Staying motivated:
Let's inspect the pattern of our excuses (or possibly what we call 'reasons')
These are referred to as Attributions. (ie, "To what do you attribute...")

Fundamental Attribution Error: The tendency for us to judge others by internal dispositions.
If I see someone doing crazy drive on the road I say, "That person is thoughtless, has some personal dysfunction, and is basically an *kitten*."

Actor Observer Effect: The tendency for us to judge ourselves by external situational factors.
So if I do crazy drive, I say, "I have to get my child to soccer, I have an important meeting to get to, I'm late because of traffic, or basically 'Thanks, Obama.'" Otherwise said, we have some special situation that is impeding us.

How this applies to health:
We look at healthy, fit people and think "Oh, they have a fast metabolism, they have that body type, they have a gene for it" or some other delusional INTERNAL reason. And we ignore the hard work, the daily grind, the good decisions and situations that person creates to achieve health.

Similarly, perhaps our lack of meeting our health goals is that we work weird hours, we travel too much, our family won't buy in, or we are too busy to eat Paleo and get to the gym (f@$k, I hate the busy excuse...like the rest of us are sitting around with our thumbs up our a$$es)

Both of those lead to...

The Self-Serving Bias:
the tendency to internalize success and externalize failure.
So, when we lose weight...we are a genius, and have a special gift of dedication!
If it doesn't work out for us...we were snowed in, it's a Leap Year, and MyFitnessPal sucks!

So what?

Do something you'd rather not do everyday.
See a positive future, don't ruminate on the past ("only a phool trips over what's behind him")
Be MFT

Happy Monday!

Yes. The Attributions. Makes one feel phoolish when we shine a light on it and hold it up to the mirror (and any other idiom you can think of about being honest).

But MFP kinda does rot in some ways. It told me my cookies yesterday were like 153 cals each! Pfft.
