Hello,

I am going on a singing tour to Spain and Portugal in May. I am wondering if anyone has ideas about how to eat in a foreign country.

Take a bag or two of protein powder with you. If nothing else, you can have a shake. I deploy for disasters all over and I keep 10lbs of my luggage weight for protein powder. It works great and I know I always have something available no matter where I am.

For actually eating, protein first, chew well, and keep a log of what you ate and where. If you make it back to that restaurant, you'll know what worked for you.

Really, you have two issues: traveling with a group and perhaps not knowing Spanish (I don't want to presume). Spanish foods can be wonderful and healthily and you should be able to find stuff you like if you can identify it on the menu. However, if the tour folks have arranged your meals, you need to work with them, and let them know your dietary restrictions. I also would bring individual size protein shake powder and a few shaker bottles, so that you can get your lean protein in every day. Then, just look for the veggies.

Also, Spain is the home of Tapas, which are just the right size for us.

eating overseas isn't that much different than eating out in a different city, except that many of the fodds are much better. you just have to remember your portion sizes and try to eat your protein first. every country I've eaten in around the world always has a fish or lean meat dish that was excellent.

European breakfasts are typically buffet with yogurt and fruits available along with worse choices. If you are choosy you can find good choices.

My mom is a rny patient and just did 3 weeks in rural Africa. She brought unflavored protein powder and used it in soups, oatmeal, etc. peanut butter, nuts, and beans were readily available. When in cities she could get beef, lamb, and seafood on the coast
