We have probably all been told that drinking enough water is essential for one's health. However, many people actually don't appreciate the importance of water. Water has many benefits. Of course, water helps you lose weight. But that's not all. Water boosts your energy, it lowers stress, nourishes the skin, prevents dry mouth, keeps your body cool, cleans toxins from the body, helps the muscles and joints, and reduces the risk of some diseases! So, water truly is precious; nowadays we live in a world full of soft drinks, energy drinks, alcohol, that we forget about the value of water. So how much water should you drink everyday? For women it should be around 9 glasses a day, for men around 13. About 2-3 liters everyday. I think that I do fulfill this amount on some days, however there are days where I literally don't drink any. I will try to change that and drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Water is important for keeping you hydrated, but there are foods that can keep you hydrated as well! These include cucumbers, lettuce, radishes, celery, tomatoes, green peppers, cauliflower, watermelon and more. These all are made up of more than 90% water.0

Staying hydrated has a plethora of benefits, as our entire body relies on it for sustenance. It nourishes skin-our largest organ- and helps to regulate body temperature through sweat. It can aid in appetite management and higher metabolism which in turn lead to weight loss. Muscle efficiency increases as water is used to help transport oxygen to our muscles. In addition to lubricating joints, water is essential in eliminating waste. Finally, drinking enough water has been proven to boost your mood!
According to the Institute of Medicine, the adequate intake of water for adult males is 13 cups(3 liters) of fluids per day and 9 cups(2.2 liters) per day for adult females.
Along with 75% of all other Americans, I am most likely dehydrated on a daily basis. Unless I am carrying around a water bottle, I am unlikely to consume the recommended amount on my own accord. Fortunately, I prefer water to soft drinks or other beverage alternatives so I am definitely more hydrated than some of my peers.
Alcohol, excessive amounts of coffee, sugary drinks, foods with high amounts of sodium (popcorn, fried food), foods with high protein content (cured meats), and interestingly, asparagus, all may contribute to dehydration.

@18amasarikova I like how you mentioned a list of foods that can help you keep hydrated!0 -
Water is an extremely important and necessary component for human sustenance. It has many health benefits. Firstly, water is essential in helping to clean your body of possible toxins. Vital organs such as the kidneys and bladder need water to flush out toxins in the form of urine. The more water you drink, the more your body is able to remove possible toxins and avoid sickness. Additionally, hydration reduces high blood pressure. At the optimum hydration level, the blood is comprised of approximately 92% water. This causes the blood to ‘thin’, which means that the blood can travel much more easily through the body (especially vital arteries) and thus high blood pressure is avoided. Water also helps in the process of weight loss because dehydration causes cells to ‘panic’ and send signals to the brain to obtain more energy, usually resulting in unnecessary hunger and thus possible weight gain. More water means that your cells will not send these signals unless one is truly hungry.
To obtain these benefits and more, it is recommended that men drink approximately 3 liters of water per day, while women consume 2.2 liters per day. Though these numbers can vary depending on your level of physical activity, geographical location, and other outside factors, these are good guidelines to follow.
On most days, I drink approximately 1-2 liters of water per day as I bring water bottles with me to school. While I am not necessarily dehydrated, I do not always drink the recommended amount of water, which means that I definitely need to make a concerted effort to drink as much water as possible.
Foods that are very high in sodium can be detrimental and dehydrating, such as cured meats (salami, bacon, etc.), chips, and sodas. Additionally, beverages such as coffee and alcohol are also very dehydrating.

@18amasarikova : I like how you included some foods that boost hydration! It's important to find other ways to hydrate yourself even if you don't consume a lot of water directly.
@17hbaghdadi : I was so surprised at the statistic that 75% of Americans are dehydrated! It looks like the vast majority need to learn more about the importance of water to our body.0 -

Drinking water and staying hydrated as many benefits for one's body. Some examples include combating fatigue, reducing high blood pressure, stoping high cholesterol, flush out toxins and bacteria, and even help break down food. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon. i do drink the recommended amount, but i am very active and sweat a lot, which means i should be drinking more water each day to keep hydrated. Drinking sports drinks with sugar, sodas, alcohol, or very salty drinks often tend to dehydrate the body, and salty foods with high sodium make the body need more water. Cured meats and salty carbs can be detrimental to staying hydrated

Water is an essential part of the human body. The average adult is made up of between 55 and 60% water, and most important organs require a lot of water. Keeping the body hydrated keeps the body energized and moisture in the skin. It also helps to maintain proper blood pressure and cognitive function. Studies have shown that regular consumption of water can help control things like stroke and diabetes to promote longer lives. One should consume between 2-3 litres of water a day, but this will depend on the person's weight, environment and physical activity. However water can also come in other forms such as juices or fruits and foods. I happen to drink a lot of water every day. I know I sweat a lot and so I always carry a water bottle with me wherever I go, and drink a lot after and during physical activity. Whilst the rumors about caffeine being a cause for dehydration do circulate, in moderation caffeine doesn't cause too much bad stuff. However alcohol is a known natural diuretic, and so are other things like proteins and herbal supplements.
@Sara - Is it scientifically proven to "flush out toxins"?
@Ethan - I did not know that it helps decrease high cholesterol?

