I bought some new stuff this weekend.
Magnesium Citrate: I slept pretty good last night
Morton Lite Salt: not much salt taste & plenty of potassium
Powerade Zero: replaces my diet soda, no bubbles & it has some electrolytes
Hidden Valley Original Ranch dressing: Wow just wow!!!
LouAna Coconut Oil: the boss wants to try it

I would have never learned about this stuff
if it weren't for this great group.

    Cream or butter or both at every meal, they coat my stomach &
    I don't get a stomachache at each meal from my meds. :)

    For years I've been using Walden Farms dressings, an "acquired taste".
    0 cal. 0 fat. 0 carbs 0 protein & near 0 taste

    I have 3 out of 5 of those...coconut oil would be a 4th but I have a local store Organic refined brand of that. I've discovered kerrygold grass-fed butter, it's really good

    I'm too frugal for Kerrygold, Walmart butter is just fine for me. :)
    I stretch a buck till it dam_ near breaks.
    We sale shop & hunt manager specials all the time.
    I'm spending way less $$$ on this WOE than before,
    even less if I include the meds I no longer take. :smiley:

    True. When I started out out hubby complained about how expensive everything was. Especially after one day back in June I sent him out for a bag of almond flour and some coconut oil. Now he calls me the low maintenance babe. Coz I still have that bag of almond flour.... :D

    I like the wal mart brand too @KenSmith108. I have found that I don't spend as much with this woe also. I shop the sales, they rotate every few weeks anyway. I haven't paid regular price in a while now!

    Several months after going carnivore, I decided to clean out my pantry and dispose of all expired (or about to expire) foods that I wasn't going to eat. I don't even want to talk about the amount of money that went into the trash bag just from low-carb "flours." I had a whole unopened bag of expired almond flour, plus half of an open bag. I had coconut flour, flax seed flour, and who knows what else. It was easily over $50 just for the flours. And, it was probably $100+ with everything else included.

    It was a sad day.

    I purchased, and used, some almond flour in the beginning for a flathead pizza. I've not used it since, but do keep it in the freezer for future use if needed. Message here, don't get to worked up buying all of this stuff. Unless you really like to cook and bake you won't use it, then end up tossing it after its no good, like @Fit_Goat. The freezer will extend the life of some things.

    Yeah, it lasts a long time. And, it doesn't go bad all that fast. Mine was expired, but I hadn't used it for 6 months. It was probably still fine to use, but I wasn't going to be using it again anyway. So, I just tossed it all.

    I did that with the expired carbage. It's no fun throwing money away, but good to clean out the pantry!
  • I have excellent luck with Natural Calm (mag cit) too. I feel like I enjoy a deeper sleep.

    My store has a section where you go scoop up as much as you want of stuff and pay by the pound or ounce. I'm 95% sure almond flour is there. Definitely gonna buy no more than a couple cups today. Not gonna get the already packaged one, I saw it was for like 8 bucks or something O.O

    But yeah, scoops are awesome cause you don't have to get a huge amount. How come you guys didn't want to use almond flour anymore? Besides going carnivore obviously haha

    Just haven't found the need to use it again. I just eat meat everyday with a vegetable (mushroom, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts) maybe once a week. Or a salad every few weeks.No desire to make anything that requires it. But I always know it's there if I have the desire again.

    All good, except I don't eat as much Artificial sweeteners, but that's just me. I love the original ranch. And I eat a lot of just plain old Hellman's mayo for dipping sauces for my chicken, ham, sausages. And now they make flavored mayo's like sriracha that are great if you like a little kick. Mayo is loaded with fat too. 0 carbs.

    Is almond meal the same thing as almond flour? Do they do different stuff? Almond meal is what's in the bulk foods section but my recipes call for almond flour

    I think there is technically a difference, but if I'm not mistaken they are interchangeable for most purposes. Until recently I used Bob's Red Mill Almond Flour for all flour replacement. I have coconut flour now, but honestly I think I'm going to go back to almond after this bag is gone. I prefer it.

    Is there a good substitute for psyllium husk powder if my store doesn't have it? It's not with the flour replacements and corn starch stuff

    Almond meal and almond flour both consist of ground almonds, but here are their subtle differences:

    Almond meal is generally a coarser grind made from almonds that almost always still have their skins, so you'll see flecks of the skin in the meal.
    Almond flour is ground more finely and usually made from blanched almonds (no skins).

    I think it only makes a difference if you are doing some elaborate baking. For my purposes, either one is fine.

    Funny, I just found some other sites that say there is no difference and they can be used interchangeably. *sigh* I don't have time for all this. I just buy whatever costs the least. :)
