I began my two week week very strict liquid diet two days ago and have 11 more to go. I am struggling sooooo bad. I didnt recieve a lot of education and go thru the normal pre op period most people go thru because i have a medical condition that needs taken care of so they pushed my surgery thru in three months time. My date is October 29th. Im having a band taken out and a form of a RNY done. Very nerve racking. Will i know enough? Ive done tons of research on my own, books, blogs, online, even attended a support group that i snuck into. But still feel like i am missing out on so much preparation. I know i can stick to the diet. I lost 150 lbs with the lap band, so that isnt the issue, but the RNY seems so much scarier to me. Finally picked out the vitamins and supplements so that is a relief, and ordered enough shake stuff for about a month post op. so im crossing my Ts and dotting my Is, just wish i had more hands on support. Thought about getting a personal trainer. Im so unmotivated when it comes to exercise. The accountabity part is just not there. Sorry so long, just needed to rant. Be well

You'll be fine!!! This was the hardest part for me, the first few days of liquid diet pre-op. Just stay lazier focused on only eating what you plan to eat, it gets better, and quickly. I had RNYGB a year ago, it took me two years to come around to the idea, it seemed so extreme when I first considered it. But in hind sight I'd do it a thousand times over. Approaching maintenance, I've learned to watch what I eat, which is mostly protein and produce, and I never feel like I'm depriving myself if anything. I go out with friends, I can always find something to eat (or I'll have a shake or protein bar). If I want dessert, I eat it, but that's maybe once a week. Generally, I no longer crave bread, rice, pasta, or sweets, so I choose not to eat them. Excercise is a long term thing, at this point focus on getting rest, 64 oz of water a day, and simply try to be active (walk) as you can...that's important post op, and probably breathing excercises post op. But the gym and serious excercise, don't worry about that until several weeks post op. Just walk as you can after surgery, slowly increase that, and as you lose weight you'll probably feel better and naturally start doing more. Good luck!

Oh gosh I do remember that feeling of being overwhelmed! Did I know what I needed? Was I going to do it all right? You are going to be just fine <3 Practice patience with yourself those first days are scary indeed, but you have lots of support here, this is the best forum filled with lots of wise people. Focus on getting in your liquids and walking as Cabennett said, the rest believe it or not just falls into place with dedication. After about day four of liquids I didn't even miss food anymore, try Unjury Chicken broth - protein based fills you and it's warm so I don't know if it was a mind trick with me or what but I felt like it helped. And if you ever have questions call your surgeon - they work for you, no question is silly, they are there to support you - I made two appointments and sent multiple emails to my NUT to make sure I was doing it right....it paid off at six months I am where they expected me to be at year...I am okay being the PITA (pain in the *kitten*) LOL focus on healing in the beginning and the exercise will come as the weight drops, you will be amazed at the mindshift <3 best wishes! And don't order too much until you are post surgery tastes and tolerance can change...it's weird how the tummies react sometimes I can do things one day and not the next but as said a million times by a million WLS people I would do it all again in a heartbeat!!!

Regarding exercise, why don't you give yourself a deadline. Some limit that says in 3 months, or in 50 pounds gone I will commit myself to X regime of exercise. That's what I have done, and it allows you to see that deadline coming and mentally prepare for it. For me, starting November I'm doing 3 days a week minimum of boot camp. (In addition to my other walking and water aerobics classes) I want to see if it's for me. It sounds like hell, but numerous people have told me I'd like it if I gave it a chance. Also, I went from cramping legs whenever I walked more than 10 minutes to walking 5 miles 3-5 times a week. It takes me 100 minutes on the treadmill at the Y. Now it's so not a big deal. Starting January I'm thinking about Couch to 5 K. Time to think about (cringe) jogging. Small steps. You got this.

Thank you guys so much for responding. I went for a walk today. My Fitness Pal informed me it was a "slow pace". But I walked for about 30 minutes and made it 1.2 miles. Haven't done that in a long time. Maybe tomorrow I'll try to speed it up some. Just had to get out of house and away from ALL THIS FOOD!!!! Day 3 down 5.4 lbs. and I feel every ounce I've lost. Be Well.

Prayers and best of luck to you. It sounds like you are doing all of your prep work well! I understand the fear of not being prepared. I hate not being in control or knowing exactly what to expect. I may be over preparing (from increasing my life insurance to already packing my recovery luggage for staying with family). Haha. I've also been giving shake and supplement purchases some serious thought. Tomorrow is my final dietician appointment. 62 lbs preop gone, 7 more to meet surgeons recommendation. I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed that we can schedule before the end of the year. If you find any great products or informative sites, please share.

I went today and bought measuring cups and spoons, strainers, a digital scale, some more shaker cups and I priced some shaker/blender makers. Really like the magic bullet and it's only $40. Not bad. Let me know if you find any gadgets that you like as well.

Slow pace is better than no pace! Don't worry about speed - that will come. You're moving, and that's important.

Once you make it 5 days, it gets a little easier. You got this!
