I read it - after Starting Strength - and followed one of the templates (or maybe the template?) when I first started lifting. I found it very helpful. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've read it, so I don't exactly remember it very well.
FTR, the template I followed was, instead of 2 alternating workouts: squat/bench/dead with squat/ohp/clean, it was squat/bench or ohp (you simply alternated upper body presses for each workout)/pull-up, squat/bench or ohp/dead, squat/bench or ohp/chin-up for each week. If I were to go back and do it again, I'd swap out either the pull-ups or chin-ups with a Pendlay row - so there'd be one deadlift, one lat/upper-back, and one mid-back per week. As a beginner, I wasn't going to mess with the program.0
