Tell Me About Your Goals For The New Year

So as I was journaling today, I wrote down that I need to get my goals down on paper, what I would like to achieve in the next year. Then I made goals just for January. I don't do New Year's resolutions. I like the word goals better.
I will list mine. I kept it to 5 for the year. Simple goals that will yield big results, I think.

2016 Goals:

1- Stay Keto, quit having nibbles of sugary carbs that throw me out of ketosis EVERY TIME!

2- No smoking cigarettes- I have been back sliding occasionally the past few days. Get rid of e-cig by June. It helps me stay off the cigarettes most of the time, but I think it is also an enabler and just a new addiction :(

3- Go to the gym regularly, especially since I am paying for a membership

4- Better Money management, stick to the Budget. Nuff said.

5-Be diligent about my water intake. It does affect my weight loss if I don't have enough.

January Goals-

1-Strict Keto- I bought the Ketovangelist January Recovery meal plan as a joint Christmas present for me and the hubs. Good decision or waste of money? I don't know yet, I hate meal planning. I can find tons of recipes, but well I guess I am lazy. Let some one else do it for me. It looks simple to do, the food is simple and looks like something I will enjoy and Hubby and my partner at work will be doing it with me. and I feel it will keep me on track and back where I need to be food wise.

2-No smoking cigarettes, self explanatory!

3- Gym at 2x a week to get back in routine, increases as needed.

4- No scale January. I will weigh on the first, then toss it in my car or something. I am a daily weigher and while it helps me keep on track (do I need to cut back on food or drink more water?) it is also a big disappointment when I have been eating well and see no change or a gain. So I am going to trust the strict keto and hide the scale.

5- Water, water and more water. Aim for 100oz/day.

6- Money- STICK TO THE DARN BUDGET!!! This has been tough for me the past few months, time to tighten the belt.

I didn't make any weight goals, or clothing size goals because I thought Why? I will just be disappointed when I don't reach xxxLBS or X clothing size. I decided to make goals that I can actually achieve. They all will take discipline some more than others, but I believe that these are goals that I can obtain. I just wanted to post them here to get the in "concrete".

So tell me about your goals.

What a great idea to get it out in words..I have a couple I'm working on and maybe more to add as I think through what I want to achieve in 2016.
    • First thing I need to get to goal weight by the end of the summer. My son is getting married next October and I want to enjoy dress shopping and not dread pictures! I don't have a lot more to lose, maybe tops 15 - 20 lbs. I don't have an exact # in mind, I just know when I'll get there :)
    • With that being said I need to get strict with Atkins again after the New Year!
    • Exercise more regularly...I've really been slacking especially weight lifting.
    • I'm also planning to work on my budget this year. I started a great plan last year and managed to get lots into savings. Once I pay off all the Christmas shopping bills in January I'll get back at it! I love Dave Ramsey and his plans...very simple to follow :)

That's it for now!! But I think it's all doable and not too much of a stretch to achieve (except maybe the exercise as I've become quite lazy-a) :)

I am keeping my goals vague too. When I get too specific I seem less likely to hit it. I rebel or something. It's lame but true.

    2016 Goals
    • Continue eating keto, which is below 25g of carbs for me, with the occasional foray into low carb (<50g carbs for me) to switch things up.
    • I will break my habit of evening snacking. I don't need to eat after 7pm and it has to stop - it keeps messing up my FBG the next day. Grr. My FBG should never go above 5.5... A snack isn't worth it!
    • I want to get smaller but at this point it may mean just replacing fat with muscle. At the most, the scale will move down 10 lbs or so. At the least, the scale will not move at all or go up just a bit. I am 5'8" and 151 lbs, which might be a good weight if I was more fit.
    • Exercise more days than not. I want to get through all of P90x a few times and do my new Insanity DVDs a few cycles once I get in good enough shape that it won't kill me. I want muscle and working out hard is the only way to do it. I need to do it now because it will only get harder. I'll be 42 soon so putting it off isn't smart.

