Well, I'll take it Happy to be back where I was before the road trip for the holidays. It feels good to be in the 120's. But, I know things will slow significantly now.
Lois and Light, I hope you're starting to feel better. A lot of people around here are also sick with winter viruses. . lot's going around. So far my flu shot seems to be working . . fingers crossed.
Kelly, have a wonderful get-away with your guy! Sounds wonderful.
Sarah, my trainer used to get that SAD in the winter. She used the light, and loved it. It's snowing here today, so I'm off to do the treadmill. We went out yesterday despite the cold. (We go on a weekly date on Tuesdays now that we're retired ) It seems like I feel better if I go outside even if it's cold, but I'm wary of snow and ice ever since I fell at the park a couple years ago. . I promised my daughter I wouldn't chance it again because I was alone that day and fell on my face (was jogging) and had bruises and black eyes. I was out for a few seconds and awoke to a kind woman standing over me asking if I was okay. It was lucky that I slipped on ice and fell forward onto my hard head with sunglasses on. If I had fallen backward I could have broken a hip like such a typical old lady

Well, I'm exactly where I was last week. Sheesh, I'm so envious. We're the same height and age and started out at the same weight, but unlike you, I've not been able to stay down around 130. Hubby asked me about what is different when I mentioned this, and I said that the main difference seems to be that I sit at a desk for 10 hours a day. But I couldn't get him to agree that that's reason enough to ditch my job. LOL So, I'll celebrate for you and keep hoping for me.
We had a community service commitment last night and I had about 3000 steps to go when we got in at 10 p.m. Oh the temptation! But I hit the TM and finished up by jogging in place for a few hundreds steps watching the late news. And of course, the headlines on all stations is the big snow storm headed our way.
Hope everyone is doing okay. Kelly is on our side of the border with her man and having a great time, I'm sure. Lois and Light, I'm still sending get well thoughts your way. Hope you're coming 'round the bend.

Sarah, I'm sure that IS the reason, and you can tell your hubby I said so, haha! A desk job combined with a STRESSFUL job is so difficult. I think all working women do such an amazing job when they still find the time to take care of themselves. But, as women, we do hard things all the time. Look at what you have done, and what you ARE doing, and give yourself a big congratulations!!0

Thanks for the support and for the chuckle, Sheesh. It really helped.
Now for my bad news! I put my fitbit on the charger this morning while I was sitting anyway to work. And then my day exploded! I worked all day without a break. I had a 5:30 hair appointment and needed to leave about 5. I also had a report to turn in to the branch chief by COB. I was just finishing up around 5 p.m. and went to attach the report to my e-mail, and it had vanished. It took me until 5:25 to find that file. Then I stood up and raced out, asking hubby to call the salon to let them know I was on my way but would be late. From there, I went to a meeting, and when I arrived home at 10 p.m., I realized that my fitbit was still charging. I didn't wear it but a short time this morning and for a few minutes tonight. So I have less than 1800 steps for the entire day. Well, considering that I sat at a desk, in a salon chair, in a car, or at a table for most of the day, I probably would not have gotten a whole lot more than that had I had it on. But I'm bummed. My second day in 2016 to not make 10,000 steps. (My first was that day I feel asleep and missed it by 19 steps.) Maybe 2 out of 21 is not tooooo bad!)

Sarah, we FitBitters know your pain. Since you aren't on Facebook, you haven't seen this funny blog that Cheryl posted: (I hope the link works)

I hope you're stocked up with food and supplies, and are hunkering down ahead of that storm we are hearing about!0 -
Hubby started preparing on Tuesday! His work is in safety, so it's right up his alley. Cars have gas, snowblower has gas, generator has gas, house is full of food, there's kerosene and bottled gas for heaters, and gas for the camp stove Our generator is fairly small, but it will keep the frig and freezer running and power a few lights. It's supposed to be wet, heavy snow, so downed limbs often take out the power. We're getting robo calls from the power company warning us to stay away from downed power lines and to check on elderly neighbors.
The snow started several hours ago and it's pouring snow out there. I'm sure the mall will close soon, if it's not already closed, and that it won't reopen for several days. So if the power stays on, I'll be on the TM, and if not, I'll be stomping around the house!0 -
LOL re the link. Too funny and too real Hope all of you will be staying warm and safe during this winter storm. I need to go cover the plants and prepare the house for a freeze tonight. uggh. but at least it's better than what you all dealing with. Kelly, hope you are having a good time away
I am all better and back in the crazy business of life and work and trying to get in my exercise. Been pretty faithful with the exercise bike

