New to LC, questions about rapid loss

Hi! So, in the past I have gone completely off refined sugar and flour and lost weight, and it's always been good for me. I recently started eating properly again (which for me means the above), but what is new is that I also started watching my carbs to keep them under 100g. I had never done this before, as I would eat lots of fruit. Now I'm on day 12 and feel great, but have lost more than 5 kg in 12 days and am wondering if I should be doing something differently.

I'm171cm and 81 kg (today) and completely sedentary due to car accident injuries. My goal weight is 64 kg, since I have a very small frame. MFP calculated 1200 cal a day for me, which suits me just fine.

My question is, is it bad to drop this much this quickly? Is this typical for low-carb? Should I do something differently?

Thanks for any help!

I wouldn't say typical. It's possible. It happens to many. Others, it takes longer to see losses on the scale. It all depends on the person.

That said, though, the body science behind cutting carbs causes your body to burn through the excess sugars stored in your body and this releases water you have been retaining.

It happens, OP, and you are fine. You will not continue to lose at that rate. As the excess water is lost, weight loss will slow.

0.5 to 1kg a week is what is percieved in popular press for normal Diets. However, here folk cheerfully share stories of 3kg a week which is in your range. Rapid start then more steady lower rate loss is normal. Perhaps you are Lucky I guess. One person was disappointed when they failed to achieve 15lbs, 6.8kg in a week or two. Hollywood hype sets unrealistic expectations?

Me I lost 5kg in first month then have varied from nothing to 5kg in a month. I am shorter and weigh less than you when I started and now. Thus I perceive you are safe (water loss) but if it keeps going too quickly and worries you please seek a professional view point. Congrats on a great start. Stay healthy.

Completely normal. As others have hinted at, much of it is water loss, and the rate will slow. If you feel any signs of light-headedness, headaches, brain fog, or fatigue, don't panic. Those are also symptoms of water loss, and they can be quickly cured with increased sodium intake.

I wonder how much is due to reduced inflammation as well?

I made the same post about a month into a very LCHF diet. Everyone one was right. It is just a really nice perk of eating his way. :) I was told to enjoy it while it lasts, and I did. ;)

Congrats on your success so far.

Yes, I hadn't thought of that! Could be!

Oh, that's good to hear. I feel like I'm doing everything right, so I guess what's coming off is what needs to, whether it's water or whatever. Thanks :)

You are doing great! It will slow over time. I agree with @auntstephie321, that some of the weight could definitely be decreased inflammation!
