I read an interesting article last night in Yoga Journal about New Years Resolutions. As a tool to keeping your goals for this year, it suggested doing creative visualization of the new you a year from now if your New Years resolutions are successful. Then write a letter from your new self to your old self dated 1/1/2017. Thank yourself for all the things you did or sacrificed to achieve your goals and acknowledge that it was totally worth the effort. (it said that of the 45 percent of Americans who make resolutions, only 8 percent keep them. Conversely, people who make them are ten times more likely to achieve their goals for the year then people who don't!) That article also said to take each goal and plan the steps it would take to achieve it.

DreamOn I think that is a good idea. I am going to do it too.0 -
Questions for those trying RS. It says to cook then cool the product, Can you reheat it or do you have to eat it cold? Not finding an answer for that. Of course part of that is because Firefox crashes on almost every website these days. Since ver. 40 it has really gone downhill. Might have to learn to live with ads on Edge UGH.0

Joelle, Check out this post if you can. http://freetheanimal.com/2014/10/reheating-digestive-resistance.html Essentially he says that reheating actually increases RS.

I had posted this under articles. I think its the basics of the resistant starch information. I have the bob's potato starch and have been cooking and cooling potatoes and rice. I just went through a course of antibiotics for a respiratory infection though so its possible I need some probiotics for this to work well. I will play with it and give it time to see what I think.
I am so loving being back on the yoga. I can't believe 4 days has made such a difference but it has. Today I went into TJ Maxx and what was on the clearance section by the door? Foam yoga bolsters! So I grabbed one!
I am lighting a candle every morning in a spot that I see all day and stating my intention to live 2016 as a yogi and an artist. Also bought some great scented soy candles on that clearance rack! Good shopping trip! lol

This will be my year to eat smaller portions and not in 3 big meals. When I fill up too quickly, I have a very difficult time breathing. So this isn't a matter of "wanting to," it's a matter of "needing to."
I've been going to the Y 2X week for enhanced fitness and silver sneakers yoga--I love it. Haven't been able to go this week because of a low grade sinus infection that decided to get worse this week. I've already been on 2 different antibiotics over the last 6 weeks, but nothing seems to get rid of it for good. Seeing my Pulmonologist later this week and, hopefully, she'll have a solution.
I hope to be here more often this year, too. Good luck to us all.0 -
For those who go to restaurants. In the US we are supposed to have calories and nutrition counts available everywhere soon. MFP is adding a way to pinpoint the restaurant you're at do you can easily find the relevant info. Wish it had been available this past week, but now I'll be ready next time family comes!0

MFP is adding a way to pinpoint the restaurant you're at do you can easily find the relevant info. Wish it had been available this past week, but now I'll be ready next time family comes!
To use this, you will need to have your phone share your location when using the app, for iphones go to settings, scroll down till you see the MFP under your apps listing, Location. You can set it to only when using the app. I don't have an android os, but am guessing it will be a similar setting.
It found the restaurant I wanted, but not at the location nearest me, I like Le Peeps, a breakfast lunch place that in several states and the Denver area has several of them. It did locate the one near downtown Denver and a couple of others just not the one in my neighborhood. I have a download of the nutritional info and when I get the time will be comparing that to the apps info.
This will be a very helpful feature if it is working properly. Great when you travel you can check out menus ahead of time and even find new places to go to if you invest a bit of time researching.

You might even find smaller meals through out the day help in your weight loss efforts.
Hoping your sinus issue gets cleared up, I know how miserable they can be. Get better soon.0 -

I haven't had time to browse the blog, thanks for the link.
I am not a fan of Chrome, tried it a few times and it just didn't work for me.
UPDATE:
Back from reading that blog. I will NOT be adding potato starch to my diet. Colon cancer is in my family. I can't take that risk. I do like the idea of cooking, cooling and reheating carbs. I just don't think I should be supplementing with anything high in RS2/3, based on the info in the links to Mark Sisson in the blog.0 -
Thanks for this thread - lots of good stuff - Will try the New Healthier You Fitness Plan (link above) but a bit nervous I'm trying too much too soon ... But will give it a shot tomorrow - Hope your day was successful!0

Retirehappy, I'm hoping that the smaller portions will help get the last 3 pesky pounds off. Being realistic, I see that it eating the same amount of calories so far, just split up differently. I realize this will take a little time to get used to, though, and not looking for instant results.
The sinus infection is nothing new, just going on too long this time. Hoping the dr will have some miracle drug to cure me. LOL.