TW 186.2 I'm ok with that. I had a lot of sodium with the crackers and broth this week and my weight shot up to 190 so it's good see it down to nearly real again. my water percent is still a bit high per the scale so I will just keep going0 -
Sheesh, the link was great! I'm not that bad, but I almost was when I got my first bodybugg. I think that my reaction to the shock of finding out how sendetary my lifestyle was/is. I say "is" because I have the same long hours, high-stress sit-down job, even though I move more because of this group.
I woke up to 22 inches of snow (we tend to get a lot more than they do in DC) and it's still pouring snow. Hubby actually put on neoprene waders (those boot/overall things that come up to the chest) for his first cut with the snowblower. Good thing he fly-fishes. His newer waders aren't neoprene, though, so he squeezed into an older pair. I called them his neoprene spanx!
Anyway, back to activity--I got very little again yesterday. The mall closed at 3 p.m. yesterday and will stay closed until further notice. I worked until 7:30 last night to deal with something for a state health dept. several time zones west of us, and by the time I had dinner and cleaned the kitchen, I was DONE. I returned some personal phone calls, took care of the kitties, and passed out until late this morning. I can't sleep in that long again though, or I'll die week after next when I have to roll out at 4 a.m.
Light, I'm glad that you're feeling better. It always seems to take a little extra time to get the body over the crackers and broth routine.0 -
28 inches. That's all I have to say at the moment. The snow plows tried to reach our street and gave up. The drifts are over my head. Thank goodness it's so cold that it's not too wet and heavy, so thus far, no power outages.0
-
Well I was wrong. The official count for Gaithersburg is 34 inches.
While hubby and a young man from down the street were clearing the area at the front to prevent ice dams on the roof, I made a womanly effort to get to the heat pump out back. A couple of times, I actually got stuck and wondered how long I might stay there until someone missed me. But I was able to finally make the target and clear the snow and I managed to not step into one of the window wells to the basement. That was a big fear. I don't think an ambulance could get into our cul-de-sac yet.
But mission accomplished, I came in and got out of my snow bibs and down coat only to discover that not much of that effort was reflected by my fitbit. Reminded me of that link, Sheesh, where the writer talks about non-step exercise. If I have the energy later, I'll get on the TM.0 -
Plows cannot make it in, so there are bobcats out there moving snow. The piles are probably 15 feet high. The neighborhood kids are beside themselves with the excitement of making snow forts out of those piles. Their moms are more concerned with the fact that the temps are in the single digits, risking small noses and fingers. Our thoughts of considering New England for retirement does not look so good after the past few days of trying to find energy and strength to deal with this. I did make it on the TM last night and got in more than 11,000 steps by days end. I figure the snow struggles that didn't seem to clock on my fitbit were just bonus calorie burn.
Where is everybody?????0 -
Sorry I've been out of touch. Been super duper busy with work and just plain fatigued when I get home. I spent most of last week in bed after work trying to feel better. Sat am we were supposed to be a taekwondo tournment at ASU and I had planned to walk the campus early morning before the compettion got going. Hubby had a different plan. AFTER I woke at 6am showered, AND did my hair and was just bout dressed, he advised me he didn't feel well and we weren't going to go. I coulda choked him. I woke way too early for a sat am feeling cruddy, but he waited until I had done all of that before sharing with me he didn't feel well. I crawled back into bed and slept until 10!! I guess I was still tired as well. Oh and I woke with a huge sty just below my right eye which is still bothersome. Hubby is not a physical motivator. I am awesome if I get out of the house before he wakes. If I don't, I rarely go. Just getting my 10k steps for the day was a huge challenge. Sunday I got up early and headed straight to the trail. Got 3.1 miles in to complete one of my virtual 5ks. That's about it. Eye still bothersome and dr. says to see him Tues/Wed if it hasn't cleared. Nothing but warm compresses will help. And I am blind so when I take my glasses off for the compress - I'm BLIND! So I don't want to complain anymore, but I am checking on your posts. Keep moving ladies....I will be better and will come back better and stronger than ever!!

Sarah, my gosh! You guys are buried in snow!! I hope the power stays on so you can do the treadmill, because it sounds like you're not going out any time soon. Take care.
Lois, all I can say is . . . men. I hope you, hubby, and your eye get better soon. Good work getting your 3.1 miles in on Sunday. I was so tired Sunday! I just rested all day. Hubby even made dinner for us (an extremely rare occurrence) and it was a pot roast, not take-out! He discovered allrecipes.com, lol. Maybe he'll cook more . . fingers crossed. Today I felt better, went to the gym, did interval training and back and biceps weights! What a difference a day of rest makes.
Have a good week, everyone.0 -
Lois, I just saw your 7-day average, and it looks like you are making up for lost time! Hope the eye gets better quickly.
I stayed on the TM through Biggest Loser tonight because I hardly got to move during the work day. I finally reached 12, 769 steps, came in to sync my fitbit, and it wouldn't sync. I was getting worried because there's a notice about a problem they're aware of with the Charge HR. But thankfully, I did a reset and it finally did sync.
Sheesh, hubby's who cook are good in some ways. Mine is a great cook, but gosh the messes he makes!
Hope everyone wakes up tomorrow feeling good.0
