Reset?

Do I have to? Or can I just start eating 1800 calories and being active and waiting patiently (not expecting to start losing for twelve weeks) when I was dieting (and binging) I'd eat around 1600 calories a day

    The need for a metabolism reset will depend on how long you were dieting for and how much you were eating. If you were eating close to or above your TDEE, you cut start with a cut and have great results. But if you were eating way below, you won't experience the same results cutting right away.

    What is your TDEE and BMR? How about activity level?

    I did not do a reset when I started my journey just because I was never on a very low calorie diet for more than a month or two. Actually I found out about EM2WL because I wanted to be the thinnest I could be by eating as much as I could and stay there, lol. Being "hangry" all the time is not worth it for me.

    Curious if that high TDEE is result of active job and family life selection, perhaps with some workouts weekly?
    Or a ton of workouts weekly?
    Or perhaps a combo of those two?

    If lots of workouts - what kind of workouts?

    Merely ask because some have idea workouts is the reason for weight loss, when it's really just eating less than you burn by reasonable amount for fat loss.

    Yes, it really depends on the background you are coming from. I see you said you dieted for 3-4 months, but have you done other diets before that? The longer your history of cutting calories/losing weight/gaining back, the more likely you and your metabolism would benefit from a full reset. It is entirely up to you. I dabbled with TDEE for many months before fully committing ( can I really eat that much? :) ) and I could of cut out a lot of time by just trusting the process.

    It was from active job and active home life, I barely if ever actually exercise

    Just to confirm then since you used the spreadsheet - you only checked 1 box in the activity section, right?

    That makes it easy to take a deficit usually, being that active. Can also make it interesting to eat enough if not careful with the clock and time and amount needed to eat.

    It's day 36 of my reset and it's going very well. I used to want to weigh myself every morning and now I don't even think about it anymore. I weighed myself yesterday just to make sure I was still maintaining and I am (196). July 17th will be my eight week mark but I most likely will continue until my twelve week mark in August. I'm not in much of a hurry to stop the reset but I know if I don't make a deadline for myself, I won't start my cut lol

    Also I've been eating 2600 calories for maintenance after using some other calculators and playing with my caloric intake

    @SlimSage Great update! So good that you have the right mindset to not rush things either. Patience is definitely a plus in this lifestyle. Keep going, you're doing great. :)

    I did that my first time too.. I thought I reset at my correct TDEE, but it wasnt even close.. so I hit that for 8 weeks then tried a cut and nothing happened.. It took a long while to force myself to believe my TDEE was actually higher and go up.. and Now ive been at TDEE for 12 weeks... my trainer has not yet given me the ok to cut:)

    Im glad you recognized you rushed it.. its very common and many people think they only need to stay at tdee for a short time. But the longer you can stay at TDEE, the way more successful you will become when it is time to cut
