Hi Everyone,

So after experimenting with my macros for a few months, I've decided to go back to low carb as it seemed to work the best. I have a real hard time losing weight, I'm not sure if it's partly due to being hypothyroid or not. Oh and I'm also pre diabetic :( I'm currently at 239 and I can't seem to break 230.

I think I have my exercise plan down. I lift 3 days a week and also trying to train for a 5k. I've gotten stronger but the fat just wants to hang on!

I came back to this group and everyone seems really cool so hoping to hang out and learn a few things!

Welcome! I really love the group too! I've been checking in daily for over 4 months now. There's always great info about all kinds of things to learn about. And it's awesome to get all the great input when I have questions.

Welcome! I found so far for me increasing protein and lowering fat ( or trying to anyways the calculator I found online said I should be sticking to 18.5 grams but boy is it hard at times lol! I've gone over some all this past weekend but still have lost a pound every other day so I'm ok with it :) . So maybe try that and of course low carb or carb cycling which is what I also changed and it helped me break my plateau which I was stuck on for months! Best of luck to you and sounds like your workouts are spot on!

I got stuck for a long while at about 30lbs of loss and have found that a one day (34-ish hours) fast has helped to kick-start weight-loss again so that I'm now at 40lbs lost. I hope it keeps working too as I still have a further 30lbs to go!

Maybe the reason you're not losing weight is because you're increasing muscle with all that weight-lifting? Take your measurements and you will maybe see that you are putting on muscle and you are actually losing fat?

Thanks! I try to take in a good amount of protein so the change I'm trying is raising the fat and lowering the carbs. If I could lose a pound every other day I don't know what I would do! lol. Thanks again.

I would love to lose 39 pounds and get down to 200! I may have to try a fast, never really thought about it before.

Yea I should take measurements. I did take a before photo a while ago and my chest/shoulders look bigger but sadly my gut has stayed the same, lol.

    Thanks for the tips!
  • Do you count calories?

As you get closer to your optimal weight, you may find that necessary

Ask @DittoDan for access to the "ketogenic diet and water fasting group" where he gives his "recipe" for fasting.

My gut has stayed same size despite losing 40lbs :o( just took measurements yesterday - but everything else has lost.

    Welcome back to low carb!

After several years on and off (because I'm stubborn and want to have my health and eat my cake too), the phrase "Back to low carb" now means to me, "I'm done being sick, cranky, depressed, and tired while gaining weight."

Welcome! I was stuck in the same 5-10 lb weight range for 4 years using CICO. Finally, mainly out of desperation and just feeling awful, I started a reduced-carb plan in August, and immediately shattered that plateau (12 lbs down, 5 inches from waist as of today (happy dance)). I think you will like it here and will have good luck with the low carb WOE.

Wow! The 5 inches from your waist is the most amazing part. Definitely not just a water weight drop!

I have tried counting calories but I haven't found the right amount. I've tried from 1700 to 2400ish with minimal success. Maybe I'm wasn't counting accurately enough...

Welcome back. I do have to count carbs if I get knocked out of ketosis but I do understand LCHF does not mean <50 grams of carbs daily to most. I have to just go medium on protein but can eat fats until I am very full then I just have to push back. That pushing back of food NEVER happened when I was living on carbs until 12 months ago.
