Welcome to the official start of the Walking Dead Challenge.

Your goal every week is to earn a maximum of ten points for you and your team. You'll get one point for each day you stick to your own program/habit/goal and three bonus points can be earned through doing weekly challenges based on the show.

WEEK ONE

Bonus Point Challenge
#1

Valentines Day was Michonne's birthday! Read how Danai Gurira stays strong and balanced. How she makes time for a workout and what workouts she does, and then post on your team thread what YOUR plan is to stay strong and balanced through the next eight weeks.
http://www.self.com/fashion/celebrity/2015/02/walking-dead-danai-gurira-balanced-body/
Value: One point.

Bonus Point Challenge #2
What an explosive episode!

Give me fuel, gimme fire! Work out your upper body with this Metallica song at least once this week. https://youtu.be/xsg0CZn6ems
Value: One Point

Bonus Point Challenge #3
Complete the below challenge based on the character you chose to follow.

Rick: Rick had to do some axe work this episode. Add this dumbbell woodchop exercise into your strength routine this week. http://youtu.be/tH8ZeVgupYY

Daryl: Daryl certainly made the first 5 minutes a very tense and explosive moment. Zumba along to Boom Boom Pow at least once this week. http://youtu.be/RtZop9VA9Uc

Carl If Carl survives, he may have to wear a stylish pirate eye patch. Walk the plank at least once this week. http://youtu.be/tH8ZeVgupYY

Eugene: Eugene had the best line of the whole episode. "No one gets to clock out today. Hell, this is a story people are gonna tell." So add thsee Clock.Jumps into your cardio routine, three times this week. https://youtu.be/75b-MxoEMvE

Glenn, Morgan, Carol, Michonne and Rosita spent much of the episode slashing, stabbing and skewering zombies. Work on your own upper body speed, strength and endurance with this cardio kickboxing video from fitnessblender https://youtu.be/4MhuPWGa3Eg

Maggie is still trapped on the platform. Prepare to be rescued by doing this climbing video from Fitnessblender once this week. https://youtu.be/6F66ikdYmA4

Jessie: Alas for the players who chose Jessie. Choose another female character to follow and then do any challenge posted on here twice.

Judith: Learn the Take Me to Church line dance and do it once this week.
https://youtu.be/Qx2-UeNlExs

Value: One Point

Remember to keep track of your points and to post them on the Gore Card next weekend before the show airs Central time.

The Winners and Walkers thread will be updated next Monday night with the results. Until then rankings are just alphabetical.

Have a great week everyone.

Hi. I would like to do the Character Carol challenge this week however it involves 1 minute of jump roping or jumping jacks. I am unable to perform those due to a medical issue. Can I use my elliptical or march in place for that 1 minute instead and still qualify for the challenge?

You bet! You can always modify or even substitute any challenge exercise with whatever you feel will give you the same benefit.

So glad to hear this. I have limited internet, so unable to download multiple videos. Was wondering if I could use similar videos I own, when posted videos are large downloads. ☺

    Week Two Challenge

    Bonus Point Challenge
    #1

Orange Crush, Kit Kats and Mints.

In this episode we saw Rick and Daryl indulging in pop and chocolate. In real life both Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus keep those foods to a minimum. They plan meals ahead, cook for themselves, have smaller portions and try to avoid foods that they may overindulge on.

    http://fitdadchris.com/norman-reedus-likes-stay-fit/

     http://www.eatthis.com/how-andrew-lincoln-stays-fit-enough-to-slay-zombies

Tell your team your strategy for eating healthier.
Do you enjoy everything in moderation or have you eliminated some things from your diet? Have you found healthier swaps for some high calorie treats that you used to have or do you just have smaller portions of them?
There's no right or wrong answers here. The right answer is whatever you've found to be sustainable and keeps you on track.

