Odd cravings ?

Since I started this WOE, I'm absolutely nuts about flat leaf parsley. Can't get enough of it. I think it's full of minerals and potassium. Good for shedding water weight ;)

I'm also crazyyy about chili or hot stuff. I've always been mad about hot food, but now it's even more. I regularly put 1 ts of Sambal Oelek in a portion of soup...Tabasco doesn't cut it anymore!

Before in life I've experienced really odd cravings when sick. Once during a throat inflammation, the only thing I could eat without feeling nauseated was a few slices of melons. Another time it was only apples and boiled rice. I usually love fried or stir fried foods, but sometimes the thought of oily foods is not pleasant.

So I wonder...have you guys experienced any weird out of the blue cravings for specific food items? ...and in what context ?

I want some spicy foods now that I've never wanted, or even liked, before. Oh, and salty is preferred now, where before I avoided it like the plague because I hated the taste and constant pitting edema it caused. So weird now I experience mild edema if I don't get enough!

    Butter. Like, all the time.

I have seriously considered eating it straight of of the dish...

I don't think I've noticed any cravings... Which is ok with me since I don't seem to have a great history dealing with them. Lol
I used to love spicy food years ago, but as I've gotten older, I just can't take the heat anymore. Weird how that can change. It's simply too hot for my mouth and I immediately get hiccups.

I don't crave licking a stick of butter or anything (@bluefish86 ) but I crave fat sometimes. I've had to decrease my fat a little since I'm so close to goal to keep the calorie count down, so some days my body rebels and screams "EAT A JAR OF MAYO." So I'll budget in some tuna or chicken salad that day. Or extra cheese or bacon grease or butter in veggies or something. Or add back CO in my coffee temporarily.

And sometimes I crave bloody red meat. Or nuts. The red meat I try to get a hold of, the nuts I stay away from, because even though I didn't give a fig about them before keto, I binge them like mad now. I can eat ALL THE NUTS.

And I do indeed appreciate a little cayenne pepper in many things these days. Enough for a little heat, but not enough to scorch.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who craves butter. I'm afraid I've been known to spread it on a slice of cooked meat, or slice it and eat it like cheese when I'm really desperate >:)

    Coconut oil. A lot.

Odd because I NEVER craved it before.

Odd enough that I'm cutting it out for a week as an experiment to see if it affects weight-loss. An earlier Foamroller post got me thinking...

My weird one was peanut butter last week and I HATE peanut butter! For 2 days straight all I could think about was peanut butter so I finally had a spoonful and THANKFULLY the craven went way...because I still HATE peanut butter LOL. Other than that I tend to crave bloody steaks (like cooked medium) but that is because I tend to get anemic and instead of craving ice I crave bloody meat.

I crave veggies a lot. I had to go on warfarin for a while (no greens!) and it about killed me. Love me some spinach, squash, yum! I also crave nuts sometimes. Recently found out I'm deficient in potassium, magnesium and some vitamins so that's prolly why. Been trying to listen to my body more and eat more of the foods I want instead of some premade list (as long as they're low carb).

Sweet potato (I bet it's because I struggle to get enough potassium on days I can't afford red meat, even counting what I get from coffee). But I can't eat sweet potatoes because they make me hungry! Too bad, I do love them.

I crave peanut butter. I had to stop buying it because if left alone with a jar and a spoon... well you get the idea. I thought I would crave breads and other carbs, but honestly it doesn't do anything for me anymore! Yay to that!

Broccoli (if I haven't had it for a few days) and oranges. I've recently started adding lemon or lime juice to my water. That citric acid really hits the spot. :)

Citric acid? I buy it by the bag--great sprinkled into skillet of chicken or beef.

Mmmm broccoli. Craving just hit. Sauteed in butter and some salt. Yum. Think that has some potassium, too.

Butter and salt. Separately or together. I have a cup of lite salt on my desk (okay, so it's a disposable cup with a little lite salt in the bottom--not an entire cupful) that I've been taking pinches from all day.

I do think there are good and bad cravings. Animals in the wild will seek out the food they are in need of eating for health.

Animals will got to great effort to get the salt and other minerals they need for health. As we eat better I expect our natural programming may start being a driving force again.

Salted butter. We can only have unsalted in the house(dad is very salt restricted) but I keep a pound of salted at school and I crave it sooo much on the weekends! Salt on butter doesn't seem to cut it. I put the salted in my coffee, with or without some sugar free caramel syrup.

Red palm oil (this is not the same thing as palm oil or palm kernel oil). I think it's because of the high vitamin A content.

Interesting. Never heard of it but after googling it I think I need it!

Cool! I like the taste much better than olive oil. To me red palm oil has a slightly nutty, slightly sweet flavor which is somehow reminiscent of a sweeter squash...like pumpkin maybe. I find that adding it to hot dishes regardless of whether it's a vegetable or a meat really seems to improve the flavor. One note of caution: it is not as easy to work with as olive oil and can get kind of messy. It will liquefy at room temperature if the temp gets warm enough and it will harden up to a solid mass in the fridge.