This link has my motivating pictures. The cross section of the thighs of a 40 year old athlete, a 70 year old athlete, and a 70 something year old sedentary man... Yikes! http://www.bettermovement.org/blog/2012/use-or-lose-looks-like. I can feel the fat sitting on top of my muscle even though i am a nice size 8. I KNOW that my thigh would look a lot closer to the sedentary senior's thigh than the athlete's. I really want to change that. I want to feel powerful again!! I want movement to be effortless...at least easier.

Basically my goals are to continue with a WOE that is working for me and my health, and become more fit and strong.

I love the thought of a few major goals to set the tone for the new year. I stopped doing resolutions, too, because they were always weight related, and I always failed. :s When you have been overweight all of your life, losing and gaining the same weight, you feel like it's never going to change anyway so why bother?

However, I feel confident that 2016 may be a tad different. These are three goals I have moving forward into the new year.

-continue with this WOE (20 grams carbs or less) for inflammation issues, general health/well-being, and weight management
-continue strength training with personal trainer 2x a week w/limited cardio
-continue to connect with others who share the same WOE

My goals for new year are as follows:

    Primary:
    1. Fix my sleeping habits, because functioning on 3-4 hours of sleep a night is not optimal for a human being.
    2. Brush my teeth three times a day.
    3. Start a meditation habit.
    4. Find a new job.

    My secondary goals:

    1. Max the physical fitness test.
    2. Diversify my workouts (do more yoga, crossfit, obstacle trainig, etc).
    3. Get my next promotion.

I'll be putting together an action plan with sub-goals and checklists before the end of the year.

Sleep Aponea? My good friend had "bad insomnia and addiction to horrible literature". The sleep clinic gave her actale home madk to wear that moniored her breathing and sleep. The doctor said to her, if you have ever said that you feel like you didn't sleep a minute last night, well you are telling the truth. Aponea woke you up over 75 times an hour, each hour of the night. Worth checking as it has literally vhanged my friends life!!

I began this woe last March, not knowing the true benefits that awaited me! My goals were to lose weight, feel healthy, and be able to wear pretty clothes. The weight loss became a side effect once the awesome health benefits began to reveal themselves (most major is the near disappearance of fibromyalgia pain!) and I realised I felt good enough to return to work, after being unable for ten years! Being able to wear pretty clothes is vain, I know, but it feels wonderful! So, I feel I blew well past last year's goals!!

2016 goals will revolve around continuing to build my strength to aid working ability to full time employment status (making this goal for health, and financial reasons)

I will establish myself as a patient of a plastic surgeon sometime during this year. 130 pound loss leaves one in need of improving a few things.

I'm already committed to 20gm of carbs, or less, daily, for life! And I will continue to allow the weight loss to be a side effect (though it is a nice one) of this woe. I am confident that my body will continue to lose until it doesn't need to anymore! This confidence is still unfamiliar, but I'm gradually changing the thought processes to include success!

Continue with elimination of negative self talk! I wouldn't hang around with people who talk to me the way I used to talk to myself, and learning that I deserved better was huge! I'm still a work in progress where this is concerned!

Bring it on 2016! Happy New Year everybody!

Here's another 30 day meal plan for anyone interested. It's technically free, though he does ask for a donation if you feel like it.
    http://www.ruled.me/30-day-ketogenic-diet-plan/
I haven't used it because I typically don't cook from recipes. Too complicated for my taste. Lol I'm too lazy! I just put together what I think sounds good!
Anyway, I don't have any goals really besides to keep on Keto-ing on!

    1. Make it to 150lbs by August 19th. I'm 163lbs now, but I'm also in maintenance until May 1st.
    2. Able to run a half marathon by the end of next year. Not compete, just be able to do it.
    3. Nail all the yoga positions if only for a few seconds, but hopefully for 1 minute each.

Thanks for this. I will have to check it out for my February meal plan. I have difficulty in planning meals and it puts me in a tail spin. But I have also been changing my way of thinking what a "meal" is. If I wanna have pepperoni and cream cheese roll ups with a pickle on the side for breakfast it isn't wrong just because it isn't typical "breakfast" fare. I am to the point if it's tasty and fits my plan I can eat it when I want it!

