Disgusted

For the first time in 5 months, I really fell off the wagon. I had dinner with friends at a new restaurant. The meal included dessert and boasted some seriously good desserts. I got the double chocolate cake wedge ( not piece, actual cake wedge) and I ate it all. I feel so sick, literally so. I know that one meal does not define you and that all that matters is how you move forward but I really hate that I did this to myself because I just feel so bad. So if anyone out there Is wondering if it is ok to "cheat" on this WOE, it's just not. At least in my opinion.

What's done is done. Remember how you feel, in this moment, the next time a craving or urge to cheat comes over you. I think we've all been there done that so pick yourself up and move on0

Life happens @Couchpotato39 If it is a WOE for you, then occasionally this stuff will happen. Sorry you feel bad, but think if it happened to your best friend: what would you say to him/her - would you beat them up over it?0
-
It was a learning experience. And it sounds like you have learned a lot.
It might feel like a set back for several days, but nothing that teaches us valuable lessons is ever really a set back.
It will be easier to resist next time because you know how sick you feel now. I had a similar experience after eating at a Chinese buffet. Ugh! Not good for my belly. I won't do that again.0 -
Well, let's look at this glass half full. Consider the experience as an opportunity to replenish muscle glycogen to help you put out harder at the gym. I wouldn't necessarily call it an excuse but it doesn't hurt to try and take advantage of your situation. You'll feel like garbage for a couple of days but also leverage that as incentive to push yourself harder and realign your motivations with your goals.0
-
Yeah maybe you could go do an extra hard workout after you feel physical better to relieve the anguish.
Also, I ate way off of keto last night so you're not the only one. I don't feel bad though I'm just pissed they smothered my meat in sugary teriyaki sauce lol.0 -
When I indulge in a high carb treat like a piece of chocolate cake, I feel so much extra energy that I have to burn. I've learned though if I indulge early, I will be hungry all day, so a night time cheat is better I think. It is easier to go low carb the next morning.0
-
Thanks for the encouragement and advice, ya'll. I feel hungover today from the experience. I plan on having a longer than usual workout today after work and I went back to low carb eating this morning.0
-
It's a lesson we all have to learn. Sometimes it takes a couple rounds of "hangover" or "carb-sickness". I've been at this for almost an year and a half, and occasionally I get clumsy and fall off the wagon.
It's good you are dusting yourself off and getting right back to work. Take this lesson you have learned, and then put the "oops" behind you. Remember the consequences, but it's over and done. I like to say "No guilt, but no excuses." You got right back up and are back on the path. That takes strength.
Fall down 7 times. Get up 8. There's some Chinese proverb cheese for you. But it's so true.

Since it had a negative side effect in your case why are you planning to do it again?0 -

I know this is kind of outside the norm, but I'm actually quite acutely jealous of those of you who have bad reactions to carbs. I don't have that. The worst I had was when I'd been VLC for quite a while and had a bite of icing/glaze (this was several months back). The small piece of cake I'd included in my day did not bother me (pushed my macros to the limit, but small enough that I squeezed it in there), but I got an instant sugar rush headache from the icing. It passed quickly enough. Even after my ridiculous carb overload weekend escalated from the 80's on Thursday to 310 or so on Sunday, the worst I had this week was a little headaches as I readapted, which were quickly treated with broth. I don't have crazy stupid weight gain; I don't feel bag/sluggish/lethargic/have bathroom troubles; as long as I don't go on a four day bender, I readapt pretty quickly (this is the first incidence or carb flu repeat); now that I've gotten my cravings better managed, I didn't even have a resurgence of cravings. About the only thing I did that was the "eat more ignore fullness" feelings, but I got disgusted when I realized it and dumped a bowl of carby crap down the sink.
So I know it's really not fair or nice, exactly, but I wish I had the negative reactions. They could be a good reminder of why not to return to that eating style, of why I do what I do... So, I just wanted to give you some perspective on why it might be a positive thing to look at, your reacting to eating off plan... It's the reminder your body is giving you to stay healthy...

I didn't used to have a reaction. If I did a cheat, I would be fine. Within the last 3 months though, my body will not tolerate cheats at all. I can't binge-eat carby junk any more. I WILL get sick. Just sayin' that as time goes on we change, so you may indeed end up with the carb-reaction later.

Something to which to look forward! No, I'm not a masochist... I just know how my brain works. Backsliding into cheating because I figure out how to work the system is my biggest stumbling block. Always has been.0 -
Ugh! I've spent the last two days overcoming a bunless cheeseburger I ate at our county fair. Oh my! No more fake burgers or stinkin American sliced cheese! Wasn't even a true cheat! These memories will definitely help future food choices, or just stick with water when there isn't a good choice! Hope your feeling better OP!0

Hey Karla,
What was wrong with the bunless burger, other than the fake cheese ? I went to Blazin' Onion with my girls last night and had the lettuce wrapped, bacon cheeseburger. I scraped all the caramelized onions off of it, too sweet, but then did eat a couple of real battered onion rings.... I know, not good, but they tasted good! Still managed to be under 40 carbs for the day, but over a bit on calories.

This!
Our adaptability is a blessing and a curse. It feels great to achieve but I have to catch myself sometimes when I'm trying to manipulate this WOE to fit what I want, instead of what works.
Having said that, dealing with the worst carb hangover ever and diarrhoea the next day often helps me catch myself. Soooo not worth it.

On no @Christine! It's fine from an actual fast food place, better at least. This had to have been the cheapest they could find, processed and full of fillers that induce the GI distress over these last two days! Another lesson learned!0

Absolutely agree. The lack of reaction had allowed me to cheat without too much consequence occasionally and it fed dysfunctional relationships with food. Now, it's a pretty clear reminder as to why I don't eat that stuff any more. My body reacts like I've eaten something poisoned. I literally, by binging, overdose. Def makes me pause. My body is trying to tell me something. And now I HAVE TO listen. Perhaps I'll be able to nail down the last remnants of my issues once and for all.0
