Fiber supplements

Does anyone use fiber supplements? I was really trying to get a lot of fiber earlier on, but I got sick of avocado and chia seeds. Now I don't think I get near enough fiber. Does anyone use supplements, like psyllium husks or .... I don't even know what. Any advice? I eat a fair amount of veg, but still, it's not enough.

Fiber supplements only increased my bloating and caused constipation where there was none. Are you actually constipated now? How do you know you're not getting enough fiber?
The right amount is likely different for everyone. It's probably also a lot lower than you've been led to believe, especially when you've removed all the high carb processed foods from your diet.0 -
I don't add fiber at all. I have no gallbladder and a complication that makes constipation really high risk, so I'm quite happy not to have that problem as long as I get my fats in. If you need help to move things along, I recommend adding a teaspoon or so of coconut oil to your morning coffee!
EDITED TO ADD: If you're not going as often, that's totally normal. You're eating more calorie dense foods that take longer to process. (From anecdotal evidence, it seems most solid waste disposal rates are cut in half - so if you went once a day before, might be once every other day now, or something.) If you're uncomfortable and such, that is only when it becomes an issue.0 -
I take 3 psyllium capsules each night. I wasn't really having problems with constipation or loose bowels but this just feels much better. I haven't experienced bloating, gas or discomfort so this works well for me.0

I am bloated. and my stomach feels bloated. I have no gall bladder either. I just feel in my body that stuffy feeling and that not enough is coming out, so wondered if anyone has had experience with it. I am getting less than 20g a day, sometimes less than 10.... I was aiming for t least 20. But I find it difficult unless I pile up the avocados and chia seeds. I am avocado weary...0

Without knowing what else you're eating, it's hard telling. I'm more inclined to think that the bloating is actually being caused by the fiber, not fixed by it (largely because of how fiber is processed by the body).0 -

If you're wanting an "emergency evacuation" type situation to remedy the immediate issue before proceeding with elimination ideas, coffee, coconut oil, and/or vinegar (pickles or pickle juice work here too) can trigger the bowel dumping for non-gallbladder folks, but coffee is called "poor man's exlax" to just move things along. Too much CO or V can just cause a 4 hour bathroom bout.0 -

You know, it was so interesting to me that when I tried zero carb last month, my bowels were more regular than ever before. Very odd, since I ate no fibre.
The moment I up my carb intake, I get less regular. The carbs in foods like nuts or cheese will always constipate me, but I also noted that the carbs in supposedly healthy foods like vegetables and berries, which contain fibre, will make me much less regular as well.
However, even at my normal approx 15-20 g max total carb daily amount, if I don't include enough fat, such as coconut oil and butter in my coffee in the am and magnesium at bedtime, I may run into uncomfortable bathroom times. So while eating some fibre I find I have to counteract the negative effect.
So therefore, I have come to the conclusion that added fibre can cause the opposite reaction than is desired. I personally don't think it's necessary. I am learning to throw out any lingering myths that conventional wisdom has drilled into our heads about what is healthy, and am now listening to my body. ( After the garden veggies are done, I'll likely head back in the ZC direction.)0