Similar to what others have mentioned already:
    1) Be consistent w/ quality Keto foods...less experimenting around...just stick with what works
    2) Lower Blood pressure (less stress, more exercise (esp. anaerobic such as weight lifting & HIIT), quality diet)
    3) Budget cuts & being a miser to pay off student loans faster

Number 1 is me. I know what works for me and need to stop experimenting. PS: V_Keto_V if that's you in the profile photo you're what the main boards say DOESN'T happen lol. Nicely done.

I haven't gone through and made my official list of goals yet for 2016 but so far:
    * Get down to 133 or below (or whatever weight I can fit back into my clothes) and maintain. Stay at least somewhat low carb once I'm back at maintenance (I'll experiment to see if keto long-term seems best for me).
    * Strength train at least twice a week, plus HIIT/maybe running.
    * Get at least 8 hrs of sleep most nights (go to bed earlier!).
    * Find income streams sufficient to be able to get DH a new car and be able to save and give more.
    * Read at least 24 books.
    * Make it up to Indy to visit my parents.
    * Do something special to celebrate my 40th birthday and our 10th anniversary.

Be open to all possibilities! I'm ready for next level living!

    Lose weight in 2016.

I had lost a total of 90 pounds from my highest weight coming into 2015, and I maintained that weight loss, but had lots of ups and downs and for the last 6 months of 2015 was constantly in a cycle of cheating for a week then getting back on track for a week. So the good news is that I went a year without gaining weight. But I still have 50 pounds to go and made no progress on that in 2015. So for 2016 I just want to weigh less at the end of the year :)

The other big goal I have is to move out. It should be happening by March or so. I currently live with my mom and sister. I moved back home to help take care of my dad when he got cancer, and I'm really glad I did, but its past time to get back out on my own, so that's the other big goal for the year.

January Goal to get below 260Lbs by end of month. This should be easily achievable at my current pace. So attainable.

I would like to get to 220 or 210 by end of June 2016. My wife and I have been invited to join a group of friends on a trip to Ireland (bucket list destination) and it would be that much more enjoyable if I can easily fit into...you name it, plane seats, small cars, small pubs, small hotels, nice clothing....not get out of breath just tying my shoes...LOL

For 2016, I would like to get down to 200LBS by the end of the year. I don't really have a firm "end goal" but anything in the range of 180-200LBS would be optimal.

Adopt this WOE in a permanent way that I can sustain for the rest of my life. I really want this for my health, for my own life enjoyment and for the benefit of my family. This has always eluded me on every previous attempt to shed the weight. I am praying this will be "the" time when it sticks.

Next, is re-introducing healthy carbs up to around 100g per day. This is going to be a bit of a challenge as I will need to closely monitor the carb versus weight gain ratio, and there is no science that I am aware of that can help me out. It will be totally individual. For my long term lifestyle I want to be able to consume some carbs (i.e. fruit, a bit of wine now and then, perhaps half a baked potato now and then, etc). Ultimately, I didn't get to 306LBS by eating fruit and baked potatoes. It was all the crappola that got me here. If I can just keep that stuff at bay then I should be able to maintain with a moderate amount of healthy carbs.

    Jan goals

1)do more food prep and planning. I seem to keep me on track and it helps me to......

    2) stop eating out! I spend way to much money and waste part of my meal cause I go get a burger and throw half of it way.

    3) stick to budget, spent way to much on Christmas and need to pay it off and work towards getting debt free

    Goals for upcoming 2016:
More/better sleep. I tend to stay up late reading- 5:00 am rolls around awfully quick.
    More exercise!
Back away from the alcohol. I love to get a beer when I go out and most times I feel nothing else will do. I must re-train my brain on that one.

@daylitemag - I was to Ireland in October. If you have the opportunity, definitely go. It was amazing.

I want to establish good, consistent habits:
    1) Write every day;
    2) Make sure I maintain the health of my back and its support structures; and
    3) I want to be outside in nature more often. Maybe that means hiking?

I feel like I have succeeded in establishing Keto as my healthy habit in 2015, so CHECK off that goal, and just don't let up!
