Core training - who does it?

I've read lots about core strength for swimming but never really thought about actually doing any core training until now.

Does anyone do it as part of their swim training, and if so, how often and what exercises?

I know that I should do this, but I don't. I am also interested in any exercises out there.

I do some every time I hot the weight room. Some days I do "beast mode core day."
On a cable weight station that has variable angle/height I do Lumber Jacks high to low both sides and then low to high. Rotation as well.
Back extension with plates. Dead lifts are awesome for core strength too.

I do. A lot. I know that when you hear "aqua aerobics," it sounds like old people playing volleyball. That's not my class. Not my instructor. She's from a PT background, so for her, form is of the most importance. That, in water, means "firing up your core," just trying to stay vertical. Add in 45 minutes of kick-butt cardio, and you work damn hard to stay in one place. At first, it's impossible. She reassures you: as your core gets stronger, you won't move around into other people's space as much. My core is stronger than ever. I also do planks and push ups. The real kind. Boy kind. I can't do many in a row, but before this class, I could do ONE.

I also do a yoga-y/dance/Nia class that has balance moves. And I trail run once a week. Both good for the core. So I don't hit the weight room (yet) for specific core exercises, but my core deliberately works 6/7 days a week. And it's damn strong

    I don't do dryland.

That doesn't mean I SHOULDN'T do dryland, just that I don't. If were doing what I should be doing, I'd be doing about fifteen minutes worth of bodyweight exercises every night that would include squats, dive-bombers, v-sits, and bridges from my martial arts days.

I ended up downloading an app and pulled out my swiss ball - very challenging! Have also dusted off my kettlebells so basically everything hurts today lol.

I kickboard a set of 10 X 25-frog kick (breast stroke) and 25-dolphin kick. The dolphin is basically my core training!

Dolphin kick is great for core training! I use the Nike + training app on my phone. They have tons of great workouts that last between 15 to 45 minutes and have beginner/interm/advanced levels. I love it.
I am toying with the idea of lifting but not quite there yet mainly because I can't figure out yet where to fit it into my schedule. Also I want to get a trainer or someone to help me with form. Last thing I need is an injury from not using proper form

I totally get that, @aliciamariaq ! I would love to lift heavy, but can't figure out where I would fit it in. AND, I don't want to get hurt, so just "starting a lifting routine" probably isn't the best idea for me without help.
@rosebarnalice , I throw dolphin kicks in there too. Holy hurting abs!! That's a workout! I am not 100% sure that I am doing it right. It sure takes me a long time to reach the other end of the pool...

Yup another dolphin kick person here. Yep workshop lot of that core!

However I now understand however that my (on off) shoulder issues are related to my having weak 'upper core under the shoulder muscles' - my right (dodgy) shoulder sticks its blade out, rather than being held close to the body by this muscle. So when it pulls in the water it is not really engaging the back muscles and is a) weaker pull b) more likely to get a shoukder injury. Common with us round shouldered, computer using, slumping posture, tense swimmer types... Go take a look at your back now!

So I have been told to do 'dart' Excercise core muscle work.

So I have a good rationale from an expert I trust, I have excercises, and ......I am absolutely failing to do them.

They involve putting your face down onto the floor/carpet. And I hate, hate....
