I finally watched this 2013 video presentation from Peter Attia:

Blog post here:

AFAIK, the effects he documents here have never been documented elsewhere. If you've ever tried to get a handle on the meaning of "keto-adapted" or "fat-adapted," this stuff is golden.

What he directly covers here is great, but he doesn't even highlight some of the most interesting data -- his RMR is higher than expected (probably due to the cost of making ketones), and his RQ is lower than expected (probably due to high skeletal muscle utilization of ketones, which AFAIK, has never been documented). Also, he hints at lower O2 requirements during exercise, which to me is one of the coolest features.

I love his blog. I'm slowly working through it all. I have to do it when it's not late - he doesn't dumb much down for his readers.

It's a long presentation. I took a few screenshots of slides for those with ADD. :)

His activity in the metabolic chamber:

Glucose and ketone levels vs time:

Note the mega level of ketones after exercise. About 5 mM. AFAIK, this exercise effect has not been previously documented. He attributes the high level to exercise at 60% VO2max -- the sweet spot for aerobic burning of fat.

And the money shot, RQ and EE:

Generally amazingly low RQ indicating a lot of pure fat burning, but with periods dropping below the RQ for fat, indicating a high degree of ketone utilization.
