Ladies.... PMS

OMG I have the worst PMS I can remember in years. I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I've got all of that self-degrading inner monologue going that I get during TOM. Headache - not a migraine... yet. I ovulated REALLY early this month. Just a wonky cycle. This is my 2nd cycle LCHF (1st cycle was fine).

Blame WOE or just coincidence? What's your experience?

I think it might be just a coincidence. Especially if it didn't happen the first time, which is usually when *kitten* hits the fan for your cycle.

I don't usually get bad PMS, even pre-LC. My cycle went wonky for a few months (unpredictable, heavy flow, two periods in one month) until it levelled out and that was on hormonal birth control as well. It took me about four to five months to get back to normal.

Are you keto? Keto does tend to disrupt the cycle of women who had what's considered "healthy" ones, due to hormonal changes (pre-existing dysmenorrhea/amenorrhea tend to correct with keto). It should balance out in a couple of months as the body adjusts, though you might have a new "normal." Extra magnesium can help in the meantime.

Thanks for chiming in! Good advice!

Samantha - You are probably right - probably just coincidence.
Dragonwolf - I just added magnesium this week. I keep reading about its importance. I've only had 3 doses - I'm sure it takes a while to have an impact.

I am keto by accident. LOL! I really didn't plan on going full keto which I understood was <20 carbs per day for most people. I knew it wasn't sustainable FOR ME to go that low - I love fruits and veggies and nuts too much. I'm more like ~50 total carbs per day but according to ketostix and I am in Ketosis. I definitely have the stronger smelling urine (thankfully not breath) and reduced appetite.

I'm going to go curl up with my dong, watch some movies, and eat some LC chocolate ice cream. LOL!!!

@Tara4boys Try upping your fat intake. That may help with cravings, if you get any.

Don't be afraid to overeat on LC foods if you find yourself hungry. Better than reaching for cookies or a bag of chips.

Weird! I just went through that earlier this week....horrid migraine that was much worse than normal, cramps like I've not had since I was a kid and horrible back pain which I never have! Very weird month for me...

Now I've had much milder Pms and period since switching to low carb. The headaches/migraine I had I chalk up to getting off the sugar. Good luck!

Well this is new! I'm almost at lady time as well, and I know I ate over my calories today (probably slightly over maintenance if I'm calculating in my head), but I actually CRAVED LC food.

Which is so weird because I crave a mound of sweet sugary stuff usually. I guess eating a bag of pork rind chips and 2 fat bombs is better than potato chips. Lol

Keto does make my cycles a little off but they had episodes of being weird on and off in the past. The first month I had two cycles two weeks apart. Then I had two normal cycles and then another double. For over a year before hand I'd been 28 days exactly so I do think it is keto that disrupts it. Also now sometimes my cycles are 28 days and others 21 days. I am 38 so that could play into it as well. I've read in the decade or so leading to menopause things can get weird. Also some months I have no PMS, no cramps, nothing. Others I get cramps but not until day 3 which I find so strange. The good news is I get hungrier but I don't crave carbs. Mainly bunless cheeseburgers. :)

I'm 42 so I'm perimenopausal, so my special lady time is really just goofy anyway...but it seems like its getting BETTER. This is my second one since starting keto, and it's more like it used to be, instead of ten days of spotting. If TMI, my bad. It's hormonal adjusting, I believe.

I had screwy hormones coming into keto as I had stopped hormonal birth control after 13 years on it (about 8 months before keto). My cycles were irregular and shark week was a nightmare. These last two cycles that I've been on keto have been great though! Hopefully yours start to get better!

Man perimenopause has me all kinds of messed up. I don't have a clue when "special lady time" is coming, how long it will last, what supplies I should have....it's a different animal every single time! Once it didn't show up for two months, which was great, although I kept having nightmares I was pregnant and that wasn't great...

Hahah, that was me the first year.... panic about a pregnancy at 51, lol. Thank goodness it wasn't/isn't but I rejoice in the quarterly periods now and am looking forward to NONE!!!! I get a reminder clue when I "EAT ALL THE (pepperoni, old cheese) THINGS!!!"
