Feeling really despondant - too much fat

It seems as though I've been doing it all wrong.
After reading info on a keto diet group, I raised my protein.
Now learn that my fat intake is way too high.
I could cry that I've wasted these months getting it so wrong :'(

This obsession with macros is stressful and counter-productive.

What were your macros before? What are they now?

Why do you think you were doing it wrong?

I have 1500 calories, under 20g carbs, was on 70-80g protein, but just raised to 115g, some days 70-80g fat and some could be 100-120g fat.
I'm vegetarian, so it's hard to strike the balance between very low carb, enough protein and now I've been told my fat is way too high to loose weight (although I loose 1-2lb per week).
I just deflated me like a popped balloon. There are so many different versions of ' right', and so many experts - is easy to feel lost and demoralised.
Maybe I'm just being a bit weak and whiney today.

Either set of those numbers is fine. Ignore people who tell you that you are doing it wrong. You are fine. There is no such thing as too much fat, unless you really weren't losing weight for months.

Whoever told you that is wrong. You have not wasted time, have you lost any weight? You can't believe what everyone tells you but there is no reason eating the amount of fat you are eating would prevent you from losing weight.

I just checked my log and I average 120-140g of fat each day.

I just read your other statement and you said you are losing 1-2 lbs / wk.

Do you see how that negates what this other person told you? Be confident in what your are doing it seems to be working based on your results. Don't let others who clearly do not know what they are taking about, make you feel like you are doing something wrong.

I started in October and have probably lost 2 or 2.5 stone.
I got panicky that my weight loss was going to grind to a halt, so I might as well have a cake. (I didn't have a cake!)

You are doing amazing! We all have slow downs in weight loss sometimes it stops for weeks at a time then starts falling off again. Keep focused, there is nothing wrong with your macros.

Oh hugs to you! I think the biggest challenge in this way of eating is learning how to FEEL what is right. I do log my food and pay attention to macros, but I think of those actions like they have been my training wheels. When I take off the training wheels, how do I feel? Am I physically hungry? Am I emotionally hungry? Do I feel nourished?

You are doing great - just focus on how you feel and ignore outside comments. Everyone thinks they are an expert, yet you are the one and only expert on YOU!

You're doing just fine. Your fat and protein are about like mine. I've been steadily averaging about 100g fat and 65-70g protein a day for over 10 months now. Sometimes protein is as low as 40g, but other times it's higher.
I have definitely had a scale weight loss slow down, but I have not had a fat loss slow down. They are entirely different things. I don't why. They just are. I know it doesn't make sense and that's why this is such a constant hurdle for all of us. Seriously, the "what am I doing wrong, weight loss has slowed/stopped" is neck and neck on the board right with "why do I feel bad". Lol
It's normal for it to slow down. It's normal for it to stop at times or appear to stop because it's going so slow. Scale weight that is. Not to be confused with progress. They are not the same thing.

Its what works for you that matters. Personally I try to eat 5% carbs, 15% protein and 80% fat. Why? Because I'm not trying to keepa very high calories deficit (only about 200-300 cals per day deficit) so I try to eat around 1800-1900 calories per day (doesn't always work because my appetite has vanished). I get adequate protein for my body and the extra calories are all in fat. And Im losing. 7 lbs so far in 2.2 weeks and I know its not just water because my body fat % has decreased.

Keep on trucking! Listen to your body.

I know I've eaten too much protein if my carbs are super low yet I feel hungry. Fat is where the full comes from.

Like others have said with diet, make an adjustment macro wise, kcal wise, food choice wise, volume wise, etc. & stick with it 2 weeks. Ask yourself whether your intervention was effective based on objective (weight, waist circumference, #BMs, etc.) & subjective (feelings, bloating, lightheadedness, energy, etc.) data. Then build on that

    1 change at a time!

I agree with the others. Don't let people try to tell you you're doing it wrong if you feel good and are getting good results!

Thanks for your words of encouragement to get me back on track mentally and remind me not to listen to dogmatic people who think their way is the only was.
