Libido

Hey everyone, this is my first post in this forum. I am nervous about posting, so please bear with me.
I am 8 months post op, and before surgery I had a healthy sex drive. Now, and for probably the last 3 months it is basically non-existent. I know most people have a surge after surgery and I had hoped mine would as well. But that has just not been my experience. Anyone else? I am just looking for some support here, maybe a little advice. Thanks for reading!

Personally I didn't have a decrease in libido at all. The healthier I got, the healthier my drive got. Hormone levels change drastically when you lose a lot of weight, so that could be affecting your drive. I am not sure of your age, but if you are at the age where you are pre-menopausal, that could have something to do with it as well. Might be worth a trip to your gyno, but also know that your body might just need some time to adjust.

I am 2 yrs out from surgery. Right after my surgery I had an extreme decrease in libido and had ABSOLUTELY no desire whatsoever to be touched.. My poor husband.. lol.. After I lost a significant amount of weight I started to feel better about myself and I even started initiating intimacy, which I NEVER did before. Now, I am the one with the healthy drive :). I think my body just needed some time to adjust.

At 8 months post op, I'd suggest you seek the advice of a metabolic specialist. Between the normal changes our bodies go through as we age, the changes that occur as a result of a bypass are extraordinary. You might need some tweaking to get things where they belong. I had been getting a hormone pellet before my surgery, but I've waited for the next one until I'm about six months out - just so much changes.

Hey there Trishka...first off...yeah I know...a guy answering this question... :# At about 8 mos I had a big drop off with my libido. It has taken a couple of months to finally start feeling 'normal.' I spoke with my nutritionist and she said to give it a year. Our bodies are going through this amazing transformation of getting rid of toxins that have been stored in our fat, along with all the other changes that can take place with these surgeries. Don't be afraid of asking your Nut or surgeon about your concerns and see what they say.
