Egg fast- yay or nay?

Ok, so I went to the Doc yesterday and found that I am only 7 pounds away from my goal weight. (Thanks to LCHF WOE ) So, what do I do? Have a couple celebratory drinks. 2 glasses of wine later I am eating a hot dog...with a bun (gasp) and a half a pack of sugar cookies (double gasp). I have had carb creep for a couple weeks and I'm thinking about an egg fast to reset and get back into ketosis. Anyone else tried it? If so, for how long? TIA for your insight!

@kirkor Thanks...I wondered if there was any benefit to it, or if it was just a way of making sure you are eating low carb by eliminating any guess work!0

Egg fasts are successful because of the simplicity. However, once you go back to a regular LCHF way of eating, you are most likely going to gain weight.
It is kind of like the cabbage soup diet of Keto, in my opinion.
Limited food options, short term, quick weight loss, but no long term staying power.1 -
@samanthaluangphixay thanks! I'm looking to just get back into ketosis, not necessarily for fast weight loss (although that would be nice, I don't want lose it just to gain it again!) Sounds like I need to just start logging everything again and keeping the carbs as low as possible!2

@SarahKat81 I totally understand how you feel. I just came back from a trip in which I ate whatever I wanted. All the carbs!!
I have been back on track for two days now and while I'm not sure if I am back in ketosis right now, I have kept my carbs low at under 25g net and I know the process works.
Keep logging and keeping the carbs low...you'll get there!2 -
I did one for 3 days once. I found it completely pleasant. I don't need a lot of variety so I didn't follow any online plans. I just ate eggs, cheese, butter and drank coffee, tea and water. Kept it really simple. I also still used coconut oil in my coffee.
I think it's a great way to "reset" so to speak. It's easy, effective and you can do it as long as you feel you need to.5 -
I liked it because it was fun coming up with egg recipes, gave me a focus, and didn't feel overly restrictive. The fun and the focus helped me to get back on track after a bit of a carb bender. And I discovered egg pancakes, which are absolutely fabulous.2

I've never done an egg fast. I don't think that it's going to get you back into ketosis any faster than eating normally. I also doubt it will do anything massively beneficial in the long-run. Might give you a mental victory though. I have run the numbers (nutrient-wise) on egg fasts before, and found that it's not as horrible as it seems. That's especially true if you're eating like 12 eggs and 12 tablespoons worth of butter each day. Not sure that most people would be aiming for that much.

Are eggs in any way bad for you ? can you eat too many.
I have my own hens & ducks, so I easily eat 4-6 a day today I had 4 for breakfast with salmon then 2 boiled eggs whilst out on my bike ride (100 miles)

Nope. Eat as many as appeal to you.

Assuming that's all he ate:
Calories: 1950
Protein: 150g
Carbs: 15g
Fat: 125g
So very ketogenic. Didn't seem to help with his Alz, though.1 -
If I recall correctly, it was all he ate. But, it's been a while since I read the study.
Edit: Seems that I remember incorrectly http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pathphys/digestion/liver/eateggs.html says it was in addition to regular meals.1 -

This. I've done it twice for two days and both times it seemed to help me break out of a plateau. I kept it simple.1 -

I don't often feel envy, but wow, I felt envious when I read this. I don't tolerate coffee or cheese, but eggs, cheese, butter and coffee- oh seriously yum for a day or two of indulgence.1 -

I did it how @Sunny_Bunny_ did, for 5 days. I enjoyed it, and was getting rid of a surplus of eggs. It helped me gain more control over my macros, but it certainly wasn't a magic trick. I gained back all but 1lb of what I lost, then lost it via old school ketosis if it gives you more self control, I encourage it.0

So egg fast is that for every egg that you eat, you need to eat 1 TB of fat, butter or mayo. I am not sure what the calculated ratio would be between fat and protein. You are allowed to eat small amounts of cheese. So it is very low carb. I think you can get the same benefits if you just went very low carb to zero carb, making sure you get enough fat (again I don't know what the ratio would be). People who have transition successfully from egg fast to LCHF, are the ones where they add back the carb very slowly, basically the first few days you are eating almost zero carb.
I tried egg fast a few months ago, but had to stop because of a gallbladder flair up. I am part of an egg fast group on FB. Lots of stories of successes, but of course there is always a handful where the egg fast did not seem to work for them.0