    Bonus Point Challenge #2
Cardio. Rick and Daryl spent most of the episode in a full run.
Do this HIIT The Ground Running Workout once this week. Or a similarly challenging alternative of your choice.
    http://youtu.be/H1GDPNYTpqA

    Bonus Point Challenge #3

    Rick and Michonne:
Hmmm. Interesting. Try this Sexercise at least once this week. http://youtu.be/bnLD-1voSLg

Daryl: "Jesus" probably saved Daryl's life by getting Daryl to quickly duck down. Try this Squat Challenge that we do on every Walking Dead Challenge season. http://youtu.be/pCy_BSLqN8g

Eugene: Eugene looks as of he's been in the gym working on his calves. Find some stairs and follow along to strengthen your calves at least once this week. http://youtu.be/USJ-gurIdlM

Carol, Carl, Glenn, Maggie, Judith and Rosita appeared briefly or not at all this episode, so join Daryl in the Squat Challenge or do Rick and Michonne's Sexercise video.

Remember to keep track of your points and to post them on the Gore Card next weekend before the show airs Central time.

The Winners and Walkers thread will be updated on Monday night with the results.

Lol. Yep. It was interesting. I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't see that coming.

    Week Three Challenge

    Bonus Point Challenge
    #1 - All Players

    Abraham's A'ha Moment

In this episode we saw Abraham come to a life changing decision after he was nearly strangled to death.

Tell your team what made you decide that you need a healthier lifestyle. Was it one moment like Abraham's experience or was it a decision you made over time?

Bonus Point Challenge #2 - All Players

Maggie had to do some tough negotiating and make some pretty big promises in exchange for some vitamins, fruits, vegetables and grains. Luckily, those foods are a lot more accessible for us but, this week, ask yourself if you are getting enough of them? Are you eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables and getting enough fiber and micronutrients? If not, start working on incorporating more into your diet this week.

Bonus Point Challenge #3 - All Players

Maggie promised Gregory that they would take care of Negan and rescue Craig.

No matter what character you chose, you are in for a fierce battle in the weeks ahead. Get prepared by doing this 17 minute kickboxing self defense video. This one is for beginners, feel free to do a more difficult one in the series or substitute it with another similar workout. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tMXDis6MS6g

    Week Four Challenge

    Bonus Point Challenge
    #1 - For 1 Point-All Players

    Carol's Beet and Acorn Cookies

This week, Carol made a tasty cookie out of unusual but healthy ingredients. Share one of your own unusual recipes or strategies that you use to make a high calorie food healthier.

Bonus Point Challenge #2: For 2 Points - All Players

It is very likely that many of the characters will have to lay down their weapons and fight with their bare hands to rescue the hostages.

So, choose a cardio workout video like this one that will give you not only a good workout, but will allow you to practice your combat skills. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pWLEkO0MlXs

My " beet challenge" tip is to use non fat greek yogurt in place of sour cream and even cream cheese. I have others and most of you probably have heard this one already but it's something I do nearly every day!

    Week Five Challenge

    Bonus Point Challenge
    #1 - For 1 Point-All Players

This week Carol and Maggie were in quite a bind and Carol struggled with the morality of killing, especially someone she considered a kindred spirit.

Share with your team, one thing that has made you struggle the most on your health and fitness journey and how you've overcome it or how you plan to overcome it.

Bonus Point Challenge #2 - For 2 Points - All Players
Try a HIIT workout this week like this one. Or something that is equally as challenging.

Week Six Challenge - Happy Easter

     All Players

    Bonus Point #1
While your Easter dinner is cooking, (or at any other convenient time)  work out your upper body and core with this rotisserie workout:
    https://youtu.be/oOvo2PDmL0E

    Bonus Point #2

In memory of Denise: sharpen your machete swinging skills by learning to do a dumbbell woodchop and add it to your strength routine this week.

    https://youtu.be/tH8ZeVgupYY

    Bonus Point #3.

Burn off those chocolate rabbits and eggs, and get hopping with this fun Fitnessblender video. When I say Jump. http://youtu.be/dlOayNdj_P0

As always, feel free to substitute a similar workout if your choice for any or all of the above options