Humans are almost 70% water. We lose most of that when we sweat while exercising or just sweating in general. When there is less water than there should be we will become tired, dizzy, and might faint. The benefits of keeping your body hydrated are that you will be energized, your skin will be moisturized, and your organs won't fail!
I consume around 3 liters of water every day! I am always hydrated and ready!
To keep your body hydrated you must drink water or other liquids containing H20. You could also eat celery.

There are many benefits to keeping your body hydrated.
[*] Combat Fatigue
[*] Reduce High Blood Pressure
[*] Halt Allergies and Asthma
[*] Reduce Acne, Dermatitis, Psoriasis, and Premature Aging of the Skin
[*] Eliminate Digestive Disorders
[*] Flush Out Unwanted Bacteria from the Bladder and Kidneys
[*] Speed Up Joint and Cartilage Repair
[*] Stop Gaining Unwanted Weight
[*] Slow the Aging Process
During the day everyone should consume on an average of eight 8 ounce glasses of water. This will help you to achieve those benefits of staying hydrated and you are less likely to have a headache at the end of the day because your body doesn't have enough water.
Personally, I do drink more than enough water. I am always carrying around a water bottle with me whether it be in class, at the mall or traveling. I honestly dont like to drink other things but water tea and juice. So I would say I am well hydrated all of the time.
Dehydrating drinks and foods:
[*] Alcohol
[*] Protein
[*] Herbal Supplements
Hydrating foods:
[*] Tea
[*] Coffee
[*] Veggie Juice
[*] Broth
This is because they are mostly water, so if you do not like to drink water then there are other alternatives to staying hydrated throughout the day.

What are the benefits of keeping your body hydrated? How much water should one consume during an average day? Do you drink enough water? What food and beverages might be detrimental to keeping your body hydrated?
There are many benefits of keeping your body hydrated. Since the human body is seven percent water, drinking plenty of fluids is fundamental for brain protection, immune health, muscle function, digestion and even mood. Moreover, it can also help in weight loss, as drinking water instead of sugary drinks will quench your thirst without the excess calories and sugars. Drinking water is also important to keep you skin healthy; by consuming enough, it lessens your risk of developing dry issues like dermatitis, aging skin, and infection. Moreover it helps with muscles efficiency, as H2O aids the transport of oxygen to muscles, making them prepared for exercise. We are supposed to drink 8 ounces of water a day ( 2 liters) because we’re constantly losing water from our bodies, primarily via urine and sweat. I believe I drink enough water, as I am engaged in various sports, which underline even more the importance of drinking water.
Some beverages and foods are present that do not help with staying hydrated. Alcohol, very common among adults, is actually dehydrating. This is because it causes cells to shrink, squeezing out the extra water, causing the need to pee. All those trips to the bathrooms deplete the body's natural water stores. Additionally, people who consume higer-protein diets, don't know that a side effect is that you tend to become more dehydrated. This is because the body uses more water to flush out the naturally-occurring nitrogen in protein, which results in more trips to the bathroom. However, it’s not that high-protein diets are too be avoided, just that the uptake of water should be increasing when eating high protein foods.

Staying hydrated and drinking water is a very important thing for the human body, especially if we are being active. I found a few main things that are a positive side to staying hydrated. Water promotes cardiovascular health. Being dehydrated lowers your blood volume, making it harder to do everything as small as they daily task of walking to school or up the stairs, meaning you should try to keep your body full of fluids. Water also keeps your body cool. Your body releases heat when you do physical activity if you are hydrated. Hydration allows more blood flow and keeps your body cool. Water can help your muscles and joints work better too. Water keeps your joints and muscles full of nutrients and clears out some of the waste in your muscles, making them perform better. Finally, water helps cleanse toxins from our bodies. An example of this is the kidney, which needs water to filter waste from the blood, clearing the toxins from our body.
The recommended amount of water to drink a day is eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day.
I personally think I drink enough water, but could do better when the day is hot or I'm playing lots of sports. It is something very important to the human body.
Lots of fruits and vegetables can keep you hydrated because of the natural fluids that they have in them. Examples of this are foods such as cucumbers grapefruit and lettuce. High protein foods aren't good for your hydration and you should always drink more water with the consumption of them.

Drinking water helps the skin regulates the body's temperature through sweating. Feeding your body with water is important for the nutrients in your body to circulate. It boosts your immune system and avoids many aspects that may be harmful or irritating. The body needs its dose of water due to the fact that its mostly made up of water anyway. The recommended amount we should be drinking is about 8 ounce glasses or 2 liters respectively. I make sure I drink enough water throughout each day in order for my body to maintain the amount of stress it goes through. Many vegetables support your body in the sense that it keeps it hydrated and healthy, in addition, some fruits are also possibilities.

At least 60% of the adult body is made of it and every living cell in the body needs it to keep functioning. Water helps your body maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints. Health authorities recommend eight 8-ounce glasses a day. I usually don't drink enough water. I usually drink four to six 8-ounce glasses a day. Some foods that can dehydrate you are salty foods like popcorn and fried food, sugary drinks, and coffee.
