1 month on Keto

So I am 1 month in and so far I am 15lbs down and my heart palpitations have dissapeared. I have more energy during the day but I find it really hard to get out of bed in the morning, I was thinking maybe it´s from the magnesium I take the night before, making me relaxed, I don´t know.
I love all the food and I have had no cravings apart from this last weekend, I made a keto mug cake and used splenda, maybe this made me crave more!
I am super strict and pre plan my meals ahead so I know what I am eating, loving it so far! keto on!

You're doing fantastically! Heart palpitations was what motivated me too. Tbh I'm nearly convinced it was low magnesium, but I definitely needed to lose weight. Not sure why low carb would make it hard to get out of bed, but maybe you are just zooming around during the day so much you are more tired?0

Congrats on the 15 pounds!!! Sorry I have no idea on the morning issue.0

Ha yeah maybe, I´m alright once I´m up. Maybe it´s because I am sleeping so much better!0 -
If you're waking up to an alarm, you may be waking at a point during sleep when you're in more sound sleep state.
I've used a phone app called Sleep Cycle for years to wake me. Your phone sits on your mattress somewhere (not under your pillow) and you set the alarm for latest time you can possibly wake up and the app will sense your movements and wake you up to 30 minutes before your set time based on when you are already in a lighter sleep state. Since I got a Jawbone fitness tracker, I've been using the one in their app which works the same way but I think it senses my movement better.
You wake up much more refreshed. Even when it has woken me up the full 30 minutes early, I didn't even notice since I wasn't in sound sleep anyway. When I first started using it I thought there was no way I was going to like losing any sleep time, but it really does work and you wake up feeling more rested simply because of waking at the right point in your sleep cycle.0 -
@Sunny_Bunny_ You have SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE! Have you ever thought of writing or teaching?0
-
Wow! Thank you! But I'm just a curious person and like to try new things. Plus I really try to listen to others when they share and I trust their understanding of things.
I literally learned that stuff about sleep from the sleep cycle app and then I've also come across more info saying the same thing over the years. Even Dave Asprey talks about it too.0 -
I am on my second month of Keto - and in January I lost nearly 13 lbs a record for me. However, in my second month I am at a standstill. I have cut out sugar, flour, potatoes, and am low carb - Not sure what's going on - but I've not cheated - even through Valentine's day. So, it's a disappointing turn of events. I keep thinking if I'm not eating carbs - eventually the pounds need to drop. I have noticed some of my clothes are looser....but the scale is being very stubborn....any suggestions?

You're doing great. Throw the scale away if it's making you second guess yourself. How your clothes fit is what really matters. Another thing, every person and every body is different. Start doing some of your own body hacking. Is there something in your diet you could live without, cut that out for a couple weeks and see if the scale budges. If not, try something else. I recommend making sure your protein count isn't too high. I'm 6'0" and very active and I only keep around 100grams of protein a day even though they say a gram per lb is fine, I don't want the protein to possibly turn into glucose because that's what I'm trying to eliminate!!
Good Luck!0 -
@gettinfit320, stalls are the way it goes for some of us. I had a stall from June 1 through September I had no new weight loss on the scale!! OMG! I came very close to throwing in the towel! But, I realized I was losing inches, and during that time I lost 4 inches off my waist, and I was feeling so good! I knew I was doing the right thing, with no cheats! Very frustrating, but I'm sooooo glad I stayed the course, because I have been rewarded with better health than I ever recall having which has become my primary focus with this woe! I still hate the scale, but it's not what I have based my motivation on.
I'm not saying this will happen to you, I'm just giving you an example of how extreme a stall can be, yet still have positive results from it. I look at them now as "healing pauses". I figured my body needs time to fix something, and stops taking the time to drop weight as it does! I always come out better on the other side, as long as I stay on plan!
Hang in there!!0 -
I LOVE THAT. Healing Pauses. That's great.0

Thanks @Sunny_Bunny_ I´ll check it out!
I really should measure myself now too, haven´t done that yet.0 -
I'm finding that I absolutely have to wear the support / compression stockings to cut down on the edema / swelling in my lower legs. Water retention. Balancing act between enough sodium and too much. I feel better with a little more than my legs like. Ugh! Love the idea of "healing pauses",too.0

@PeculiarLou I feel the same way you do. Feel free to add me as a friend.... I'm looking for low carb friends to motivate me on this journey!! I'm 3 1/2 weeks in and lost 10lbs the first two weeks then gained 2 back, so the scale is in the closet... I measured my self and will only weigh once a week or so! My clothes are looser and I have not cheated once!!! I measure and log everything and am even doing 45 min a day on the elliptical!! I've gotten some great support from here and it has kept me going!! I would just love to see the scale move at some point!!!
@Karlottap love the "healing pauses" that will be my motto!!! Thanks for sharing!!!0 -
Love Keto and Keto loves me back.0

Girl!!!! I have two small kids. I am always freaking tired. I got that app and I woke up this morning feeling ready to go instead of resetting my alarm a million times. I am amazed

@Jan93L Be sure to get your thyroid numbers checked. I found out in the last six months that swelling/edema almost always starts with the thyroid long before it's a heart issue. Sodium only comes into play (for most people) AFTER other factors.0 -

I was amazed too! I really thought I would hate it if it woke me up earlier but I didn't because I actually felt better!
Love that thing!
So glad it worked just as well for you!0 -
@Karlottap Thanks so much for the advice - I know my clothes are fitting better - but oh so frustrating. But good to know - I keep saying I'm not quitting! But it sure is tough to be doing the work and the scale not budging. I guess I need to measure myself too... Thanks again for healing pauses!

Thanks for this info I'm going to check this app out. I've always struggled with alarms even though sometimes ill wake up earlier on my own and feel great.

just looking for the positive in a negative situation!
Since being keto I can't remember the alarm clock waking me more than a few times! I wake up awake, if that makes sense! I don't experience the groggy feeling I used to have when waking up!0 -

@Karlottap This for me, too, once I got my thyroid medicine adjusted again... That and I find that getting up is easier some mornings than other, but if I know I have a little "putz around" time before having to function fully, it's easier to get upright. LOL And that's saying something for me, the anti-morning person. LOL0 -

Yep, I am a month is as well, and have lost about 5" from my waist.0 -
I'm jealous if the inches. After month one I lost 4 inches from all over. I'll be checking after month two but not holding my breath. I've lost nothing these two months. Literally. I'm very discouraged.0

Just keep going. I had a day where I woke up 6 pounds more than the day before, and then 2 more pounds the next dat! But I kept at it and good things are happening.0 -
Wow, that's great!0
