Brain fog after exercise

I've noticed when I'm consistently under 50g of carbs a day, I usually go for a 30 minute walk on my lunch break, and when I come back to the office I can't seem to think clearly. I'm fine for small talk but if someone asks me something that takes research I cant put words together to answer anything more complicated. What could this be caused from? Is it just because I'm not fully adapted? Today I called a prospects Camaro a Camry and didn't even notice it until she said something. I never do things like that. I'm usually really sharp. I supplement magnesium and get plenty of sodium though I don't log it. This only happens after walking or exercise and its not really exhaustive exercise its a slow walk around a park.

Probably due to lack of adaptation. If you're swinging up and down on your carbs, you're not giving your body time to fully adapt, so you're basically going through carb flu over and over again, but without many of the positives. I think it's commonly referred to as "low carb limbo."

Stick to one or the other and you should start feeling better. And the lower option does work, you just have to give your body time to adjust.

More sodium. I recall you have low bp. On my phone but I just talked to a crazy Russian nephrologist about this stuff. More later.

Without a meter (Precision Xtra, etc) one is just guessing about ketone levels. While the strips are expensive for the ketone testing it gives real lab values. I use the $15 breath analyzer to check my actone level as a Go No Go gauge instead of the urine test strips.

Guessing is NOT good if one has health/safety concerns.

OK, back to my computer now. I forgot to tell you to ensure that you're hydrated too. I can't tell you how much I disagree with the "carb limbo" stuff, but I'll leave that for another day. :)

Let me rest a second, and I'll tell you my story of the crazy Russian nephrologist in a new thread....

I've been drinking tons of water and I put salt in it when I go really low carb again. I'm feeling mostly back to normal now and have good energy. its just for a brief time after walking that I feel the really intense fog.

upped my salt today, I've been putting 3-4 chunks of Himalayan salt in each water bottle I've drank today, so far I've had 5. Plus my regular food. Just got back from my walk and I still feel foggy.

If its just still me adapting shouldn't I be there by now, I went back to below 50 g starting last Monday so its a week and a half, and I was only off lc for a few days before that. and was under 100 g for months before that, plus about 6 weeks of keto in the beginning.

I wish I brought my bp monitor with me today, I'd like to check what it is when I get back to the office after I walk and see if its dropping too low.

On a plus note, I now know how good water tastes with Himalayan salt mixed in it. way better that the lite salt I had been using.

You would think salt would be the simplest thing in the world to understand. NaCl. What could be simpler?

But it's about osmolarity more than salt. Blood has about 140 mmol/L Na+. That water you're drinking? Probably less than that. You may actually be diluting your blood!

That's why broth is so effective. Na+ concentration is higher than the blood. Same with most foods, like pickles.

Just something to think about. :)

ok gonna try some pickle juice see what that does. I really can't stand broth. I mean I love it in soup or with a roast in it but not in a tea cup
  • I see pickle juice for sale at the Sporting goods stores

I tried pickle juice based on somebody here recommending it. Loved it! And the vinegar is probably good for you, too. But my wife complained that I smelled like garlic afterwards....

Today I did not drink the salt water like yesterday. After my walk on lunch I had a couple swallows of pickle juice. I had an appointment right after lunch and I felt great during it. I don't know if it was the juice or because I had a carbier lunch than normal. But thankfully I was on point and got a much need sale. Hopefully tomorrow goes as well as today did.

Yay! It may have been both. For me, the three variables are carb intake, exercise, and sodium intake.

    low carb = need sodium
low or moderate carb + exercise = need sodium
moderate carb w/o exercise = no need
high carb + exercise = no need

It's all about ketones in your urine. At least for me.

Yeah I'm thinking the combo was good. I'll have to try to keep that consistent
