Finally had a craving I could NOT resist...

and had a salad yesterday - it was the crisp romaine and tomatoes that I couldn't resist. Very little of that crisp, light crunchy mouthfeel in the lacto-ovo-vegetarian-keto diet foods available.

It brought my day totals to 41g total carbs and 25g net carbs, which is higher than I'd been in a while. It felt very odd, feeling that familiar and yet ridiculous shame and regret that comes with breaking a diet protocol, from a salad.

Lately, I've been well under 20g total carbs each day, so I was quite worried about what this might do to my ketosis state. Took a blood test this morning, and I'm at 2.7, which is fine, but my question is, how soon after an over-indulgence might it show up in my ketones?

I've been wondering for a while now what you eat as a lacto-ovo-vegetarian-keto, if even salads are "off limits".
I've read quite a bit about eco-atkins etc., but admit I can't quite picture 20grams on a vegetarian diet.

What do you eat? (sorry to not answer your question, as I'm not keto, I can't really assist)

I eat salads quite often. I don't worry if the thing that caused me to go over carbs is vegetables.
Salads are totally ok for Keto
If it were to affect ketones, it would have done it within a couple hours.
I'm not sure why you think a big salad isn't ok.

:) That's a good craving to give in to. Your carbs were a bit higher than you wanted but it is still very low carb. Worst case scenario, you retain a bit of water and use less ketones for a few hours. Best case scenario, you enjoyed the salad.

25 net carbs is really good. Surprisingly low for a vegetarian. Sounds like you are doing amazingly well at staying very low carb!

Shamed of it but I caved in to carbs and just ate 3 large strawberries. :)

I agree with Sunny_Bunny_ carbs from vegies and salads are always welcome in my diet, but to moderation, not to excess. There are far too many other benefits (micro nutrients and fibre) from eating that way. I think if asked to classify my diet it would be Primal Lo Carb - eating as much natural foods as I can, but still restricting calories.
