I blew my carb count big time but not counting it as a failure (long)

In the past, I had a habit of binging on carbs after "transgressed." I overate my carb quota Thursday, Friday and will again tonight. I just started seeing a wonderful man and he invited me to a very nice Italian restaurant. I had just come off my 48 hour fast and had a pasta dish with cola as I used to really enjoy. First off, the cola was awful. I know I will not ever want that again. The pasta was yummy, but I only ate half. I could have had a salad or something else but most of the salads except the garden salad were also full of carbs and foods that I am sensitive too. I am sensitive to grains (pasta, bread), dairy (cheese), nightshades (tomatoes), and Italian spices. I thought I had blown in big time. The next days I was very full and swollen but I had only gained less that a pound.
Last night, I ate the leftovers and prepared a meal for tonight for the man I am dating. His favorite is spaghetti and meatballs. I made him homemade manicotti with crepe batter, etc loaded with really good cheese. I sampled a little as I was cooking. I had found some cookies I had stashed and ate them later. Finished it off with some candy just before bed. This morning I was only up an additional pound but I am very swollen and uncomfortable.
I think eating carbs made me want more but I did not binge as I used to. I ate the cookies (not very good) and candy because they were there and I wanted something sweet, but I did not crave it. I used to gain 8-10 lbs in a day after eating like that but I am not using this piddly weight gain as an excuse to continue eating these types of foods. Perhaps it was the 2-day fast or that I eat very low carb and very low calorie most days. All it did was cement for me that keto avoiding the foods I am sensitive to is really the best for me.
Tonight, I am going to eat the meal I prepared (because I know it is very tasty) but then tomorrow it is back to the way of eating proven best for me. I may throw in an extra fast to rid the swelling.
Future meals will be salads and fatty meats!!
Thanks for all the support. The members of MFP have helped me tremendously.

Good for you! I also find that I no longer crave or binge on carbs, even after a minor digression, but I don't want to push my luck. For example, I will not eat pizza under any circumstances.
Also, fasting and exercise will both help with minor digressions like that.First off, the cola was awful. I know I will not ever want that again.
When I was still in high school, I went on a trip to Europe with my family. At the time, they had a Coke clone called Euro Cola (I don't think it still exists). I was a big Coke/Pepsi fan before then, but Euro Cola was so bad, I haven't had any interest in any cola since then. 30+ years cola-free thanks to that nasty stuff!0 -
That must be hard, dating a new person and not wanting to be conceived as having a weird diet. I think a "pass" is in order. You certainly have a conscience and a will power to get it right.
Maybe you can cook him a Keto meal, but don't tell him its part of your "weird" diet. I would suggest BBQ ribs or a fatty steak and asparagus (or some other great steak dinner and low carb veggies...be sure to put a lot of butter on the veggies....)
I hope this helps,

That's exactly what threw me out of low carb a few years ago. Met a guy and didn't think to eat how I normally eat, but instead ate other stuff as treats. Dated him for 2.5 years and gained ~90 lbs from adding carbs/sugars back in. Took me until last year to wrap my brains around that revelation. But now I don't even see carbs and sugars as treats, but instead pretty looking poisons.
Keep strong and you're going to have to stick to what makes you feel good. Good luck!

I love this ^. I feel exactly the same. Treats to me are things that taste good and dont make me fat, hungry & unhealthy (bring on the Bacon!)

Thanks all. This group is great! I'm Italian and wanted to impress him with food I know I make very well. I told him about my car accident last year and that I had most of my small intestines removed and that I have to eat carefully - all true. He hopefully won't think I am too weird when he sees me eat salad, meat, and fat in the future for every meal lol.
The date went very well!!! I meant to give him the leftovers THIS MORNING but he would not take them (sorry, TMI but I'm old enough). My mom and I had some tonight and I froze the rest to give to my son when I see him next.
Definitely fasting for the next two days at least until I am no longer a blob in my recliner (swollen). I am not going to weigh until I feel better too.
My food treat is schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) or gribenes (fried chicken skin, like cracklins)0 -
I will always feel bad for my wife. When we started dating, I was a carb-aholic like few have ever seen. I wooed her with homemade bagels, breads, chicken potpie, and so on. I was cooking rice-based dishes for her. And, I was good at making these things. She'd ask for a certain kind of bagels, and I would make them for her.
Then I started trying to lose weight. That meant I baked less, even when I was just trying calorie counting. Eventually, I went primal and that meant the end of all the baking and most of the rice. Then I found low-carb. And, here we are. I just eat meat. Our relationship started with me hooking her with my baking skills, but I never bake anymore. It was a classic bait and switch. Although, I swear it wasn't intentional.0 -

LOL. I really had to smile at this because that is how it began in our house too. I still make bagels and bread, and lots of noodles and rice dishes for my dear hubby of 40 years but I never, ever, eat them. At first he felt a little lonely about eating them by himself, but he has seen how much better I feel without them, so is quite supportive now. He recently retired, so is even venturing into bread making himself.
