We got a new freezer and I got a smokin' deal at the butcher in Topeka today! 5 lb pork sausage, 5 lb pork roast, 8 lb pork ribs, 12 lbs cut up fryers, 6 lbs whole fryers, 5 lb beef roast, 3 lb round steak, 2 lb cube steak, 3 lb beef ribs and 10 lbs of ground beef for only $84.95. That averages out to only $2.88 per lb. I also picked up a 4 lb slab of pork belly. We're gonna be living high on the hog (and cow...and chicken)!

I wonder if you get deals like this because you live in the cornbelt?

I'm not sure. That's quite possible. The price would have been even cheaper if I would have doubled the order. But my freezer wouldn't hold it all.

Moonius, you and I should be grateful we even HAVE access to a real butcher shop. They're getting as rare as blacksmiths. Between a family-owned butcher shop, a gigantic seafood market (in the same family since 1936) and a family-owned produce market, our not particularly large or affluent Florida town is sitting pretty.

@mandycat223 - That's one thing I miss about living in Florida is the seafood markets with fresh off the boat seafood!
