Initial weight loss on keto

So far I'm losing maybe a pound a day, and it's been a few days that I've been able to stick to this WOE really well.

How long did this rapid, initial weight last for you? Like a week? And how much did you lose during this initial period? Like five pounds?

Thanks in advance for sharing.

Bonus question: Is this water weight? So if I go off of keto for a while, would I gain this back? Let's say it was Thanksgiving dinner and I just said..."I'll eat everything." So I'd gain a ton of water weight and then lose it when I went back on keto?

@blacktie347 The rapid initial weight loss lasted about ten days for me. It slowed down a bit - about two pounds per week - and then pretty much stopped about ten to twelve weeks in.

In the beginning, it is water weight. As your body is getting rid of the carbs, it is taking the water weight with it. Not all of it is water though, but a big part of it is. Once you have been low carb for a while, the loss generally slows down because it is a bigger part of fat loss.

You could go off keto, eat carbs, gain the water weight back - and lose it, surely. But it may not be as rapid as the initial water weight loss. That has been my experience with being off plan for even a day or two. I would gain two or three pounds and it would take me a few weeks to get it off, rather than the initial pound a day loss rate. You may have a different experience.

I also wasn't very overweight when I started so the whole 'less to lose, the slower it goes' thing applies to me.

I lost inches but not even one pound for the first six weeks so we are not all the same it seems. A month in I pigged out on pasta and gained six pounds like overnight. It worked off at about a pound a day for six days. I do not carb load any more. :)

I lost 14 pounds the first week. I lost a total of 50 in 5 months, then another 30 over about the next 10 months. Now with 30 to go, it has slowed down to a crawl.

I lost about 5 kilo in the first two weeks, just had a weekend away with friends and ate carbs the whole 4 days, I have just weighed myself and have gained the whole lot back again. I think it will take me another 2 weeks to lose it again. If I have a carb binge I can put on 2-3 kilos overnight.

I lost the initial water weight and was about 6 lbs in two weeks. Then it went it about 1 lb/week the next month. Now it's more like .5 lb/week (we'll see, I might be stalled). But I am a smaller female to begin with.

I gained 3 pounds and didn't lose any weight until day 44. Now I'm losing about 2 pounds a week I'm on day 74+. I really didn't lose water weight. I was on a low calorie diet before this and I had lost most of the water weight on that.

I envy people who can lose weight on this diet right away. I think my problem was trying to find the right amount of carbs to eat to lose. I found that unless I eat at 30 or less carbs, I don't lose weight.

I lost about a lb a day the first 2 weeks, then it started to slow. 1-2 lb per week and now about 0.5 lb per week. I am about 8 weeks in and I had a 2 week break midway through.
