Drinking water / extra salt

I try to drink at least 2 Litres / 8 cups of water a day - usually more than that.
I also take half a teaspoon of salt in water each morning.

But, I am wondering if the more water I drink, it is flushing out the extra salt I'm taking.

How much extra salt do other very low carb people take?

I'm eating a whole pickle a day and putting more salt on my food than I used to.

There is definitely a balance with water and salt. Where the right amount is will vary a little from person to person. It's generally recommended to get between 3000mg to 5000mg a day. How low carb you are tends to matter too. Being in ketosis generally puts a person at the higher end of the recommendation. You will feel it if you're not getting enough. The symptoms people describe as "Keto flu" are the signs of electrolyte loss.

I tend to take 1g extra a day, which is 1 salt tablet. And I salt the crap out of my food too. I end up getting 3-4g per day.

I think the tablets are a great idea

I use the tablets daily. I don't always feel like eating just to get salt! 4000 mg is my daily intake. I will have awful leg cramps if I don't!

But yes, more water intake leads to increase in sodium needs.

I put salt on much of my food now. I drink at least 1 bouillon cube dissolved in 2 cups of water daily just for the sodium, and I also usually take at least 1.5 ounces of something called "Gut Shot" (it's basically either fermented pickle juice or fermented sauerkraut juice - I don't remember which one right off hand). I try to get at least 4000 mG of salt per day. My body is happier the closer I get to 5000 mG of salt per day. The higher my sodium goes, the less foot and leg cramps when I wake up in the morning. If you follow LCHF, you will need a LOT of salt!

I actually don't track my salt. If I feel lightheaded or just off in some way I figure I'm out of whack and drink some broth. I also have an electrolyte supplement I add to my water if I think I'm not getting enough. Otherwise I just salt my food before eating.

I think I need more easily. I'm going to start weighing or a portion each day to consume, and cut doyen on water too. Thanks for your input :)

This was something I didn't know and I've felt like crap since yesterday. Literally slept almost all day and just drained. I'm glad someone posted about this because I still felt bad this morning, then I read this, and literally drank a teaspoon of (kosher) salt in a glass of water. Normally that would sound sooo gross but it tasted amazingly good and within the last 10 minutes I feel a LOT better.
I figured I got enough salt because I put salt on everything, and always have, but apparently not.
