Mod Reminder to Review Group Guidelines

I've had to put my mod-hat on twice in 2 days. Please review our Group Expectations.

If you require further elaboration, you'll notice on the link that we've answered and clarified the finer points for you.
Thanks for following the guidelines so we can keep our group here on MFP.
And also please keep this bumped for me for a few days while I'm gone. Dragonwolf and Goat will be around, though.

Due to recent drama in the main forums regarding our group, our group has been set to private and it looks like it will remain that way for the time being. Because of these issues, we have to make clear the group's policy on trolling and/or negative posts.
If you encounter such behavior in the main forums or in PMs we ask that you please do not engage, but report the posts using MFP's reporting system (not the flags, but the actual report that requires you to qualify it and allows you to include notes) and alert one of the mods via PM with a link and/or screen-shot. If you encounter it here, please alert one of the Leaders.
Please note that, in addition to not engaging in arguments and negative behavior in the main forums, the following things can't be tolerated here in our group.
- Posts talking about other members and how they irritate you or wishing harm upon them.
- Insulting nicknames (e.g. "The Litterbox" and "Shirtless Mafia").
- Posts complaining about the general forums.
- Any links to discussions in the main forums.
- Posts complaining or insulting the moderation decisions in the main area or any of the moderators.
- Reposting any private messages or personal discussions in the group.
While we understand that the above usually represents angry venting and little more, it has been brought to our attention that it's not to be allowed here. In addition, please take a brief moment to review the Community Guidelines. In light of these developments, let's focus on the purpose of this group. That purpose is talking about low-carb diets and supporting those on them. Instead of focusing on the main group, let's focus on keeping our community strong.
Thank you all for your help and understanding during this. Please direct any comments or concerns to

Thank you @Baconslave! Sometimes we need reminding! plus, with so many new members, they may not be aware.0
-
I've noticed if you navigate to "All Discussions," even if a post has recent activity, the pinned announcements don't appear in the recent threads list. So silly, this forum software!!0

We should be close to being off probation. We really don't want to mess up now.0
-
Oops. I've done links before. Sorry about that.0
-
Since I came after the fork in the road, what happens once "we" are off probation? Does this board move to the main forum again?0
-
Since I didn't realize we were on probation, what does that mean currently and after we aren't anymore? Confused.0

If I remember correctly, this post had most of that information: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10184341/upgraded-group-expectations0

Currently, it means the group is private and all new members need to be approved. It also means we can have the whole group shut down, if we fail to correct the problems regarding allegations of instigating problems in the main forums. There's a couple of other minor things, but the main thing is we were at risk of losing our group. As it is, it is harder than it should be for new people to join the group.
When we come off probation, links to threads outside this group will continue to be against the policy. It will continue to be against the group policy to complain about the main forums, members of the main forums, and so on. The only real difference will be that we'll be able to have the group public (and easily joined) again. Plus, we'll no longer be under immediate threat of being shut down. In practice, little will change with what is and is not acceptable here. It's mainly administrative stuff. This group doesn't exist to complain about or discuss the main forums. It exists to encourage, teach, and build a good low-carb community.
The discussion knitormiss posted covers most of it. The main thing will be to avoid cross-linking to discussions outside of here and complaining about stuff that's happening outside this group.0 -
Thank you and I do apologize as I know I have complained about other groups on and off MFP. I now understand better of the reason why that is bad.0

A question:
I tend to post links to this group when I see someone discussing LCHF in a thread that is not... overly supportive of that way of eating. Is that fine or will it make it harder to get off of probation? Is that okay since it is on the main forum?
I didn't realize we were on probation either. Oops again.0 -

This is a difficult question to really accurately answer, because it really depends on the interpretation of the mods and the members in that thread who might report it to the mods. If they interpret that as "attacking" or "encouraging division" then it would cause potential issues for us. Probably not much, as long as there isn't any conversation about it in here as well, but it could come up to encourage people to play nice outside the group. And, I doubt it really would cause a problem, as long as you're just encouraging the positive aspects of this group and not telling the person that the main groups have negative aspects they should avoid. A message that is summed up as, "A great resource and community for low-carb diets is [. . .]" would probably be no problems. "I can't believe how mean everyone out here is. Come to [. . .] where it's safe" is borderline and could make it seem like we're actively bashing the main forums in here (I intentionally put the strike so people know that's not what we want to see).
And, we can't talk about such attempts in here, as it seems divisive and like we're conspiring to cause problems out there.
Also, a private message to the person is fine. If someone is being attacked, consider encouraging them privately and inviting them here.0 -
"encouraging division" what what I was told a year ago was a no no. I was advised not to even reply to anyone just wanting to pick a fight. Now on the main forums I will almost always add something like, 'Well we are all different so what works very well in my base may be very wrong for another.'
Never, only, always are words I try to avoid using any where at this point in life.
I would say NEVER as a child and my father who dropped out in the sixth grade during the great depression would without fail say, "Never is a might long time".0 -
I like our group being private
I have no desire to go public!

Since the "community" function wasn't mobile friendly in the past, I've been an inactive member of this group for a couple of years. Today as I linked my jawbone to MFP, I looked through the posts. I had no idea of this rift on a support site.... And I'm glad I read the rules!!0

Reading instructions is such a last resort kind of thing...
Akin to asking directions...
