Keto flu......again?

I've been playing with my carbs for the last few months trying to break out of a plateau. Once I finally saw a loss I stuck to 20 gr or less. It's almost been 2 weeks, and today I feel horrible. I'm dizzy, have a headache and just feel wiped out, no energy to work out. I've been drinking around 18 cups of water daily too, I guess that's diluting my electrolytes even more. I drank some broth today, it's been a very long time since I felt like this...I forgot how long it last for. Is it usually a few days?

It'll pass faster if you keep your sodium up.

@auntstephie321 , thanks, I drank chicken broth today. I forgot to get pickles from the grocery store, I remember drinking the juice helped before. What have potassium and magnesium supplements, just haven't used them in a long time. I will tomorrow with lunch though..

You can get "Keto flu" over and over again since it's simply the electrolyte balance. Sodium dips too low... Magnesium and potassium go... You increase sodium, but magnesium and potassium will take longer to come back up on their own. Especially magnesium since it's pretty scarce in food these days anyway and you need sooooo much of it.

About 5 minutes in my experience. Sodium works quickly.

I'm knocking on wood as I say this :) but.... I don't think I have experienced the "keto flu" at all. I'm into my 3rd week now and I always keep my total carbs below 30 and about half the time below 20. I have no access to any potassium or magnesium supplements over here and get almost no "green" anything. Lots of eggs, butter, meat, cream cheese and blue cheese. I've always been a salt fiend and I drink lots of water so that must be doing something. Or am I not in ketosis? I'm pretty sure I've gotten the "keto breath" as I don't remember it being like this before, lol. I don't want this "flu" but I worry that I might not be in ketosis. My food diary should be open if anyone wants to look and see if I'm doing something incorrect. I work 12+ hour days 6 days a week but I'm actually a lot less stressed this rotation & getting more sleep than I usually do.

It's completely avoidable if you keep salt intake high enough. Maybe you're achieving that.
But I'm a big advocate for magnesium for anyone no matter how they eat. Maybe you can order it.
And potassium may be available as a salt substitute at your grocery store. They make these special salts for people that try to avoid salt... The contents are potassium chloride. A couple of brands call it NuSalt, LoSalt or Lite Salt. Maybe those are available? But still keep using your salt. Don't actually substitute with the potassium, just use it too. If you can find it...

I must be getting enough salt then. My wife says I'd put salt on salt, lol. I can't follow through on the suggestions because I'm overseas in an area with no access to grocery stores or mail delivery. I'm lucky just to have the food items that are available. I definitely plan to bring some vitamin supplements back with me once I get my next vacation (several months from now).

Kept doing what you're doing then. It's clearly been enough so far.

I'm over a month into Keto, and I still get the headaches just about everyday. Very frustraing but I know it's a salt issue and since my body doesn't retain salt I just take an Advil with lunch. Not a great solution but it seems to work.

I went through some really bad headaches at about six weeks into this woe! I began sipping pickle juice when they start and it usually takes care of it pretty quickly.

Good luck @Jbarnes1210 !! I hope it passes soon!

I feel much better today. I'm trying not to forget to drink the broth and take the supplements. It's not fun to be dizzy.