Having more restaurants in the database would be wonderful! There are already several there that we frequent but I would appreciate more menu items from those that are in the database. I'll try to pay more attention in the future. Thanks for the good info.0

Retire I did not see the information you mentioned about the potato starch. Thanks for posting it. I will go back and look for it!
I am getting off to a sluggish start. I am doing ok calorie wise, but not eating as healthy as I should. Admittedly, my husband is a bad influence, but I can't use that as too much of an excuse since I do all the cooking lol. I just need to get myself back to that tipping point where I start losing. Good thing that I set a goal of only 3 lbs a month! I still have a good chance of making that! lol I have a feeling things will get a bit easier starting Monday. My husband is finally going back to work and I will have my regular schedule back. I am waiting until then to add the bike back in. I picked a yoga position that did not do well with my shoulder so I had to rest from yoga for a few days. At least I do stick with that fitbit and those 5k steps!!! That little thing was one of the best investments I ever made!0 -
DreamOn--I'm the original "junk food queen" so I know you can't be doing worse than I am. LOL. I do good one day and fall back to bad habits the next. I am getting more steps in though now that my treadmill is set up again. And I do manage to maintain 3-4 pounds more than my goal, but it is better than nothing. Will keep working on it and hopefully will be in a routine by the end of the month.0

I read a great book this weekend - one of those that I got for a penny from the amazon booksellers (plus $4 shipping of course). It's called The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth. I always think I am pretty savvy about nutrition, but I got some information out of this one. In addition to the list and nutritional information about each food, he also has a list of super star foods. And at the end of each chapter is a list from other well known nutrition gurus who gave a list of their favorite ten foods. A lot of similarity in the lists of course, but a few surprises. Now I am going to stick my list on the frig and see how many of them I consume each week. So far I made some amazing maple granola with dried tart cherries that I am using for a yogurt topping. And I am definitely going to eat more wild caught salmon!

@sharondtd I was so mad last year when the calorie calculations on menus mandated by the FDA was postponed from December 2015 implementation to December 2016. Currently, I download restaurant pdf's to my phone. Some of my favorites, I make a little spreadsheet and carry in my purse of my favorite dinners. I list many of my favorite meals under meals leading with the calorie count. I can usually add up calories quickly no matter what restaurant I enter. Of course, the rules will only be required for restaurants with 10 or more locations. As you know, I eat out every night, or nearly.
Tonight, I have already decided on Pei Wei. Small Mongolian Steak lettuce wrap, veggie spring roll, and a fortune cookie. My little spread sheet 4.5" x 4.5" for Pei Wei lettuce wraps, that I keep in my purse, makes it easy. (See below) I knew my dinner needs to be around 525 calories. Of course, I have two motivations to take the time to do things like this: 1. I eat out all the time, and 2. if you can't make an Excel spreadsheet, it isn't worth doing! In the end, the time it takes overtime is quickly outweighed by the convenience when eating out.

Charlie, Your Spreadsheet idea is terrific. I discovered some of the restaurants already have a handout available, also.0

GMCharlie, I thought you might have a spreadsheet for eating out . Good to see you posting again. I use online menus a lot when I eat out but I do like exploring ethnic places that often don't have listings, so I use recipes on line to find similar meals.0

Wow, spread sheets for everything! lol I am impressed. Good to see you Charlie! I would love to eat out more often (instead of doing dishes! lol) but I am afraid I would not have be able to stay within my calorie range if I did! That must take some serious discipline!0
