So I went to the other mall this morning - no parking problems. I saw some really beautiful shoes at Nordstrom. I just couldn't bite the bullet and squish my toes into what seems like even more narrow toes than I recall ever having. And 4 inches - why? Why? Why?

I did see some absolutely beautiful clothes at Talbots. Macy's had some very nice prices. I will stick with the Ralph Lauren shoes - nothing fancy, 2.5 inches and will work well with an interviewing suit.

I had mixed feelings while shopping. I just recently fit into a size 12. There were so many stores I could not shop in. It has been a good 10 years since I was a size 12. I saw a slim fitting white dress at Macy's. I bought a very similar one over 10 years ago at Target. I wore it to the Casino in Tahoe. I felt like a million bucks.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm not sure who I am relevant to clothing. I want to dress age appropriate. Then on the other hand, I desperately want to wear that slim fitting little white dress.

Today a man held the door for me at the post office, he had the warmest smile. I think I want what I used to have - dressy casual - all the time, hair and make up - everyday - I've already started to do my nails again. I don't just want a job, but a man too. I deserve to be happy.

Eileen, you absolutely deserve to be happy and I'm sure you'll look smashing in that white dress...........I would buy it if I were you! Of course we want to dress and act age appropriate but who exactly determines that for us.....I think we do! I'm remaining a blonde until I decide I'm done being a blonde and ready to be grey but it's a ways off for me yet!

The white dress and size 12's are who you are now so enjoy it! Give the men a chance and they'll be there too!

Thank you for your support. I purchased a Color Me a Season book on Amazon Kindle. I used the original book to create a professional wardrobe for my work on Wall Street - sooo many years ago.

The book has since been updated, 2011, and I purchased the fabric swatches as well. I am a Winter, so it is very difficult for me to choose Spring clothing among pastel colors.

With all your support the journey becomes more enjoyable.

That is a good book. Here is another one:
"The Science of Sexy: Dress to fit your unique figure with the style system that works for every shape and size" by Bradley Bayou

The upside of being a male? Fashions don't tend to be quite as fleeting… although some of the newer fashions should go away as quickly as possible. Whoever invented the "man bun" should be drummed out of the tribe.

I couldn't agree more. Pick a gender and go with it.

Hahaha...saw a lot of that while cruising the mall last weekend. But, remember boys....our generation let their hair grow past the collar. The 'rents thought that was pretty sissy too. But it worked for the Beatles!!!

It must be one of those emotional days for me. I got an e-mail from Macy's: "buy 3 suits" blah blah blah. I need suits, as I have mentioned before - I will be re-entering the workforce in a much more demanding role. Well, my size 14s are too loose. I neglected to buy a size 12 and am almost fitting in a size 10.

While I was gaining weight, my suits became boxier and boxier - I was rockin' the Hilary Clinton look. If I ever wanted to look like a First Lady, I would not have chosen that look - political interests aside.

I found some of the most incredible looking suits and they are quite feminine, updated, and absolutely beautiful - from my favorite brands: Tahari, Jones NY, Kasper, and Le Suit. Ok, so really - my absolute favorite is St. John's. But I have never been able to justify $1,200 for a knit jacket. If anyone knows of any solid knock offs, I would be happy to hear about it.

Oh, the emotional part stems from finding a Tahari suit at Macy's that I donated over 15 years ago - it is sooo beautiful and it is on sale. The other part of the emotion is, I dare say I like the new and improved version of me that will be returning to work.

OMG! That Tahari suit was 25 years old. This is one style I am glad they brought back.

I looked at the Tahari suits on Macy's web site. They are beautiful. :)
At my work place/in my field, most women are less formal -- so I am not familiar with what the business world wears.

    @RodaRose

The suits I saw at Macy's weren't all that fabulous. I did see a beautiful jacket but it wasn't lined - I didn't get it. I did find one Kasper suit and a pair of dress slacks. Moreover, I found some really beautiful tops. My biggest surprise is that I am now a size 10 - completely bypassing a size 12!

I don't usually buy clothing online, but I just might get up the courage to buy that one suit. The buttons on the Kasper jacket detract from the suit so I am going to replace them. I used to do that a lot - particularly with sweaters - something so small can make a huge difference.

Congrats on the size ten! :)
I agree about buttons. A friend who inherited a trunk of quality buttons used to
help me change my buttons whenever I bought a top or dress.
I hope the Kasper jacket works for you.

Thanks RodaRose! Will need unmentionables soon. Someone on this thread explained that as we age, gravity takes over and the shape changes. I am just not sure how much I want to spend. I'm kind of waiting until I absolutely have to buy something new, but I am definitely a smaller cup size.

I am seeing clothes in a whole new way. I spent so much time trying to hide flaws. Now I try to find form fitting clothing - even though I'm still a bit fatty.

In the past, I didn't have jeans or much of a casual attire wardrobe. I dressed in dressy casual most of the time. Sometimes I feel totally lost and other times I feel right at home.

Thank again! I ordered it the same day. Looks like it is exactly what I need to create balance while dressing in layers.

I learned from taking measurements as the book describes that my shoulders are narrow -- thus explaining
why, no matter my size, I was wearing tops with droopy looking shoulders.
Before that I could not figure out how to keep from looking sloppy unless I stumbled upon something nice by accident.
Now I know to wear brightly colored and / or horizontal striped tops.
