Hi ladies!

So a few people posted that they were interested in swapping recipes. I would love for people to post recipes here! I will post links to a separate recipes on given days along with workout ideas. You will see them in the "events." But just in case people want some very comprehensive ideas, I'll post a few sites here.

Whole 30
If you are really serious about eating healthy throughout the holidays, I'd recommend considering the Whole30. It is pretty intense, and includes cutting out all added sugars (which is so hard!) You can find more info on their website: http://whole30.com/whole30-program-rules/

Paleo
You can definitely subscribe to the Paleo Diet and not be super healthy, but the general idea is a good one. The plan cuts out added artificial sugar (but allows you to eat natural ones like honey), and also cuts out carbs, which I know is an addiction of mine! There are TONS of great paleo websites out there, so feel free to google, or PM me if you want some ideas.

Going Sugar Free
I am hoping Ally will weigh in on this, since she is vegetarian and sugar free, but just trying to lay off the sugar is also another super healthy goal!

Kid Friendly Meals
If you are looking for stuff for you and the kiddos, I would recommend superhealthykids.com. They also have a great Facebook page and their stuff always looks so yummy, so give it a like.

21 Day Fix
A program I have not tried that a bunch of moms in a fitness FB group I'm in love is the 21 Day Fix. This is also from BeachBody. It is a workout program, but if you order the kit (I think its like $60) it comes with colored tupperware for your food. It's a fairly simply plan from what I understand. No calorie counting. If it fits in there, you can eat it! There are different calorie plans and the tupperware colors stand for different types of food (veggies, protein, fruit, sauces and oils, etc). Another really amazing thing about the 21 Day Fix from a workout perspective is the the workouts are only 30 minutes!

South Beach Diet
I feel like this diet was popular like 10-15 years ago, but its a great concept! Again it focuses on cutting out sugars and carb. It goes in "phases" and because it was such a fad like paleo, there are tons of resources for recipes, etc. Check it out: http://www.southbeachdiet.com/diet/

We've typically aimed for a Zone-like macronutrient ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat in our house, and used a lot of the Eating for Life recipes from Bill Phillips. If you portion honestly, it makes life easy and doesn't require drastic dieting or massive restrictions.

But we've done crazy extremes in this house over time for different reasons. I remember doing a modified BodyOpus, aiming for ketosis 5 days/week. I swear by the 3rd day, I could smell the fast-food fries from inside my car driving by on the highway. When my teenage son was playing a lot of sports, our household became focused on accommodating his desired muscle and weight gain (I personally can't imagine being in a place where I was trying to GAIN weight, but stealing a line from my 3 yr old, "I've already mastered that").

When my toddler began choosing meals based on the refined starch ("I want pasta for dinner, or rice, or noodles-pasta (means Chinese versus Italian)"), and was totally content with a meal of bread and butter, I decided to try to greatly reduce our dependence on refined starches. (Just refined starches, we're in on all natural starches). We've added some Paleo recipes solely for their lack of refined starch.

We did really well and I found I didn't really miss them after the first few weeks (granted the plethora of Tex-Mex restaurants around us with bottomless bowls of fried tortilla chips - and delicious frozen margaritas - is not helpful). When we headed out for a massive family reunion marathon with the 4 sides of the family this summer, adding a Disney vacation and two funerals, I basically gave up. You seem like a complete jerk when you're forever trying to modify the plans because you don't feel like hotdogs at the beach today after yesterdays pizza at the pool after the Publix fried chicken at Aunt so&so's the day before, etc. . . Then Grandma moved in with us temporarily and while she did well on Atkins previously, she's in a heavy junk food phase at the moment.

So my goal is to get the household back on track and keep an honest account of what and how much food/drink is going in and what and how much activity I am actually doing besides just finger movements at a computer. My plan is just to take us back to the basics and eat less processed foods.

Going sugar free changed my life. It incorporates the concept of mindful eating because now I read every single label to see if sugar is added. (Not the nutritional facts rather the actual ingredients.) i was shocked how much sugar is added to things, like bread, pasta sauce, and almost all sauces in restaurants (like salsas, phad thai, etc).

I use stevia drops in my coffee for sweetness. :)

I am a cold turkey kind of person so I had to make the commitment hardcore. I never liked bread or baked goods so I have never tried the stevia baking substitute but friends say they love it.

You can go sugar free! It just takes preparation and strong will! :)

Also I have found vegetarianism (and veganism) to be the easiest way for me to ensure healthy eating. I was never good with healthy choices or portion control so I decided what I needed was to just take options off of my plate.

I feel like for me cutting out added, unnatural sugars would be so huge. I've tried to do it and I feel like my bloating goes down after like 24 hours! I generally think natural sugars are okay (we do honey sometimes, and definitely fruit). I've had so much trouble with my milk supply anytime I try to change my diet at all, so other than being generally mindful (which is so hard, since I'm a goal-setter like Ally), I am going to wait until my bebecita is a year before I try anything like that!

I think you can buy unsweetened! That's what we get! It almost impossible to avoid all sugar!
