I just cut up a yellow pepper into strips to snack on and I just saw that it was 12 gm carbs.....YIKES!!!
They look so pretty and tasty. I guess I wont be snacking on them any longer. I really should of looked it up before I ate it. Lesson learned.

I know what you mean...some of my favorite veggies surprise me in their carb grams! What veggies do you add to a stir fry?

That shock happened to me when I threw Enoki Mushrooms into my meal and then read the package. 5g of carbs per half of package. So it was 10g right there.

I used to have them as a noodle sub even before LC.

make sure to weigh out by grams, the estimates for one pepper don't always apply to an actual pepper size or amount eaten. seems like even if it was 12g though it'd be a perfectly good substitution for any higher carb option especially if its spread out over a day. though if your looking for something with a crisp crunch, celery is a good option too, for dips and such

It's eye opening to see the macros of the foods we eat! Something you would consider to be good for you (even though it is) can have a lot of carbs!

I learned to pre log new foods too, for this very reason!

    Hang in there!

I've weighed my green and red peppers, and I eat an entire one with my lunch most days. The red was a little too sweet tasting for me, and I think yellow is in the middle between green and red for sweetness. My greens are about 7 grams of carbs, net 5, for a 5 oz pepper after trimmed. Red was 8 net 5 for about 1 oz less, I think. The reds I could really taste at almost dessert level sweet, so much so that I asked my coworker if he'd ever thought about blending one into this strawberry shake thing. LOL You can imagine the look I got from his LFHC self. LOL

I almost died when I first saw the carbs. because peppers are my favorite. I love all colors red, orange, purple, yellow. small, big, hot or sweet. I have even plant six plants in my garden. I have learn to fit them in every day. Along with tomatos and sweet onions. It's so funny the thing you never thought would have carbs.

I love peppers too and was also shocked the first time I logged them. I still eat them, love their taste too much not to. lol I just make them fit. When I first started this WOE, I thought I'd stay under 20 total carbs. Nope not gonna happen, I LOVE veggies way too much. I stay under 30 total now and it seems to work.

Zucchini surprised me. I sautéed up a 12 ounce serving. Ate it all up and noticed my carbs were through the roof.

    Nearly 40 grams!
And squash was always one of my favorite vegetables.

I see people using zucchini instead of pasta, but now I question that idea too.

    Thanks. But I am baffled.

I entered a 12oz sauteed zucchini into MFP and got:
    73 cal.
    12.1 gr protein
    0.0 fat
    36.4 gr carbs
    0.0 fiber
    24.3 gr. Sugar

Just wondering where you got your numbers

Guess I must have picked the wrong choice from the list when I searched for zucchini. Now I see that the values vary widely.
This makes it difficult to accurately track foods USING MFP..... :/
Always pick the lower choice, higher, or try to average?
I had been picking the first choice in the list that fit my description.
    Sigh....

@Midnightgypsy0 I try to always look for the USDA listing. Or I'll verify using USDA's website or fatsecret.com.

Go to the usda info site, enter it manually by gram, always use that entry. There are tons of bad entries in mfp.

Generally, one medium zucchini has 33 calories, 6grams of carbs, and 2 grams of fiber. Not bad.
Bell peppers have much less fiber, if that matters.

It helps to remember that peppers (and zucchini or other squashes, eggplant, tomatoes, and cucumber) are actually fruit, lol. Look at the net carbs, because they do have a bit of fiber. I love peppers and can work them in regularly, but I don't do keto (I average 50 g per day, so lots of wiggle room).
