New to LCHF

I am new to LCHF diet. I am not realling following a particular diet ie Atkins, paleo etc I am just eating low carb and using MFP to track carbs.
I was wondering what results people have seen from LCHF? Any tips?
I am looking to lose around 30-40lbs and I have PCOS so figured this would be a good diet for me. I have been a yoyo dieter for MANY, MANY years! I just want something that I can stick at. I think where I have fell down in the past is that I have been eating too few calories then becoming so hungry that I just pig out. I heard that HF diet is good at controlling hunger.
Are there also any fellow PCOS?

I don't know how to link to a thread but there is a threat and a group for pcos support but the group has not had many posts. Fellow pcoser here too. Feel free to add me.1

Yes, there are several of us here with PCOS. This is the more active PCOS group I'm in: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3070-p-c-o-sis
There are success and achievements posts (NSV's, Tell Your Success, etc.) all listed in the LaunchPad Sticky post here.
That being said, my personal favorite highlights are:
Lost inches
Mental Clarity
Actual Energy
Hormonal Leveling Off
More Control of my Insulin Resistance1 -
Thank you for your replies . I will add you both if ok.1

Sounds good to me!0

I'm another with PCOS - this does seem to be the WOE that suits it best. Once you get in a good groove you'll love it - it's a little tough at first to adjust (like any other eating plan), but once you hit your stride it's easy and you'll love it. That's how it is for me anyway Good luck, it's a great bunch of helpful people in here!1

I also have PCOS and newly diagnosed as a diabetic. Since the end of September 2015, I've lost a little over 70 lbs. My tip is to listen to your body; what works for others may not work for you. You can do this! Best of luck!3

Never diagnosed with PCOS but I have been LCHF for over 14 months! I have lost almost 60 pounds during that time (my weight loss ticker shows my total, from before LCHF too!). It's been life changing for me! Read the Launch Pad, and the part on electrolytes! Learn all you can so you know how to make this woe work for you!
Sticking with it is super rewarding! Great to have you here!1 -

I joined this forum about 2 months ago to learn about keto as it pertains to health issues other than weight loss since I had already accomplished that part of my plan. As per the bolded part above, at least for me, LCHF controlling hunger has been a HUGE benefit. I have maintained my weight loss for 2 years but pre-LCHF... it was not a fun way to live. I was ALWAYS hungry and forever feeling tempted to overeat and often doing so. It was a horrible merry-go-round of over indulge then restrict. And I was forever thinking about food and planning my next meal. Not so with keto. Gosh, it is so freeing!
In regards to tips: read, read, read from this forum. Very helpful, supportive, knowledgeable folks here.

Welcome. I second this forum. It is very active and tons of information from knowledgeable people who are at different levels to weight loss and/or good health. This is one diet that I can stick to for a lifetime because I can eat all the foods I love and as much as I want (within reason of course). I am never Hangry! All the dessert, pizza, bread etc... that you should not be eating there are always some healthy LCHF alternative.
I have received many health benefits such as healthier skin, no gas/bloat, more energy as well as weight loss. I am in a little weight stall right now. But I am feeling good and slim so I am not sweating it. Definitely the people in this forum helps me to see everything in perspective.
Please feel free to add me. Good luck to you!1 -
Welcome to the forum! I've been steady on LC for about a year. Going through a slow patch right now, but sticking to it.
A few recommendations I have:
1. Read - I noticed that you mentioned that you aren't following any certain plan. That's OK, but I would recommend reading the books for different plans to help you understand the "why" behind this WOE (way of eating) works. Once you grasp that, it's easier to stay on plan.
2. Plan - Make shopping lists. Buy what's on them and nothing else. Especially when starting out. It is easy to get side-tracked and off-track while shopping and buying things that look good.
3. Clean out your cupboard at home - If possible, purge the junk food in your house. It isn't possible for everyone as they have other family members, but those that are able to keep a clean pantry and cupboard are much more likely to have good success.
4. Stick to it - This is a long term commitment, not a quick fix. Don't get frustrated or discouraged when you stop losing weight a couple weeks in. It will happen. Just stay consistent and let your body re-configure itself. It takes time.
5. Be honest - When tracking in MPF, be honest with your amounts that you ate. Don't short cut it or omit something to make your macros work for the day. Impressing others with a good diary doesn't do you any good.
6. Take Before Pictures - One of my (and many others) biggest regrets is no before picture. I hated pictures of myself before so there are very few. After losing 50 pounds, I was looking for a good comparison picture and I don't have much. Just take a few in the bathroom or somewhere at home. You don't need to post them now, or ever, but you should have something to yourself to compare to. So many people are encouraged by their progress in pictures.
7. Measure, don't just weigh - The scale lies. Many people here can affirm that. Your body changes when it wants to. It hangs on to weight and drops when it wants to. Some people will go weeks (or more) without the weight changing on the scale, but yet their body is totally changing and they lose inches everywhere. It's not considered a "stall" unless you go 3+ weeks with no weight change AND no measurement changes. If that happens, it's time to revisit your macros and food intake. Until that time, just stick with it and keep plugging away.
8. Get involved - Those people that get socially involved are far more likely to be successful. If you don't have a friend or two, it makes it really tough to stick with it on your own. Use the community here. Post in your diary. Post daily updates or notes. Make friends. Post on their timelines. Send PMs. It all helps keep you on track.
Good luck and I hope this WOE is the key for you. I know it has been for myself. You (or anyone) can feel free to add me as a friend and I'll do my best to encourage you.3 -
