Swollen ankle

I have damage to one leg from surgery and a blood clot 7 or 8 years ago. I tend to get a swollen ankle, which could lead to serious health problems. I've managed to avoid surgery and compression stockings so far, [I believe my walking helps], but recently its got seriously bad, and I've had to resort to a non-presciption sock (on some days) for the first time in 7 years. Is there any possibility that the changes from Keto might be connected?

A few people have reported edema. Keto does affect the kidneys in several ways, and the kidneys regulate fluid.

I have experienced some swelling, but for me it tends to be on low salt/sodium days, because that's when my body retains water. I find that the further adapted I get, the less I swell. Also, since I just had a weekend carb fest and am readapting, I noticed swelling last night I hadn't had in a while.

Edema after sleeping for 8 hours would be a concern to me but not so much at bedtime. Swelling of my feet stopped after about six months of LCHF for the most part. Going high on carbs for one day will lead to swelling still I have noticed.

I've never had a blood clot, but did suffer sever edema in my feet before going LCHF. I see now as long as I keep my sodium intake close to 4000mg a day, I don't have the swelling. Seems counterintuitive, but with keto it's not.

Don't hesitate to seek a medical opinion if it becomes red and hot along with pain! And don't rub it! Best to you!!

I get pretty severe edema in my legs and feet when I don't move enough and/or have a much higher sodium day than average. You have to build your tolerance for salt, so you might have had a high day. I like medi peds for myself.

Yeah - could be the salt - I went to a doctor last week about something else and mentioned it to him and he said cut the salt, but in the last few weeks everyone here says add salt. lol :p _ I've had no added salt for at least 10 years. I've stopped adding salt again - except for eggs

If I lie down with my leg up, swelling goes down, like right now at 9pm no swelling cause I took an afternoon nap. Also if I can get a long walk in the middle of the day it helps, but during the week I have several days when I have to work at the computer for 8 hours straight doing live support and can't break for more than 3 minutes.
