone else doing a mere fad diet, and so they expect failure (I guess that makes sense, no?) Try never to say why you aren't eating. "I'm good on that," or "I've taken care of that" and bowing out tend to be better ways of not discussing it verses: "Oh, I'm doing one meal a day..." People have written me in tears on the grief they get from others. lol Me, I'm a very direct communicator, so I can deal with these things, but the vast majority of people cannot, I've learned.
Oh, and I meant to add that is cool about that app. I hadn't heard of it.0 -
I'm doing the one meal a day eating but only Sunday thru Thursday. On Friday and Saturday I keep under calories. This has worked for me because I don't feel deprived. I also don't eat set time. It depends on what's going on that day. I've been losing about 2 lbs weekly. And I run 3x a week. I'm a mother of 7 and am very busy and this fits in my schedule. Good luck to all. :-)0
