Thyroid Nodules, and supplementation with Synthroid

I have two thyroid nodules which were discovered in 2008. I have gone for ultrasounds every year, and have had two biopsies. Biopsies show benign. My blood work has always been in range...highest TSH has ever been was 2.10. I had my antibodies tested and they were basically zero.

My question is this. Over the last 3 years...my FT4 has continued to go down, where it is now at the bottom of range. Last test, my TSH was 1.29 and FT3 was right in the middle. I am feeling more tired the last several years, and I just had my bi-annual ultrasound, and my nodule has increased in size slightly. My ENT doesn't think I need to take any supplementation. My GP has prescribed Synthroid in the lowest dose .25 , and a recheck of blood levels in 6 weeks.

I'm not sure if I want to take the Synthroid. If it can decrease the nodule, I'm for it. But will I have to take it forever? I'm conflicted.

    Did your GP prescribe Synthroid to reduce your nodules—or to increase your T4?

    I have Hashimoto's, and my endocrinologist is really dismissive about the size of my thyroid. He says it's "only" twice the normal size, and his other patients' are three, four, even five times normal. I've taken Synthroid for more than three years, and my thyroid hasn't gotten any smaller. YMMV.

    I had multiple nodules up to 2cm at one point in time. My Synthroid was increased (150 mcg now) and I began taking Cytomel (5mcg) to supplement since I was also always tired. Apparently it helped because they're all gone now. I have Hashi's though and will be on meds for life.

    Thanks for your replies.

    GP prescribed Synthroid to *hopefully* reduce nodules and increase FT4. FT4 is not out of range, but at the bottom end of range. My one nodule is almost 5cm now... which is considered fairly large.

    Editorgrrl - Do you have goiter or nodules?
