Just heading back home from being out of state and I can feel a sore throat coming on. I don't know if it's a cold or sinuses but I normally suck on cough drops. I just looked up carbs and it says 4?? Wondering what everyone else does when they are sick, I take it taking NyQuil is out of the question too lol

Cold and flu tablets/pills. I avoid all syrups (there are diabetic ones but they taste horrible) and drops. That, fluids, and rest.

I can't remember the last time I was sick. I believe in high dose vitamin c and take 6000mg a day as a maintenance dose. If I were to feel sick, I would bump that up to about 9000mg, but I've never had to.

I'm just now finishing antibiotics from my sinusitis. It began as a scratchy throat, then within two day symptoms warranted an antibiotic :mask: . Now hubby is coughing! I do take vitamin c and haven't been since for a very long time. This little bug I picked up was pretty tough!
    Feel better!

Is there any drops or the like we can have?

You might be able to find some sugar free cough drops, ask a pharmacist if you don't see them. You know about the sweeteners, so I'm not going to warn you about those. I came very close to looking for them for myself, but made it without them, thankfully.

I tend to use a lot of Oregano oil which seems to make colds shorter and less severe. I also use homeopathic remedie: coryzalia, sinusalia, and influzium. They either really help with congestion or they are an excellent placebo. Either way it works for me.

    Feel better soon.

@ettaterrell ugh I haven't even looked at the nutrition info on the sugar-free ones. There are times when nothing else will do, and I've been sick a lot this winter.

@nvmomketo how do you use the oregano oil? (I have it; just curious. I haven't used it much. I do have a flu bomb roller I use on the bottoms of my feet at times, or Onguard.)

I worked with a family physician who would take Echinacea at the onset of any type of cold symptoms. I figured he's been in practice longer than I've been alive, so he must believe in it! Lots of water and rest too!

Lots of vitamin C, gargle with straight lemon juice, drink apple cider vinegar straight, and lots of hot tea with throat soothing ingredients (licorice root, slippery elm, and ginger).

I buy the gel capsules. Taking it any other way is too overpowering for me.

    How are you feeling?

I use Diabetes Tussin, God all full stuff, but it works.
Watch how many sf cough drops you eat or you'll
    wind up on the toilet.

For the last 30 or so years I make what I call "THE CURE". Fill blender with Jalapenos, a couple cloves of garlic then fill blender the rest of the way with vinegar. Blend until smooth then let sit in the coldest part of the refrigerator for a few hours.
Eat with tortilla chips or pork rinds if you want to keep it low carb. I keep dipping until my forehead starts sweating and my nose and eyes are watering. Then go blow your nose and wash your face with cold water and the cold or flu is gone for good.
My wife thinks I'm crazy but in 15 to 30 minutes I'm finished with the cold usually for the rest of the year. She on the other hand would rather suffer with the cold for several days taking all kinds of garbage from the drug store and repeating several bouts during the cold and flu season. I like this so much I usually keep a big jar in the refrigerator all the time for "emergency's" :*
For a quick version just get a big jar of sliced nacho jalapenos (the hottest version the store has). Dump the jar into your blender then pour out most of the liquid. Start blending and add some of the liquid back until you have a runny salsa texture. Your ready to go get well.
If you like hot sauce this will cure just about anything. Give it a try, all you have to lose is your cold.

Thayer's slippery elm lozenges. Apparently they make a sugar free version with .15 carb each. I have tried the regular ones and they work well. Now, if I can find them in sugar-free....

I found some dollar general sugar free that scanned with my phone as 0 carbs but I don't think I trust it because they really weren't bad at all. I also took Tylenol cold and flu and it really helped with sore throat!! Thanks everyone I'm feeling almost normal today...
