Nifty new features = better participation?

OK, so I'm curious. There was lots of lamenting over there about how the GOAD board has lagged the last few years. Those of us that were hanging on were pretty tenacious but let's face it, participation was far from robust. When WW threatened to take our place away, some were 'vocal' about being upset with their decision.

GOAD really helped me set by compass for my weight loss and has been a huge resource for me to this point. I really hope participation here is not just a flash in the pan, but that maybe there's something about this 'fresh start' that will also help jumpstart, and sustain participation. In my opinion, it's that diverse participation that really makes it valuable!

I'm pretty happy about the GoaD migration over to MFP. I switched over here a couple of years ago and it'd be great to have MFP people find the GoaD board to absorb some of that classic GoaD wisdom. I haven't found a community group quite like the GoaD board here, so hopefully this place starts bouncin!

Hopefully, this old man will get the hang of this type forum. So far, not so much.
Are we going to try for daily threads, like LTL?
Some of us have GoaD on FB, and are planning on doing just that. We'll see.

Al, you've already got the hang of it. You're doing fine!

I would vote to keep some of our daily threads... as long as people participate...

Change is hard, just like losing weight is hard. Our WW ML said something today about how we all hate change but we all came to WW to CHANGE! We wanted to change our weight, sizes, health, lifestyle, and reap the benefits of making Big Changes in our personal daily lives.

I fear we may be scattered to the wind a bit. But as long as some of us find a home to hang out and continue this part of our journey together, I am fine. I don't know how long I can do the multiple GoaD forum thing though.

Well, imagine my surprise to see that WW changed things while I have been away (and that's not a good thing) Glad I found out where you guys are hanging out.

I don't think it will be a problem for long. WW *says* the message boards will go away in "early August". But, based on previous actions, that could be August 1st or it could be next June. :)

I've been back on WW for about two months and was surprised to see how inactive GoaD has become from a few years ago. MFP will hopefully be like the former GoaD. I'm going to try to do both until the end.

My biggest concern is advertising. GOAD went into the crapper when they essentially took away the ability to get there. From that point, participation dwindled and it was in a death spiral.

I don't see any new people coming to this board. There are currently 1466 PAGES of groups on MFP. How will we ever get a new member here?

This is the same challenge to all the new home options. Searching is difficult. You can search google, but not mfp for the board. It is a problem.

Is there a way to work with site admins to 'advertise' or highlight this newly-created GOAD board just on the MPF site? That in itself might be a way to attract many new people here.

It is indeed good to participate here and while it may have been a little difficult to navigate to here I did find it. I look forward to continuing on with my weight loss journey and maybe who knows it may be different but encouraging support no matter where it comes from is always a good thing. So glad to participate.

Actually I just found that you CAN search for GOAD within the Group Options and find it.

You can search for "GOAD" and find it, but what about people who don't know about this group and just search "weight loss"? I tried it in the group search and we did not make the first 10 pages. I didn't look at all 100.

Perhaps we should change the title to GoaD (Guys on a Diet)?

If it helps, I saw your post on the message boards introduction and you sounded like an awesome group so you've got one new person at least :) You can always throw out a welcoming post on the message boards if you need more newbies

Will this be a Weight Watchers forum type group. Or will we talk about multiple diet plans.

This is not specifically a WW board. That said you may find yourself asked to defend an approach that doesn't make sense. Either on a thermodynamic (calories) basis or on a general health basis.
