Hello all. I'm one month pre-op for the sleeve. I just started my pre-op diet yesterday. Does anyone have any advice on how to survive the next four weeks on this diet? Any help is super appreciated.

What does your diet entail? In the end, it is mostly mental. The first few days are the hardest. When I wanted to cheat, I would ask myself what was more important - the cookie (or other cheat food) or have a successful surgery.

    It's basically a liquid/medifast product diet. It's about 600 to 800 calories a day.

You get through it by focusing on the end results. I found a new hobby, found a good book, and focused on having a spotless house. You'll be surprised how much housework you can get done when thinking about cheating. Exercise is also good option if you are able to exercise. I would go for a 10 minute walk and think about the future of being sleeved and know that cheating wasn't an option. I made it through 29 days of liquids before I moved to pureed foods. I just took it one day at a time. You can do this.

I agree with loveshoe. Are you are you able to have any medifast food, or just the shakes? I found the shakes tasted better if I left them in the fridge for 30 minutes. But, I liked the bars the best. I hated the smoothies. And again, the first few days are hard. Once your body gets used to it (3 to 5 days later), it's easy. So, think of it as being just a few days, or just today, or just right now. And, you can cheat - it is your choice. You just have to decide whether the cheat is more important than successful surgery.

Thanks so much for the great advice. I can have certain medifast foods like the soups, mashed potatoes, and eggs. I can't stand the shakes but I'm using the inspire protein powders mixed with water. I'll keep you posted. It hasn't hit me that this actually going to happen because I had to jump through so many hoops with my insurance company. I'm in graduate school so I'm pretty sure I can do school stuff to great my mind of cheating.

Add ice to your shakes and blend...they'll be thicker and colder and taste better. Add coffee, peanut butter (or peanut flour), or sugar free chocolate for flavor.

The Medifast Ready to Drink are not too bad. I also liked blending the vanilla and chocolate shakes with cold coffee.
