My weight seems to be going in the wrong direction right now. I have eaten out several times over the past few days, and I had two glasses of wine with dinner last night. Don't get me wrong, it's been healthy food, for the most part, but I ate too much of it.

I hope you are all having a great Sunday and Happy Father's Day to all the Father's from the U.S. today. It looks like I stayed the same this week which is ok with me. Staying the same is not a gain!

WOW! You must be working so hard to make such an awesome amount of progress! You are only four pounds away from your Challenge Goal! Almost there! I like how you chose a specific end goal for yourself, so I copied you. Phenomenal job!

Great job! Maintaining is no easy task. Sometimes I feel like our bodies just need to maintain to adjust to our changing weight. I hate to admit it, but sometimes I even feel physically better after I've hit a plateau for a few weeks. Have a great week!

Well, it's taken me two years to lose 50 lbs. I've NEVER lost weight this slowly before. The last time I lost a substantial amount, though, was over 10 years ago and more mobile. So no for health reasons I'm not as active and I'm older. That sucks. lol My dietitian keeps telling me that it doesn't matter how long it takes. I would agree if it wasn't for needing knee replacements. I've actually needed them for 15 years. They are pretty bad now.

My point is, I know that you can do this if you don't have any other health problems in your way. Heck, you'll do it even if you do have health problems. We all will. We all have to for ourselves first and then the ones who love us.

Actually, I'm still less than 2 months into my present journey, so I'm in the easy phase yet. I haven't even started doing any exercise beyond working, but I'm trying to maintain a calorie deficit that is probably not strictly MFP approved. I set my calorie target to 500 less than maintenance for my ultimate goal weight (220) - with my activity level deliberate underestimated. In other words, if I don't increase my calories once I hit 220, I should still be burning more than a pound per week. At my current weight, the deficit has been producing an average loss greater than 2 pounds per week, but 2200 calories is still plenty to get in adequate nutrition, and I'm not exceeding my body's ability to burn fat stores. (according to one calculation I saw, my body should be capable of burning up to 6 pounds per week of my own fat without robbing energy from other tissues and organs. I physically could not force myself to eat that little, but that's what the 'usable calories of fat per pound of lean mass' says is theoretically possible.)
Hunger has been mostly mild to 'no problem' because I'm eating low-carb for my blood sugar, but there have definitely been some missteps. Biggest problem is if I get too far over my carb goals, I end up hungrier later and craving bready/sweet stuff.

Guy's lose faster because we're bigger. More muscle mass equals higher daily calorie need, which makes it easier to hold a deficit because we've got more room in our calorie targets.

On that note, I saw a formula last night that claims to predict one's "optimal muscularity". That is, its creator says the formula will tell you what you would weigh at 5% body fat (it was on a body building site) and the most muscle you can put on without using steroids. According to his formula, I would weigh 188. I don't think I buy his calculation. At 5% body fat, 188 pounds would mean I had 178.6 pounds of lean mass. At my current weight and body fat, I have 173.4 pounds of lean mass. I sincerely doubt I'm only 5 pounds from my max muscle potential.
At 220 pounds, I'm hoping to also be able to achieve 15% body fat, which would give me a lean mass of 185. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think 12 pounds more muscle is doable for me.

Week one was actually the starting weigh in, so week six is at the beginning of the week. In other words, final weigh in for the 6 week challenge will actually be number 7.

Woohoo! Finally consistently stayed under 155 and hit the 140s after five months!

I started running again to get that extra calorie burn and I've been using a Fitbit to track my daily calorie burn and sync it to MFP. Getting that Fitbit was a serious game changer for me.

I listen to true crime podcasts while I run so I don't get crazy bored.

My goal for this challenge was to get as close to 145 lbs as I could by losing at least a half pound per week.
