wanting to try a new coffee, currently we use Folgers Colombian. I'm interested in trying a specialty coffee but don't want to spend the money on something that sucks and just waist it. So what's your favorite brand and flavor. Also I've seen some flavored coffees like fruit flavored? Are those more carbs?

I'm a Starbucks girl and I like my coffee dark, but not burned (their French Roast is a bit too much for me). My fav is the Verona, second fav is the Sumatra, and I'm always happy to grab a bag of house blend if the other two are unavailable.0

At Starbucks I've only tried Sumatra so far. It's my new favorite.
I have a coffee roaster near me, but they are only open to the public one day a week for 4 hours! I can't seem to make it there. I can buy online from them, but they have tastings when they are open and I want to do that so bad!
Starbucks has great info on their site about their different varieties. I'll see if I can get you a link to the one I was browsing.

Here ya go.

I have a Keurig so I buy k-cups mostly. I like the Green Mountain ones a lot. The dark magic is good. Right now I have a fair trade organic Sumatra blend that's nice. Honestly I like the Dunkin Donuts coffee too.
As for flavors I used to only like flavored coffee but now they gross me out. I guess my tastes changed. From what I could tell they don't have any extra carbs. It's mostly undisclosed natural and artificial flavorings added.
For my espresso machine I like Lavazza and Trader Joe's Five Country Espresso blend. Sadly I don't have a TJ's locally so I only buy that when I'm out of town.
I don't think I have a refined coffee palate so I'm sure other people will have better recommendations. lol0 -
I use a kuerig too but I use the refillable cups. I always liked them better since I like a stronger coffee. I couldn't seem to find any k cups I ever liked.0

Illy. It's just so smooth and never bitter or burned.0

Verena Street coffee I found at Sam's Club this weekend. It's so yummy!0

My absolute favorite is a local, small batch roaster here in Columbus, Ohio called Thunderkiss -- http://www.thunderkisscoffee.com/
A very close second is Sunergos Coffee, which is a semi-local and larger roaster, down in Louisville, KY -- http://www.sunergoscoffee.com/
I definitely recommend checking out your local hipster coffee joints and see what roasters they use and see if you can find some good local roasters. The coffee is so much better than the stuff you find in the grocery stores. Like, completely different league.0 -
Starbucks coffee tastes burned and sometimes bitter to me, but please do not tell anyone I said that because I live in Seattle. I prefer Gevalia.0
-
I like Gevalia too. I used to do the monthly ordering thing when it wasn't in stores here. lol0
-
Ok those that use Starbucks are u referring to the ones in bags at grocery stores or at the actual Starbucks? What in the world is a roaster? I need to look into this stuff lol
Is there a certain gevalia I should try?
0 -
I bought my Starbucks at their store. I don't know if the grocery store ones would be any less fresh. But I would assume not. It's nice to have the barista grind it all for you though.
I used to like the Gevalia espresso roast, until I discovered others.0 -
@ettaterrell I buy from the actual Starbucks store now as not many grocery stores in Scotland sell Starbucks. But when I lived in the US they always had a good Starbucks selection at my grocery store, I shopped at Safeway.0

At home, I only use starbucks house roast, kcups. If I want coffee on the go, Caribou Americano. Caribou's regular coffee has fruity undertones which I dont appreciate

My work supervisor turned me on to Seattle's Best by saying it's the same thing as Starbucks bagged coffee, just labeled differently for a lower price. I've been using Seattle's Best Number 4 ever since then (I like strong dark coffee). I get it on sale, usually, for I think it's $4.99 a bag. I love how when I open the bag it smells slightly like dark chocolate. Yum. Once in a while I'll buy a bag of Starbucks coffee just for the extra Starbucks Rewards point, but only if it's on sale. LOL. Unlike other commenters, I do not like Gevalia at all at all at all. But I won't judge y'all.
ETA: I don't like flavored coffee, so I don't concern myself with whether or not there are more carbs in it. Sorry I'm no help there.0 -
Trader Joe's French Roast0

Depends on your taste. I think there is a tone to coffee gevalia, McDonald's etc has that I can't stand.
I love Starbucks cafe Verona (cocoa notes), caribou dark, and I know people who love gevalia usually can't stand them!0 -

I'm so sad!!! I sent my husband to Starbucks today to get a bag of beans and accidentally told him to get Verdana instead of Verona. They are like polar opposites!! This stuff is disgusting ☹0 -

Lol I drink Verona every morning. Is verdana a blond roast?0 -
Starbucks Veranda Blonde Roast using a French press. Lighter roast, but great flavor and the press keeps the acid low. It's really the only coffee I can drink regularly. My gastro turned me onto French press and it's been heaven.0

Sorry if this is a dumb question I'm just starting to learn about coffees but what is the difference between a French press and a normal coffee pot?
I tried the Sumatra (Starbucks brand) and neither husband nor I liked it, maybe I'm adding to much coffee? I did heaping Tbs for each cup. How much coffee to water ratio do you use? I will try the Verona next.0 -
French press is a glass pot you put coffee grounds in, you pour hit water in and let it sit then you push the mesh screen filter down to strain the grounds out. It makes a super smooth delicious cup of coffee.
You are probably using too much, tastes vary but I do six tbsp for about ten cups. You might have to monkey with it to get what you like.0 -
Community brand Coffee & Chicory. My wife's family that all hail from New Orleans and Batton Rouge introduced it to me in the mid 80's and have loved it ever since.

My husband has done the same!

Lately I've been drinking New Englands Best breakfast blend as I prefer a lighter roast. I like Cafe Brit too. I get it off Amazon in different regional flavors. Just started using a French press a few weeks ago and I'm never going back. Smooth and I love the slight froth it makes.0

This isn't "coffee"? but my favorite is a Cafe Americano from The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf - in my opinion, they're better than Starbucks, in terms of the quality of their stuff, at least for this drink. I have one every day, with a bit of milk and Splenda.0

If you don't enjoy a dark roast, try the Verdana next time. It's a blonde (very light) roast. If I was closer, I'd trade you my bag of nasty weak Verdana for your super yummy Sumatra lol
The Verona you mentioned is another one of Starbucks dark roasts, like the Sumatra. So easy to mix up Verdana and Verona!0 -
