Finally Approved from band to sleeve.

It's taken three months and a complete "Come to God" with my dr's coordinator and my insurance company but now I can maybe get some pain relief. I have had my band for over eight years and it has begun to cause sever pain. At first doctors thought it was my heart, then they said it was gall bladder, finally they decided it was the band. First saw my bariatric doctor on Nov. 2nd. He recommended remove the band and do sleeve in one surgery. He wanted to do surgery ASAP. My insurance and his coordinator were not the one in pain so they treated my authorization like a routine revision. I was very patient at first, then annoyed and after my second trip to the emergency room from the pain, and a few blunt phone calls they got the point. Gee it only took three days after that. Sorry to be venting, happy to be moving forward. Still have to see the nut then start pre surgery diet All your support appreciated.

Congratulations! I am a band to sleeve revision as of 11/24/15. I had a band for almost 10 years. It got to a point where I couldn't eat. We went on vacation in July last year and I couldn't eat at all. I was able to drink water and eat frozen yogurt (bad but it was the only thing that would go down). I had enough and my doc was finally able to prove what was going on. I'm so glad it's gone. I feel so much better. I can eat food I haven't been able to eat in years. Just the other day I had 1/4 of a banana and I was in heaven. Healthy food and the band never agreed. I had my sleeve done in 1 surgery, fortunately the band didn't cause too much scar tissue.

Congrats! I am hearing more and more people having difficulties with the band. I originally wanted the band. I am grateful that my insurance co. does not cover the band and I had the sleeve to begin with. Sorry for both of you and the pain you have endured. Wish you the best of luck moving forward.0

Sometimes you have to have the "Come to Jesus" talk with others to get them to see your point of view and often it has to be done in a "blunt" manner.
I'm just glad to hear that they've approved your surgery and in such a short time ("only 3 days").
So vent all you want, that's what we're here for. We've got your back, cause we understand your pain and frustration.
